One thing I like about Instant Copy is that the copied movie can now be recognized by all major brand DVD players out there. In the past just using DVD Decrypter, IFO Edit and Nero, the copied movie can only be played by certain brands of DVD players.

From what I was told any DVD player made after year 2000 can recognize DVD-R disc's.

I took a sample IC copy of a movie to a DVD player retail store and popped the movie in the players themselves and.....viola !! the digital counters started counting on all the name brands. It works.

DVD X Copy puts that warning sign at the start of the copied movie. I hated that. Then again DVD X Copy would tell you to use 2 DVD-R's if the moive size exceeds 4.4 Gigs.

Instant Copy is definitely the best.

I must say, after trying DVD X-Copy, Pinnacle InstantCopy and DVD2One, DVD2One has the absolutely undisputable best image quality.

I have compared many movies and DVD2One comes out leagues ahead of the competition.

I am very very picky when it comes to picture quality which is why for a long time I opted to split movies over 2 discs manually with IFOEdit and then with DVD X-Copy. If this is what you want to do, then DVD X-Copy is the right choice.

But then I tried DVD2One and found that the picture quality is diminished to the point where it is hardly indistinguishable from the original using Movie Only method. And now, I tried using the FULL DISK method and I must say that I am quite impressed, both with picture quality and speed.

Then I tried InstantCopy and the first turn-off was its slow speed, but I said, hey, if it gives me even better quality than DVD2One, then lets do it.

After overnighting it, I woke to burn and try my first InstantCopy movie, and what a total mess. Blocky pictures, awful halos, sticky frames... the whole nine yards... looks like a total bootleg.

So, when all is said and done, if you are looking for a DVD9 to DVD5 solution without compromising much of any quality, DVD2One is the proggy for you.

First of all I don't intend to copy the entire movie which may also include trailers.

I use DVD Decrypt to extract, then use IFO Edit to cut out all other stuff that I don't need to bring the size of the movie further down.

It takes less time to compress a movie that is 5 Gigs than an entire complete movie ( with trailers ) of 8 Gigs.

If the movie is within 5 Gigs or less, then picture quality I noticed is much better. Saving Pvt Ryan was 7 Gigs alone with just the movie itself and I noticed a slight degrading of picture quality. So the less size the better.

The patch works great, after I installed the patch the program makes the correct size. I use DVD decrypter because it does not ask for you to play the CD to unlock the drive. I purchased a 16X DVD ROM because my DVD200e is only 8X I think but the rip speeds are only 0.5X faster (DOH!) Oh well at least my new DVD ROM reads the +R and +RW disks, my lap top wont even do that.

Will PIC copy from DVD-RAM. The pinnacle site says that it will write to RAM discs. I have a Panasonic LF-D321 that does DVD-RAM/-R, but not DVD-RW.

Hi ALL,
I need some help.
I am trying to copy dvd-9 to dvd-5.
The compression IC did, it is not that great.
So I tried dvdshrink. Dvdshrink allows me to
cut any frame that I want (unlike IC). But the disadvantage is you lose the "MENU".

So is there any way that I can keep the menu; But can take out a portion os VOB file (one song may be) and then copy it to DVD-5.

Here is what I intend to do.
1> objective: Copy a DVD-9-->7.3 GB
To make size smaller:
2> take out few frames here and there to make it smaller (like dvdshrink can).
3> Keep the menus.

I 'll appreciate if you discuss the issue.
Thanks,
x7x

Here is a web page where you can download a 15 day trial of Instant Copy as well as patches, tweaks and related stuff. Also Buy.com and Amazon.com are selling Instant Copy for $20.00 after rebate.

I'm a new user of PIC and DVD Decripter (latest updates of both), so I may be running into something simple.

Both great programs, and relatively simple to use after reading the helps/hints here. I was able to back up several of my encrypted DVDs, but hit a snag when trying to copy LOR-Fellowship of the Ring.

Decripter managed the decryption okay, or at least it presented all of the files.

I open PIC and choose the video_ts file. The operation starts and appears to progress normally, except that there is no "time remaining" info. After a few minutes the program stops and I get a "Program Error" message
Quote:
MultiCopy has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.
I've tried to get the program to work several times. A *.pdi file is created in the destination folder and is consistently the same, relatively small, size, so the program is stopping at the same place each time. If I leave the computer unattended, I return and the PIC program has shut itself down, with just my desktop visable (no error messages).

Granted, the Lord of Rings is a large DVD, about 7.31 GB after decryption, but I have successfully copied The Matrix which is also large.

One other potential clue. If I access PIC's "Customize Disc"screen, it shows the data size as 4.31 GB (normal) but there is only one track (Title 1) under Video Tracks.

Any suggestions on what to try?

Thanks.

May 9 edit:

Thanks to advice here, I used DVD Shrink and got LOR into a manageable size, then used Nero to burn. Actually, guess with DVDDecripter, Shrink, and Nero, I don't need PIC at all.

One more thing about DVD Decrypt...
How do you get rid of skipping when changing from one title to the next...

With DVD Decrypter (Version 3.1.6.0), I copied a DVD to my hard drive. I used File mode and it created 7 files in the destination folder: video_ts.bup, video_ts.ifo, video_ts_1.vob, vts_01.0.bup, vts_01.0.ifo, vts_01_1.vob, vts_01_menu_1.vob. When I play the vts_01_1.vob file on WinDVD, it plays fine. When I try to create a copy of the DVD using Instant Copy, I select the video_ts.ifo file. Almost immediately, I get back an error message "Corrupted DVD source file." and it goes no further.

For grins, I copied the DVD from the original to a blank (DVD-R) using Instant Copy and the resulting DVD was fine (actually better than the original).

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

I'll agree wholeheartedly with al92lt1
After using just about every method and program discussed here, I now use DVDShrink (free) & Nero. It is a 2 step process that generally takes 90 minutes or less from original to completion of final copy (1 disk).

Step 1: DVDShrink to rip
Step 2: Nero to burn

The final product is excellent and it keeps all of the extras. Great video and surround audio.

If you have an occasional (long movie) disk that Shrink intially is unable to compress to 4.37 Gigs or less, it does take a bit of playing to manually tweak it a bit. But I have yet to burn any coasters as of yet. I cannot say enough good things about this method, and I have turned a number of friends onto it who are equally as happy.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, I guess I have to agree.

As a PIC user, I find that it does have a good user interface and isn't as scary to someone with a computer but who doesn't feel comfortable downloading freeware and installing it on their computer. I wound up getting it for $29.95 after the CompUSA rebate so guess I can't complain.

The first turn-off was that it wouldn't copy encrypted movies, next that it wouldn't copy really long ones. I mean, if there's companies like DVDxCopy that are wiling to take on the big guys, why can't Pinnacle. Guess they're worried about the potential liability. Not a very consumer-oriented advocate I suppose. Where would the consumer electronics industry be today if they allowed themselves to be intimidated by the entertainment industry's threats about copyright infringement for taped music and VCRs?

I've found that the freeware of DVDDecripter, Shrink, and Nero fits my purposes fine. Doubt that I'll be using my PIC much.

I also tried Pinnacle Instant Copy and returned it for a refund for the sam reasons. Now I use DVD SHRINK and then burn with NERO, excellent results EVERY time.I also have a second choice, DVD X COPY XPRESS, this works pretty well and is simple to use.If anyone wants more info, just email me:

Well, I use PIC,DvdDecrypter and Dvd2one with A Pioneer A105 writer and Datawrite 4x media.

Perfect copies everytime, just backed up Gremlins 1 and 2 Special editions + the new box set of Taken.

No faults at all, I highly recommend PIC :--)
