As an absolute novice, I'm trying to work through how to use "Instant Copy" but unfortunately, for me, you can multiply "Instant" by a bazillion.

I go through the motions of dvd decrypter and all seems well, start up Instant Copy, select source folder, select video_ts file, create destination folder and press start.
I'm asked to name the file. I call it (Name of Movie)which Instant Copy will save as a "Disc Image"
Instant copy then goes through a process of "preparing" and "getting audio data size".
I then get the "Customise disc" screen, and all seems ok with an automatic 4.31gb size.
I then press the "OK" button, and immediately get an error message saying
"Failed to set data for"..(Directory I set).pdi"
Can anyone please help and reduce the number of instants I've wasted trying to get Instant copy work?
Thanks

You must rip "ALL" files from your dvd with dvd decrypter. then select the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the folder where you ripped the dvd. Then when i asks you for destination image name, you name it whatever you want to. It will create a image file on your hard drive. Then when you get done you can burn it with ic also.

Jabber, I tried Instant Copy, too and it's a hassle. The easiest program I ever used is DVD X Copy XPRESS. It just copies the movie, no extras like alternate endings etc. I copies it to 1 dvd.

Instant copy is easy!! and dvd xcopy sucks! It doesn't remove copy protection and your copy can't be recopied, and it leaves an electonic print on your dvd so you can trace it back to you.

I don't have a problem with the copying of all files from dvd decrypter.
The problem is with instant copy.
Firstly, it doesn't recognize in my destination drive anything other than the Hard Drive - that is, it doesn't see the dvd burner.
I can't copy across from the Source Drives because it doesn't recognize any drivers
Secondly, the problem I already went through ... I get some strange error message saying that I "failed to set data for (directory i set) .pdi. What the hell does that mean and how do I sort these two problems out?
Help me! Please!

You can go to pinnacle web site and get the latest update for instant copy. Maybe that will solve your problem.

Forget Instant Copy, I returned mine for a refund. DVD X Copy Xpress RULES! So easy, 2 steps and you're done. If you need the extras then use DVD Shrink and burn with Nero. Both methods copy to one single DVD. Software shouldn't be a hassle.

For all those using DVD Decrypter:

In the settings, there is a button for "File Mode". So, instead of showing all the video streams, it shows all the files on the DVD. This is what you need!! Using file mode, the software automatically selects all files on DVD, which can be decrypted to hard drive. In the other mode (called video streams or something like that) you can decrypt individual .vob files, which is pretty much useless unless you plan to import them to a video editor for cutting up.

Once all files are on your hard drive (should automatically go into a VIDEO_TS folder), then go and use your Pinnacle, DVD2One, DVDshrink or what have you.

Decrypter obviously does not shrink your DVD, so you need around 9 gigs of free space to copy your DVD to your hard drive (unless the movie is smaller). The purpose of this step is to remove copy protection from the DVD files, which is something that Pinnacle and other software can't legally do (DVD-Xcopy can, but it adds info about what you copied from, and is losing its legal battle and has been pulled from many stores).

Instant copy was great until I bought a Sony DRU-510A DVD recorder. Pinnacle instant copy does not support it! WTF! Guess I will have to use DVD2One until Pinnacle gets it?s A$$ in gear!

Would highly recommend using DVDshrink instead of DVD2one. Shrink gives you a lot more control over your end product. You can see what level of compression you will need, and make choices about including "extras" like the "making of xxx" or deleted scenes or whatever there is. Also, you can split one DVD-9 into two DVD-5's if you want to, which keeps quality high and lets you include everything. The cropping tool is the key to that.

Jabber,

I know the problem your going through,

I found another way of backing-up DVDs using just DVD-Decrypt and InstantCopy,

1) Use DVD-Decrypt to backup your files from the dual-layer DVD into your hard drive, this will of course create a mega- GB ifo file into your hard drive

2) Use InstantCopy to "shrink" this ifo file into a 4.31GB file to fit into a single-layer DVD and will create a .pdi file into your hard drive.

Note: make sure that you put these two types of files in a separate folder

3) Now open up DVD-Decrypt again and click on Mode, pull down into ISO and click on Write

Select your source (which is the "shrinked" file or .pdi file)

then slide your DVD recordable media in wait 15-20 minutes and you're done.

I think the longest process out of all of this is the "shrinking" part; the conversion from the Decrypted file into a .pdi file usually about 1 hour or less.

the decrypting and the writing into the recordable DVD actually only take 15-20 minutes each step.

Good luck with it.

Hi there

I have tried to use the method you described for copy dvd's. the DVD-Decrypt program creates an IFO file. I then start InstantCopy - select the IFO file - select a new folder to put the 'shrink' file. InstantCopy then enters a loop when reading the tracks - Have I missed a stage out? Should I be changing any other setings in InstantCopy?

The main reason for me trying this was to get around the Security issues - Is there another way using InstantCopy??

Thanks

I'm trying to find some way to copy to/from DVD-RAM discs containing video. Instant Copy has a "Profiles" selection for DVD-RAM, but the software apparently doesn't read or write to it, unless I'm missing something.

I have several DVD-RAM discs that I'd like to copy -- either to DVD-R or other RAM discs.

When looking at the files on DVD-RAM discs I see one folder named Dvd_rtav and 3 files:Vr_mangr.bup, Vr_mangr.ifo, and Vr_movie.vro. The vro file is large and contains the video. It can be played using MPEG2 software. When I go to Instant Copy it doesn't recognize the .ifo files, or any other file, as a useable file.

is some other software needed to construct a video_ts folder or some other routine needed for DVD-RAM? Has anyone worked with DVD-RAM files and PIC?

Thanks

Lee

Nitro,

What do you mean by "enters a loop when reading the tracks "
If you are using Instant Copy make sure that you have downloaded the updated copy. and it should create a .pdi file in the folder that you designate.

OK guys! HHHHelp me, please! I bought a new PC, one that has a DVD burner and I cant even use it. It's the DVD-R/CD multi-recorder type.

1. I downloaded the DVD Decrypt software and
placed the movie onto my HD with as a video ts file. that part worked perfectly....

2. Then I opened "Instant Copy" and tried to copy the video TS file to a blank DVD-R, 4.7 gb.
The movie started doing it's thing for about 1.5 hours, I thought "yeah baby! this is gonna work!"

3. BUT! after about 1.5 hours the DVD-R drive pops open and I get an error message, not even text explaining the problem, just

error:00000/00000000000/ junk.

I have tried the process over and over with no obvious reasons as to why it wont record from my HD over to the DVD???

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE? <cring>
Please if anyone can simplify this for a dumb blonde, please help me. :-(
Katie, sad in Fl.

At last!!!!

Having tried almost everything to correct the problem I was having I decided to look for yet another piece of software to do what I thought was the simple task of copying DVD's. I came across copydvdpro.com.

The software cost me £25 ($39) and works perfectly. It takes around 20mins to shrink a film (the content you decide), it then takes around 30 mins to burn the film to DVD.

Well worth the money.

Katielynn,

Make sure you have all the updates for Pinnacle instant copy. The latest version is 7.0.3.140. Make an image of the remixed DVD on the hard drive first. Select the decoded video in the left screen and a location on the hard drive on the right screen. Once pinnacle instant copy is finished remixing the DVD there will be an image created in the location you selected. Now, select this new image in the left window and your DVD recorder in the right. This is how I copy DVDs will all the menus. There are other programs out there that you can use but I would recommend DVD Decrypter and Pinnacle instant copy as the easiest and most confidential way of copying a copy protected DVD. There are other ways to copy a DVD but for a blond who designates herself as a ?blond? should stick to the easiest way. Pun intended.

Thanks guys for the helpful tips...but I'm still at wits end here tring to figure this out.

OK, I did the dvd-decript and saved the movie on my c:/ drive in a video_ts format.

When I go to DVD2One, I start the program, leave it on the 'english' and then, d:/ as my source drive and c:/video_ts as the destination.

I click next....it goes to another window, "select the title you want to process" and its blank, theres no titles to choose from, so I cant continue from that ponit. ??????????????

Also...after using dvd-decript, it DID allow me to copy the movie onto my hard drive, I can play the movie without the dvd now..... so, I know that worked...but, when I tried to save it from the HD location onto a blank DVD using "INSTANT COPY"....it will go through a 1-2 hour process and then when it starts to copy onto the DVD, the drive pops open and a get the error message...the last time I tried it read: "no sense:oooo/ and a bunch of numbers" STRANGE!

I have searched the boards to try and find an answer, but have been unsuccesful. Thanks for reading this, please help if you can. This is driving me nuts!!! wonder what am I doing worng?

I have a new PC 256mem, pent4, with the combo dvd/cd drive which plays & record. Instant Copy, Roxie and downloaded the dvd-decript and dvd2one.

Katielynn,

First off you are better off if you select all the files to decrypt when using DVD Decrypter. Make sure all files are highlighted before decrypting. When using DVD2One, in the source selection box, select the IFO file for the movie, it should be the only file you can select once you have navigated to the directory where DVD decrypter saved the files (if that one does not work try another until you find the right file). On the next screen there should be all the chapters and movie running times listed in the window for each VOB file. Select the one with the highest number of chapters and or the longest playing times (if you are coping a 120 min movie look for a file that has at least 2 hours of running time). Highlight that movie and select next. Then it will ask you to select what audio and subtitles you want. I usually unselect all subtitles and only select DTS and or 6 channel English audio. The less audio channels you select the better the quality of the video. Make sure you select a different folder for the remuxed files that DVD2One will make. I usually set up my directories like this
C:\Movie name\VIDEO_TS (decrypted DVD data from DVD Decrypter)
C:\Movie name\Remuxed\VIDEO_TS (Files created by DVD2One or Pinnacle Instant Copy)
If pinnacle instant copy can make the .pdi image but gives you an error when trying to burn, try a new version of DVD decryptor, it can burn the image created by Pinnacle Instant Copy. I have not tried this yet but people say it works in the message boards, try a search, hope this helps.

Katie

I spent so much time and used so many different programs to unsuccessfully copy DVD's I can't begin to tell you... the only evidence of the frustration I experienced can be deemed by the reversed letters now slowly fading from my forehead... (from banging my head on the keyboard!)

Using copydvdpro (www.copydvdpro.com) now takes me 20 mins to shrink a film to HD, it takes around another 30 mins to burn the film (4xDVD burner, P4, 2.8GHz)Is there anything out there faster for burning films bar a blow torch????

I haven't found a film yet that I haven't been able to copy. Also PC World accepted the Pinnacle software back with no argument!

AHAAAA! I was able to burn a Pinnacle Instant Copy image with DVD Decrypter! This is amazing! I can now burn my Pinnacle Instant Copy images on my Sony DRU-510A at 4X WOOT!

Nitrosnow ?it takes around another 30 minutes to burn the film?,

You are not burning at 4X you are burning at 2.4X or 2X If you burn at 4X it only takes ~14 minutes to burn a DVD. You might want to make sure you are using 4X media and that the software you are recording with supports 4X burning. I use verbatim 4X media and I have had no problems with any DVDs I record at 4X. I still use 2.4X DVD+R, 2X DVD-R or 8X CD-R for PS2 games just to be safe. I have also not had any problems recording CD based PS2 games at 24X but just to be safe I still record at 8X.

Instant Copy from Pinacle is great. But you have to watch out. There are some movies that have problems if you rip everything that is not english. I made a duplicate of my "Tears Of The Sun" and it kept crashing at the beginging. Found out when I went back to the original, that it was trying to translate a warning from english to french. Well, I had that ripped out. The movie is great.. but sometimes it is necessary to keep everything in the video. All languages and subtitles. Or things could be a nice coaster. Of course this took me 2 discs to really get it through my thick skull. :)
