I use dvd fab then i use vobblanker then finally dvd shrink then nero to burn.. I use to have no problem burning at 4 but now every time I go to burn at that speed it forces me to burn at 1 ??? is there a setting that I might beable to change it back to all speeds ? I used to have no problem burning, and stop burning for about a month, then wanted to start burning again and now this problem ?? I also tried burning with dvd decrypter and same thing makes me burn at 1 no matter what ??? Does this ring a bell to anyone ? Any suggestions ??

Could be a few things - burner, discs used, firmware or a combination.
So your best bet is to post the last Nero log to help try and sort this out.
If you're using Nero 6 look here:
program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt
Nero 7 look here:
program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory.txt
Also what burn speed options are listed in Shrink - is it just 1x?

Well i hust had that problem with my Lite-On SHW 1635S. I use a way older version of Nero, and I back up stuff using Alcohol...well I noticed it was taking a very long time to burn 4 GB using 16x media.

Well, I ntoiced when Nero was doing it's thing, my buffer was dropping from it's usual 99%, down to 50%, then back up to 98%. It was not constant.

Eventhough I don't know why it does it, and it would be nice if someone explains it, I downloaded another firmware update. Fixed it no problem.

good to go!!

You don't indicate if your firmware is up to date or what brand media you are using...also check to see that your drive hasn't slipped into PIO mode. We need more information to give you the help you need.

I guess we will get it all eventually...

What brand and model # is your burner and what is the current firmware version that you are using, have you checked to see that you are running in DMA mode or PIO mode?

I can...take the time to do a little reading.

http://my.afterdawn.com/locoeng/blog_entry.cfm/216

To find out your firmware updates open DVD Decrypter, go to Tools, Drive, Capabilities. The top line of the new window will list your drive and firmware version. You can also check for firmware updates through DVD Decrypter by going to Tools, Drive, check for firmware.

Good Luck and let us know how you are coming along.

OK, now were cooking...LOL

First things first though, you need to remove your serial # from all of your logs, or remove all logs but the last one along with the serial for it through the edit post function.

Nero is out of the Bible...update to 6.6.0.18 here:

I know that you can't select another speed, but firmware update and Nero upgrade could fix this...then you will want to burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media.

@celibate
First let's edit out the serial # - begins w/ 1A - don't need someone else using it. It's in each of the logs posted.

Here some suggestions - try these and let's see how it goes.
Quote:
Nero API version: 6.3.0.0
Update your Nero to 6.6.0.18
Just copy and paste this FTP site in your browser for the download:
ftp://ftp.us.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
Quote:
Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr : 1
Drive is autodetected - recorder class: Std. MMC recorder
Nero doesn't fully recognize your drive so the Nero update may help.
Quote:
Recorder: < VOM-12E48X> Version: 100A
The latest firmware is 100D. Here's link:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1833
The bad news is the maker of this drive Artec doesn;t seem to be around anymore. So the instruction link doesn't work. The download may contain a readme file with instructions on how to flash.
If you need help just post back.
Try these and we can go from there.

editted to add: ya beat me locoeng- good advice btw :)

@celibate
In the post with your logs look to the right and you will see what looks like a pencil w/ paper. Click on that to edit your post.
The logs are separtated by this:
====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======
And your serial # is under that.

Next use the link gwen gave or the ftp to update Nero. Download it then install it - this will update Nero. Double click on the file downloaded and it will guide you thru the process.

Scratch the firmware update for now - the update is not available. I'll have to see if another can be found.

Hopefully one of us can find a firmware update for you.

Oh no still need your help! Firmware on this drive is a bear - may have to be done thru dos w/ a floppy. Seems the company is no longer around or at least hosting any websites.
Oh and better you than me on diaper duty :o)

The only good download I can find it this:

EWWWWWWWWW

I'm almost afraid to touch that one...looks like the instructions on the page should suffice though, as well as downloading the DOS boot disc. Could be risky.

Oh and you are more than welcome to take over on diaper dookie for a while if ye wish...LOL

EDIT:

@celibate

How old is this drive anyway, several years perhaps?
