it's quiet from a general perspective, because the fan stays on low most of the time (it did with my X2, so thats 300W load it dealt with fine), but when all the heat from my CPU and to an extent my graphics card goes up into it, the fan spools very quickly, and then it gets very noisy. Additionally, I may have a slightly duff fan in this one, it just sounds too bad at idle for them all to be like that!

Pushed my E6600 to 3.2GHz. I'm gonna leave it and see what temps I get. If it stays stable I might just leave it there. I OC for the performance boost, not the benchmark scores :)
I'm at about 35-40*C idle and about 45-50*C full load. Thinking that's a nice temp range?
EDIT: Got a 3D Mark 03 of 35485 with my 8800GTX vs approx.15000 with my X850XT and about 20000 with my X1800XT. I've seen it at about 30000 with an FX-62 so I reckon that sounds about right :P

your cpu has very little impact on a 3dmark score. from using a 3400+ oced to 2.4ghz to a core2duo at 3.3ghz only improved my scores by about 350 points in 3dmark 06 but the cpu score itself was more than three times higher.

What's a decent score with 3D Mark 06. I ran it on Gina's and got 4267. I have no idea what that translates out to. I tried 06 on mine one time but the sundial quit working first and it looked like everything was wading in Fudge! I tried lighting a candle but that even made it harder to read what with all the flickering!! LOL!!

I got an extra 120 marks from going from 2.6ghz to 3ghz. Overclocking my GPU however earned me an extra 900!

But what would be the point? :P
I was initially planning on getting an HD2900 card, but having seen the expected benchmarks, I'm not so interested any more. I can only hope the card is significantly better in a DirectX10 environment. Having finally silenced my X1900XT with a Thermalright heatsink, I now have a quiet PC, barring my Thermaltake Power supply. Granted, that problem is as much to do with how my PC's currently laid out as it is to do with the noise of the unit itself, but even at idle, the fan noise is distinctly audible over everything else. The HDDs in my PC are configured to auto-shutdown after 3 minutes. It's now such that when they spin back up again, the process is clearly audible from start to finish.

Bad news or not, it's old news... The 2900 series has been a complete flop, and unless the performance is vastly improved in DirectX10, ATi had best design something else quickly, or they will rapidly be relegated to budget equipment only. I'm two-thirds sold on buying the next nVidia card, only half sold before seeing this article. When the 8900 gets released, I'll see what the scores are. If things look good, that's what I'll be buying.

well now the nda is lifted and we can see unbiased tests, i cant see nvidia being in a rush to superseed there top of the line cards as it would make little sense. they would only be making a small profit on the new cards and those already out would cost less making them less profit per unit.
the high end is only for bragging rights, i think its some of the other 10 cards ati are about to release that nvidia will be watching for.

I am honestly disappointed in AMD/ATi. I'm really glad I chose the nVidia/Intel route. I know I'm outperforming the top ATi/AMD systems for sure now :)

And it'll be that way for a while. Looks like it's time to go nVidia again.

sam put your credit card back in your wallet.
after reading the link i posted above alot of other people who are still under a nda have said that those results a quite far of what they have seen. now i would guess this is down to the card that was tested being a model earlier in the production and as such it does not represent the perforance of the final product.
the main thing i see here is that the r600 and the 88gtx are being compared in what it can do with dx9 which is not the big selling point of these cards. im not looking for one that does great in dx9 i want some future proofing against dx10 and as such wont rush into buy one till they have been compaired againts each other in a dx10 title(s).
anyway i have read romurs we could hear somthing tomorrow and others saying the 26th, either way we still have no dx10 games to play.

If Directx10 performance is significantly better, I'll get one, but without a big DX10 increase, the weedy DX9 performance just doesn't sell it to me.

Now it may just be my luck, but I've never received a DOA or defective part in my life. Either I've picked the right brands or I've just had some extreme luck.

I'd go with luck because if all the products were good, there'd be no need for a warranty. I've gotten a few name brand items that need a RMA.

I never owned a Benq DVD burner, I bought the 40x20x10 CD writer a few years back, and had it fail both times. I don't class Benq as a reputable enough company to be surprised about something breaking. the others I do, however.
