Hmmm.... let see, the famous AnyDVD + Clonedvd2 vs RipIt4Me and DVDFAB Decrypter? All I can say is that it's a tough call -- perhaps, called it "to each own." However, there's line between free and retail, that being said; "free" has more advantages and is favored by the more experiences/advanced users in my humble opinion.

As long as Fengtao (the author behind DVDIdle Pro, DVD Region + CSS FREE) constantly throwing his skills and talented on DVDFAB Decrypter, I believe it is equally as great as RipIt4Me and AnyDVD. I've used both "RipIt4Me" and "DVDFAB Decrypter" and I must say that I love them both equally. In the end, it all boils down to preference and experiences of each own (the individual).

In addendum to processing tools such as VobBlanker and FixVTS. Again, I must say that both works great to each own unique way and it's inevitable. However, one has more advantage over the other despite the fact that both process flawless files in the end results. Evidently, with VobBlanker, you have more control over the movie, what you can do to it (i.e. editing, blanking out scenes, VTS, PGCs, Cells that you don't need them).

As for quality, I used nothing but DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70, second is Nero Recode 2 (with Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie). In contrast, use whatever you deemed that works best for you. We're all entitled to our own judgment, so the choice is yours.

If you still have been unable to burn your file, try the free program ImgBurn and run the file through as build an iso and then ImgBurn will burn it. Here is a guide on what you should do, it is for Dual Layer media but the same holds true for Single Layer.

@arniebear

I checked that link. yeah I've now done a DL build and burn with ImgBurn, perfection-Poseidon. It is now my program of choice for all my DLs that I do, which is not many. BUT I have been doing a lot of old movies that are single layer using AnyDVD and Imgburn. Less than 15 mins to build and burn the ISO on 8xTYs with Benq 1650. The only complaint I have is, you have to start the burn manually even with two drives. "Are you listening LUK" Great program.

Just tried out that Ripit4me and I must say I was very impressed.
I got a copy of The Producers which I couldn't copy and because I've been off the internet for 9 months I was out of touch with the latest developments.
Anyway, downloaded Ripit4me and FixVTS and followed the guide here on afterdawn.
Brilliant, very easy to use as each program opens the next when its needed. Now got a lovely copy of The Producers.

help, i'm a newbie. dont know how to backup copy protected dvd's. came here for some clarification. now everything is as clear as mud. still not sure how, only with a lot more info. added confusion factor. who to believe. only thing i am certain of, i think, is robspace from previous forum about 1click is to not believe. contradicts himself. i'm not setting up a pirate HDTV station in mexico, or running benchmarks, etc. just want good quality not perfect. someone here mentioned using AnyDVD AND DVD Decrypter, arent they the same thing? why 2 progs?

i have nero6.6 suite and AnyDVD. can i do it with these, or do i need 8 more progs and maybe double secret probation. if so please walk me thru it. a thousand thank yous. ques 2 can i get a 6gig movie compressed onto 4.7gig disc how

yes you can get a 6 gig movie to a DVD-5

you can go many routes since you already have AnyDVD go ahead and download CloneDVD 2 with it. this is very easy program to use and yields you great quality. use this guide step by step and you will be on your way to backing up your DVDs

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

remember to use good blank media (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim} and burn at 4x or no faster than 8x.

also make sure your firmware on your drive is up to date your burning on a clean machine (disc cleanup and defragging often) with out other programs running while in the burning process.

theres some freeware options also like "RipIt4Me" if you want to go that route, heres the link on it

@johngalt2

If you have AnyDVD up to date and Nero ultra suite then you can do almost all movies EXCEPT Sony because Recode refuses to work on my machine with Sony movies. Use AnyDVD in background and open Nero RECODE and select full movie or movie only. You should also get DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and IMGBurn all free programs a bbmayos page that aabbccdd gave you. The other free stuff he suggested are good too. The more ammo you have in your arsenal the better chance you can back up 100% of any disc you come across. Sonys do well with Shrink. Same program as Recode just not updated anymore; same coder wrote both. Just start easy with AnyDVD and RECODE or SHRINK.

Edit: Use the guides @bbmayo's site to use shrink, I don't recall if recode guide is there.

Here is a guide by my buddy Alkohol it is for DVDFab Decrypter, VobBlanker and Recode. You can look at the Recode part and it will give you the necessary info to operate the program.

rule of thumb- if it's over 80% clone / any....is the way 2 go.
if not IFOEdit + PGCEdit, FixVTS, VobBlanker, etc..is the way 2 go.
also depends on how busy ur too! lol

have a good one!

aabbccdd, garmoon, arniebear, youse guys are the best, thanx. glad i found this site. i'll give it a shot.

sounds like the reason for multiple programs of the same ilk, i.e. decrypters, is that not all can backup every disc. soooo, if one doesn't work, hit it with another.

Alkohol

I mostly use Nero Recode & I always use Advanced Anlysis &
High Quality Slow Recording.

Where is there a place that says ...

Assign Best Quality to Main Movie @ ?

I only do Main Movie , when I back up. Is that why I don't see that setting ?

That's why you don't see that option, because doing only movie. I use Recode just like you AA and slow encode. Sony movies mess Rercode up so Shrink does those.

Hi to all of you. My question is the following. If you had a dual layer burner like my Plextor PX-716A and dual layer media like Verbatim what free program would you use to back-up the entire DVD. I have use DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter. But sometimes the backup gets to much compresion to fit a DVD5 media. If it less than 85% I would then try to make the backup to dual media. What free program then would you suggest to backup the whole DVD to dual media with out eliminating nothing. Thank you.

Hands down, the program of choice is free ImgBurn. The new version of DVD Decrypter. It will set the layer break for you or you can designate it. Get it here:

http://www.imgburn.com/

Here's guide to use it:

I think that you misunderstand me. I know that AnyDVD can help DVD Decryter to backup a complete DVD. But what free program would help Decryter make a whole image of the DVD? When I do not want to delete anything. Thank you.

@restgarc

The confusion is that we don't know if you want to backup your movie to a single layer 4.3g disk or to a dual layer disk, there is a difference. We need to know what kind of blank media disk you are going to use to burn your movie on. You can rip your movie with the free DVDFab Decrypter and then compress it to fit a single layer disk, or you can use a dual layer blank disk and there is not need for compression.
