Pepp,
I agree on the speakers. I've looked at those X530's a few times. For less than $100 (£50) they seem like a good deal for the money. ;P I currently have a cheapy Labtec 2.1 system and they do ok for now..... If you guys had wifes (and kiddies) you'd understand why we (married men) try to get the best deals and the necessities. lol. :D

Quote: Zalmans are more expensive than both and collect dust like nobody's business. I've had one, I know!
the dust part is only true with the flower type zalmans. I even smoke and have yet to have the need to clean my cnps9500. I do however like the thermalright ultra 120 and extreme. I will most likely go with one of those two on my next build.
as for desktop speakers, I'm a diehard klispch fanboy.

They're cheap because they're crap. Trust me.
These are supposed to be pretty good

Mort: Didn't realise that, I'm sure someone here had me that the dust got stuck in the tunnel type coolers too, can't remember who. Either way, a Thermalright is a big leap up from a Zalman.

Mort81,
Quote: the dust part is only true with the flower type zalmans. I even smoke and have yet to have the need to clean my cnps9500.
Rarely do I ever disagree with you, but here in San Bernardino, the dust and dirt situation is so bad that the 9500 had to be cleaned every 3-4 weeks, and it's a PITA to do because the fan is in the way and is difficult to remove. It seems to start in the inside of all the little "Vs" and grows outward like a carpet. If I leave it long enough to where it starts to get too warm, you can pick it out with a toothpick in big pieces! The AF7-Pro is a snap to clean. Pop off the fan, give it a quick dusting with a toothbrush and blow a little air through it and you're done for the next 6 months!
That situation may soon change here though, as we've had more rain so far this year than in all of the past 4 years! It's usually so damn dry! It's frustrating as it rains all around us within just a few miles and we rarely get any! We laughingly call this the Dust Bowl of california! You can sit out front and watch all the storms around us in all directions, watch the lightning and hear the thunder, but we get nothing! Riverside, Big Bear, Cahoon Pass all get pounded and we get nothing but a light show! The clouds dump all their rain going over the hills and mountains before it ever gets to us and then drop down to our elevation and no rain! LOL!!

Does anyone else find the sidebar on the left annoying?
You know I don't spending money on flashy cases. It pleases idiots who buy computers though lol. It even pleases me, but I'd rather spend that money on better parts and get a modest case.
Don't you guys agree?

Depends. I'm happy to spend money on a good case, but on the basis that I'm going to be using it far longer than any of the individual components in it. For you that's not usually the case is it?
As for the side bar, yeah it really ticks me off, at least you can minimise it.

Yep it's annoying to say the least. lol. I tried blocking it but that was a bad idea if you like the little "menu" boxes when you compose a message. lol. :P
@sammy,
Which set of speakers were you calling "CRAP"?? I'm guessing the X530's?? Will they not play at a normal level? Anyway just curious.....

Nono, the X-530s are alright for most purposes, it was a very cheap 2.1 set he picked out that I labelled accordingly.

boozer,
I don't know but it seems like a really good "cheapy" board. I didn't consider anything with less than 6 SATA's when I built mine. I have all 8 hooked up. lol. If I want to run any more SATA HDD's I'll have to pull a SATA ODD or add a SATA controller card. lol. :P
...gm
sorry no help as usual..... :P
edit;
ooops sam, sorry meant to direct that at boozer. ;)
These X-540's aren't to bad. ;)
Thanks for the quick comment on the X530's. :D

I only use two SATA ports, and I don't plan on raid. Seems like a pretty good deal.
EDIT: Any thoughts on a good cheap case. The Antec P182 is only 90 bucks, but I don't like the fact that it has no front fan.

abuzar1,
Quote: How is this board?
I would spend the extra $10 and get the GA-P35-DS3L!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059
For your extra $10, it has much better power regulation, which is very important, especially if you overclock! Even the On-board sound is much better. The DS3L is the same basic package as the rest of the DS3 series, just without the extras. Knowing what I know now, I would never go back to a MB with 3 stage power regulation. Too easy to make smoke! LOL!!
BTW! I think the sidebar is there to enable some flexibility when someone posts pics. Even then once in a while, someone gets crazy and puts something too large, it still blows the screens out of whack! That's why I've taken to using the direct link. It saves space and it doesn't give someone else fits regardless of the size. The problem is that until the offending pic is removed, the whole thread gets knocked out of kilter until the pic is removed!
Best Regards,
Russ

abuzar1,
Looks good to me. Not my choice for a case, but that's only because I had a nasty experience years ago with a case with a full length door. I knocked a steaming hot cup of coffee over in my lap! LOL!! That's why I like the 2/3 door on my Cavalier! I can sit my coffee cup right in front of it and it misses by a mile! LOL!!
If you are going with the Quad I would still go with the DS3R, but that's just me. Strictly for the Ultra Durable!
Best Regards,
Russ

Like I said I won't be building that, just checking up on recent prices. I'll wait for the new Quads, and I probably will go with the same mobo I have now. I'm skipping X38/X48 as I am going the Nvidia route for now.
Let's see what the future brings...

abuzar1,
I use MBs like that for business machines. Stuff that doesn't get overclocked. I still use a 500W PSU though! Preferably with OB Video!

You use X38 motherboards for stuff you DON'T overclock? OK, that's kinda weird don't you think?

Ok and since the cheapest X38 motherboard is 200, you use 200 dollar boards in business machines...
Yeah I'm just gonna assume you were talking about the crappy 60 buck motherboard.
