no i have the GA-P3D-DS3R
not the EP35
well its full blown doing the same thing it did before i sent it to gigabyte.
start to post gets to the windows screen and shuts down and reboots..i dont know if it sthe mobo or the damn PSU?
i got OCCT to run. well it did for 28mins then got the code 4 error. so i tried to run orthos and it shut down and started the reboot stuff over and over....

Dodgy PSUs can cause untold issues. Wait until the new PSU is up and running before you draw any conclusions. Have you run Memtest86 by the way Rob?

yes i ran memtest on it before i sent the mobo out. it passed 3 test on it with no problems...
i got it off(well it wont stay running) now. keep it down until i get my PSU tomorrow. i hope...
i did just send gigabyte a email about the same problem as before. maybe it is the mobo heck i dont know .send me a new one not a refurbed one

I second Sam on the "Clean Install" of XP, and leaving it off till the new PSU gets here! Don't want to hurt anything!

The thermaltake is the same design as the one I have without the PFC. The Thermaltake is Dual-Rail, which I prefer! I understand the arguments both ways! Both are excellent power supplies. Russ if that's the case then I wouldn't have any issues using the Thermaltake psu. ;) I have the 550 version of the Corsair 450 and it's a great psu. :) Stable and runs my X2 3800 w/o a hitch.
I think the links I gave nighters for psu's are pretty good, I'm going on info about the FSP psu's tho. I've read they are pretty decent units but I don't think anyone here has one.
I have/had 2 Cooler Master units, 2 Antec units, Apevia, and an Ultra unit. Believe it or not they've all been good but I wouldn't recommend the Apevia to anyone and it depends on which Ultra you get if it's any good or not. :D

yea as much as its killing me im gonna leave it alone until i get the new PSU. getting ready to check trusty FED-EX tracking...lol. but while its down again im gonna move it downstairs where it can be in the open and is 20*cooler..lol

o ok i have question if you were going to build a new computer now and planned on using it for two to three years. which of these two Processor a q6600 or one of the 3.0 intel's like the E6850?

The E6850 is a better CPU to have right now, but there's not a great deal in it. In a couple of years' time the Q6600 will certainly have the advantage and when overclocked, the already narrow 25% performance gap between the speeds narrows further.

Ahh, he said for the future. Clock for clock a Q6600 performs better anyway because of the extra cache. Mine is running at 3.6Ghz, so they can overclock fairly well. If he is gonna use it for 2-3 years then it's better for him to stick with the more future proof CPU.

While Cache is not the be all and end all like Abuzar seems to think, it certainly helps, and the additional cores will provide much needed extra processing power for whatever will be owning our systems in a couple of years' time.

redice I have both cpu's and I'd choose the Q6600 over the E6850 just for the fact that it has 4 cores and more and more progies are starting to utilize the extra cores. I've done video encoding with both machines and the E6850 at 3.6GHz encodes just faster than the Q6600 at stock. If I pushed the Q6600 to abuzar's speed (3.6GHz) I'm sure the extra cache and OC would pass the E6850 for speed.
What is the purpose of this build?? AND by all means BUY/GET good RAM!!! Get 1066 if you're going with DDR2 and try to use G.Skill, Mushkin, Corsair, Crucial (not tracers), and maybe Kingston upper end stuff... ;)

Any half decent motherboard and a good cooler + proper 1066mhz RAM = 3.5Ghz+ Quad core, no worries.

400x9 = 3.6GHZ Q6600 (w.o Ocing the 800MHZ ram when on 1:1)

whats the difference in the GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R and the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L? also is the GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R worth the extra money?

The DS3L is the low cost version, and the DS3R The high grade. The differences aren't really great as far as how they perform and overclock, though the DS3R gets a bigger chipset heatsink. You're mainly looking at extra USB/SATA ports I think.

I never said it like that. I said clock for clock the Q6600 will perform better because of the extra cache. Never said it will perform MUCH better did it? ;)
Also a note to all you guys, I don't think I can keep it at 3.6Ghz much longer. Temps go up to about 64 Degrees in COD 4. That's HOT! So if you plan on getting a Q6600 and OCing it then invest in better cooling than mine(Freezer 7 Pro). I'll try lapping the CPU and the Heatsink to see how much I can improve. I know it's going to void the warranty BTW.

To be honest, I'm amazed you've got as far as you have. At full fan speed, I was getting close to 50 degrees even with my Duo when I pushed it hard. Rather than risk lapping your lovely Quad, why not just invest in a big-ass cooler?

My P35C-DS3R was fine, and I believe that's the same board with DDR3 slots added...
