Having trouble playing dvd's created using dvdxcopy - ahve already tried several media and dvd player that I am using does support DVD+R and DVD+RW. The player is a Sony DVP-670D.

Media tried:

1. Fujifilm DVD+R and DVD+RW
2. Memorex DVD+R and DVD+RW

Burners used:

1. Pioneer A03
2. Sony DRX-510UL

If I take the same movie and use dvdxcopy xpress it works fine; however, I can not for the life of me get it to play using dvdxcopy - the same movies, either using dvdxcopy xpress or dvdxcopy work just fine on a PC. Don't have another set-top player to try....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

if the movies play fine on your PC (i assume you mean they autorun as dvds and play in your default DVD-playing software) but not in your standalone, then the problem must lie with the files on the DVD-R, and not the media or the player.

all i can say is - if dvdxcopy xpress works then just keep using it!

got a question though - what exactly are you trying to do? ie what movie is it, whats the source, and what have you done to it in dvdxcopy and xpress?

assuming you're taking a retail movie and making a 1:1 copy of it, just rip it with DVD Decrypter and use DVD2One to make it small enough for a DVD-R.
if you're trying to just take certain parts of the retail disk (eg just the movie) then rip with DVD Decrypter and use IFOEdit to fix the IFO files.

im thinking that must be the problem - the IFO files aren't set up correctly. xpress is obviously doing it properly but dvdx isn't.

one more thing - not sure about the Song DRX-510UL but if im right, the Pioneer A03 doesn't do DVD+ media, so how have you tried Fujifilm and Memorex DVD+R on a Pioneer A03?

reddragon - to answer your questions:

1. just doing a 1:1 using dvdxcopy
2. didn't want to try using DVD2One so as not to loose any image quality or dolby digital and stuff
3. as for the movie(s), I've tried several, all of which people have reported work on the updated working list (forgot the page)
4. you are correct, the Pioneer does not do any +, only -, so I've used the Sony and also used an HP 300e, which I returned due to random issues and the fact that it does not do -, as the Sony does - and +!!

Thanks for all your help on this, it is greatly appreciated - last thing I'm trying is using the latest version of Nero with dvdxcopy, I was using v5.5.10 or something like that...hear that v6.0.0.9 fixes some issues with DVD, in particular someone mentioned that it might fix the issue I'm having (can't remember which thread I read it on but in the next 30 min. I will know for sure if that's true)

ok, so much for using Nero v6.0.0.9 - that did not do the trick either...I will solve this !

or, use xpress instead :)

to be honest i dont think DVD2One loses any quality at all - i've used it to backup movies that are 2.5 or 3 hours long, sometimes even more, with very little reduction in quality. and it wont remove any dolby digital or anything.

but if you prefer dvdxcopy thats fine with me, if you have any DVD-Rs lying around then maybe test the movies on one of those with your Pioneer A03.

but really i think the problem lies with the IFO files as i've had similar problems before, when the movie is there and will play in a PC but not a standalone, simply because the IFO file does not point to the first movie file to play correctly.

try creating the movie files with dvdxcopy, then using IFOEdit to adjust the IFO files. its been ages since i've used that, but there will be a guide here somewhere.

the latest version of Nero might help as well

ok, seems that it's something with dvdxcopy (which I'm using v 1.5.2) beacuse if I read the dvd using dvdxcopy and when asked to insert a blank, I instead use Nero v6.0.0.9 to burn it with it works fine - if I use dvdxcopy with the option selection or even unselected, to use Nero and UDF comatibility mode, it still does not work - so I guess, I'll stick to that process.

One of my stand alone DVD players won't read discs done with DVDXcopy, but discs burned with Nero are just fine.

I haven't tried Xcopy Xpress; I use DVD Decrypter and DVD2One now.
