Of course, sorry.

You really want to at least get another switch on the sensor or a dual pole switch to do so. Life will all of a sudden become much easier, and this mod will become far less of a bodge!

xenepp, i don't really see the advantage of the multi-switch method.
The only plus is that when changing original discs you don't have to power off the console.
i hardly play multiple games in a row so I really can do without this. (and this is not gonna change with MGS4 which is gonna stay in there for a while i guess ^^)

If it cut the 8'30 wait then of course I would have implented it!
Also I can put back PS3 to original state by just resoldering original motor wires, very fast and easy.
So i'll avoid messing with the sensor wires or original motor wires for now.
I may grab a 2x AAA (LR03) battery holder so everything can be hidden in the ps3 card compartment but that's as far as i'll go atm.

I was wondering about power source though... isn't there anywhere the ps3 is supplying 3 volts even when it is in standy? (standby led??)

Just installed the power source mod.
Mod works well, I also messured the voltage and my meter said 4,45 volt (litle more than 3 V).
I still think its a miracle my cardreader still works (soldering was difficult for me and wasnt going 100 % perfect).
Also have no problem swapping without mem card in cardreader.

But its great mod, I have no more battery pack behind my ps3 with batteries I have to change.
Ejecting and inserting discs also is lot faster now (better than with 2 half dead 1,5 V batteries).

So thank you xenepp for making the mod and TSR for the pictures.

David, did you use the points from the picture?
And it's working for you without having to insert a MemoryStick in the slot?
Hmm either i have different hardware or i really did something wrong because it wouldn't supply power with MS slot empty here!!?

Also I guess you use multiple switch? Otherwise how do you eject since you can't do it in standby anymore?

I used the 2 points from the picture. I also turned on my ps3 when it was open to see if there was actually power between the 2 points without memory card in it and there was power. And I can swap without memory card in it so maybe you picked a wrong point or its something else.

I use the 1 switch method + I made a little on-off switch on the sensor.

My original eject doesn't work anymore (didnt cut original wires to motor). So when I press eject, ps3 thinks he is ejecting the disc so stops spinning and blue led flashes, but ps3 is not ejecting cause doesnt work anymore. So after pressing eject button I simply use switch to eject disc.
Insert disc also works cause I can turn on the sensor, then put a disc in and then use my switch to insert it.

If you have more questions ask it and I try to answer with my best English..

Your english is good enough ;)
So you're indeed using a second switch, that explains it.
As for why i needed to insert a MStick to have power, i'm still clueless heh.

I will start updating now, 20 minutes and I have results.

Took little longer cause had a problem with my hdmi cable, but still works fine and still takes 8:30 minutes dor disc to stop spinning.

Hey guys.
I really want to do this mod. But Ive come to realize that there are a couple of methods in the thread.
So Id like to ask, which method is the most flexible and fairly undoable?
Also I would be very happy if someone updated or made a new tutorial.
thanks in advance.

hi everyone
first of all sorry for my bad english
this is great mod! few things for thinking...

1. i think there is no problem if the eject motor gets for a second 5v insted of 3v - no harm (i would like to now if someone tginks somethimg else)

2. someone tried to shut the wires to the "disc spin motor" and than check if the laser still seeking or she see that the disc is not spinnig so she turns off?
thanks u all

Not as far as driving to Netherlands.
I think its more easy and cheaper buying modded ps2 than spent so much money in someone do this mod and pay the cost of the journey.
+ a modded ps2 runs backups better + you dont have to wait 8:30 + your ps3 remains original.

I already have a modded slim PS2. I was more curious than anything and it's no big deal either way. However if if someone was able to do it for me, I'd consider selling on my modded PS2.

I already installed 2.40 firmware (I always install firmware as soon as I see there is new update).
Didnt thought about testing it, but I can test it now.

EDIT: nothing changed, still works great.

I'm curious as to how you figure the multi-switch method would work. Still trying to figure out where exactly the checks occur w/ the ps3's loading scheme.
i would say that the eject button itself is a check, and the slot loader sensor is also a check. and then when you load the game into the drive is where i would guess you have the main media check to make sure it is a valid game. with the switch, you bypass the eject button check, and with the slot load sensor disabled you also bypass that check. so when the game is in the drive and the ps3 reads it as a valid game, there are no more checks and you can freely swap away. i hope that answers your question. that's just my opinion of course. and also, i did try the switch with the load sensor enabled and when i unloaded the game to swap, the sensor picked up that the game was being unloaded which in turn unloaded the media from the ps3 xmb.

But ejecting a disc when the motor is still spinning cant be good for the ps3 either.
After lot of switches I think that will damage the ps3 too.
Its lot better with the laser turned off but I still wouldnt do it until there is also a way to stop the motor.

And those 2 ways to stop laser + motor will probably be lot of soldering inside ps3, and I dont want to solder in it for a 3rd time, cause 2 times I soldered in it I had feeling I broke the ps3..

just wanna share my experience with 2.41. yesterday afternoon, all my downloaded games can't launch. it would show the playstation 3 splash and then dark screen and hanged there. my son was playing games fine in the morning. i tried going thru all the settings, even my tv settings and even tried changing tv and cables. even a settings and system restore did not solve the problem. then i thought about the new style of quiting game from the xmb. maybe its my ps2 game that has not quit properly. but it certainly does not show that i have a game running in the xmb. i touch and hold the eject button. it light up and gives a few beep. then i tried launching warhawk again and voila!!! it launches!!! but too bad all my movies/mp3s/pictures are all gone :(

is it just my system? or is it swapped discs have to be exited properly? and why did the state of the swapped discs still intact even after series of restarts and even system restore?

Sounds like a load of crap to me but source/link ?

yantz, no such thing happened to me. and yeah you ALWAYS have to switch off the ps3 properly, either by "standby" button on ps3 or via the XMB menu. Never use the switch at the back directly!
