A dvd5 is a single layer DVD, a dvd9 is a dual layer disc.
On the back of a original game you can see if its DVD or Dual layer (i thought) and you can also google it.
For empty DVD's you can see on the package off coarse if they are dual layer or single layer.
And tsrps3, I have no problem testing it next times, cause I dont use the switch so much anymore since I have modded xbox360.
I maybe would even remove this mod, if I could (I cant cause eject button doesnt work anymore) rarely use it.
So just say in time if you want me to test it, cause I't not really big problem for me if it doesnt work anymore.

cool David.
It's just a precaution really, I don't see them patching the switch trick except if it's proven to work for PS3 games (extremely unlikely). Until then we're safe.
I still do play ps2 games once in a while, hell most are WAY better than ps3 games. Until MGS4..
Later,

What kind of wire do you use to solder on. Also, where should I purchase it at?

Also on your schematic you have two wires going to "PS3 Board" where is that? I don't see that in any of your pictures.

Ok something went horribly wrong. I installed the switch and I was doing the swap really well. Then after a day it stopped reading the PS2 games all together. The PS1 and PS3 games work perfectly. But the PS2 games wont read at all. If I try a swap with PS1 or PS3 games it just gives me an error.
Is there a way to reset the information or something?
Also I tried a full format (took 3 hours and 45 minutes) and didn't work.
I'm in a panic here! Any help is greatly appreciated!

you most likely burnt your laser for DVDs, try a DVD movie, if it works it's good.
Also, you should always use the best quality blank DVDs, verbatim. Rytek and other brands are crap and force the laser to focus so much that it can kill it.
Also, someone should definitely amend the first post about the 8m30s wait.
So in your case, try to play a retail dvd movie, if it doesn't work as well your laser is dead.

Normal DVD's do not work. CD's and bluray's do work. So how... would it not work for DVD's?

You burnt the laser incharge of reading DVDs, CDs and Blurays use a different laser..
How did that happen anyway? Did you used to wait 8.5 minutes before swapping or did you swap immediately after the PS3 recognize the DVD?

See, that's why the laser was burnt. If you have read all the posts, you should have known that you have to wait 8minutes and 30seconds after inserting the DVD so that the laser stops for safely swapping..
Again, as tsrps3 said, someone should amend the first post about the 8m30s wait.

I was wondering, is there a different in using DVD-R and DVD+R? Will it affect the PS3 laser?
I'm gonna use Verbatim as everyone say it's the best. Any other brand you recommend?

I never used +R on PS2/PS3 so i can't comment.
When you buy verbatim blanks, make sure they're manufactured by "mitsubishi chemicals".

I Use Rivision DVD+R and i have 3 backups and they seem to work fine. i never heard of the brand before but i opend it all up and burnd the disc and then reread it and found that they reccomended DVD-R blah blah. If i am badly going to wreck my ps3 then it be nice if someone tells me!!

Whats the rules for getting a CD/DVD out of your reader? Do I just eject and shut it off, or do I shut it off first, then eject it?

Hi,
I Installed the 1 switch method (like the org on the 1st page) except I didn?t cut any wires in the intention that I could use original functionality instead of cutting and extending wires and another switch. After a week or so the ps3 doesn?t pull the disc in even though the blue light flashes so I have to use the switch but the eject button/option (on case and on hypervisor) works fine (for the moment). And yes I do wait the 8mins 30 although I don?t think that the time I wait would affect this particular problem.
Is there any way to get it to work properly without having to buy a new ps3 or bluray drive? also I found a ps3 from Hong Kong in the uk for £40 (which defeats the object of the first sentence) and if I swapped the drive from that would that mean that I couldn?t play my uk pal ps/2 games (I got a uk pal ps3) because I know that ps/2 from other regions don?t work but ps3 games do. The reason I ask the this question is because I haven?t got a ps2! (Shock horror)
Sorry its rather long!

What do you mean by "I didn?t cut any wires"? You kept both the original motor wires and the new ones coming from the switch attached to the motor? I think this will return a feedback to whatever the original wires coming from.. and this is bad.

I did exactly the same. I kept the original wires so I could use the switch or the button, and after a while, the button didnt work anymore..
Now if I want to change discs (non bakups) I just press the eject button and use switch to eject. I dont know if there is a solution (buying new drive is little expensive for this little bad thing)

indeed, keeping the original wires sends the switch power to the motherboard and this is prolly what killed the internal eject.
I'm certain this is mentionned in the thread somewhere..
Man someone needs to definitely amend the first post.
btw, i didn't cut any wires either. there is a mini connector on the bottom left of the drive that you just needed to unplug!
There's a pic of mine showing this, maybe between page 4 and 7 of the thread.
If a better solution (..) is ever released, just unsolder the switch wires, plug the connector back and the ps3 is brand new again!
