see i performed this hack and everything but then when i try to insert a disc it just doesn't go in.
it seems like something is blocking the thing
i believe it is a problem here-

i feel this because when i was taking this part out, all the gears and stuff came out with it
i had to put them back together but i don't think i did a very good job
can someone please help me with this problem?
do i have to take it to Sony?
I have a PAL 60GB PS3

heres what i did. without closing the ps3 cover, force in a disc using your fingers to push in the disc. something will prevent it from going in fully, but just push it. a loud click will sound. this will sit the gears into its proper position. then use the motor to eject the disc. it should work now.

i have already tried that... it did not work
i think the spring that holds it together has stopped working
is it possible to buy the part somewhere?
or can it be fixed?

I thought I had the same problem too. I installed that part from the picture the wrong way and ps3 also wouldn't insert discs.
Not sure how I solved the problem, but try twist those rotating things so it will be fitting better (can explain btter in english).
btw, be careful with that part, cause first time all the little wheels fell of at my ps3 and tha was pretty difficult to built it back to original.

Hi, this is my first post. Does the hack still works with 2.53? Thanks a lot, specially for the original modder/poster.

hi, i've read a good portion of this thread and being desperate to play ps2 backups i tried this mod, unfortunately my ps3 can't read disks now and the icon doesn't even show up for the disk. I doubt it's because of a loose ribbon because i've disassembled and reassembled my ps3 10 times or more checking all the ribbons and connections and everything seems to be in order. do you think i might have messed up the laser or could there be another reason for this?
btw the disc does spin. and also, the eject button works but the on button doesn't . any ideas?

Hi grimz, haven't done the mod myself yet, but I sugest you to double check the disc insertion sensor, as it seems the ps3 isn't aware a disc is inside.
All the luck for you.

Anyone try using a blu-ray burner to decrypt and burn the iso onto a blu-ray disk and try this method? Does it work?

PS3 games have way more copy protection features built-in and as of now, no one has been successful in playing a PS3 blu-ray copy.

Because there's a flaw in that design, I'm not getting power unless i plug a Memory stick in there!!?
You'll need to post exactly how you have your wires soldered then since like I indicated in your photo, I have no problem at all. The MS Pro slot still works as normal and the switch works without any stick in there at all.
Are your wires round the right way? How are they connected to your switch?
I could do with those pictures, if you don't mind.
The ones indicating where to put the wires.
It seems the site hosting your originals has gone.
I've got everything working, except for a power supply.
And I would appreciate those pictures so I can finish up.
Thanks.

Does this Switch mod damage or weaken some part or motor inside the ps3.
may be for long run it might harm the motor.
I thinking about doing this switch mod. is there some one who's been using this for long period of time without any problem.
Also, does anybody know if this door is still open with firmware 2.53.
has anybody test on firmware 2.53.
Thanks guys

Does this mod damage the ps3 in any way? Is it obvious or make the ps3 look bad?

I've been using the mod since April of 2007 which is when i came up with the idea for this, and I haven't had a problem with anything. I sold the original model I did the mod on and just saw it again the other day. Still working great. I really like the other ideas everyone has come up with for stopping disc spinning and stopping the reading of the laser. Keep up the great work people. Can't play burned PS3 games, but at least we can with PS2 games. Sony could easily stop the loading i'm sure, but i personally don't think they care. especially now that most PS3's don't even support PS2 games.

i personally don't have a clue on that. nowadays i only mess with the 360 for obvious reasons. i was under the impression that the 80gb model did play ps2 game though, but yet again i could be wrong.
