Having received an official notification from 321 studios that they will no longer be selling their software with a ripper included I wondered what others thought about the recent court ruling that prevents 321 from selling any software that includes a ripper to remove the CSS copyright protection? I know many users have experienced problems, especially with Xpress copy, but I think 321 studios have stood up for the right for disc owners to legally make backup copies and obviously the fight is not over by a long chalk. The ruling does not prevent owners of the downloaded software from continuing to use it. 321 do have a reasonable customer service department too that does actually respond to emails. It might not be perfect but it is atleast something. I'm sure there are lots who think 321 are just out to make a large buck and why buy anyway when you can get good free rippers? What do you think?

I've never used, or been inclined to buy, DVDXCopy. Not surprising since I started backing up DVDs just days before it was initially released and I already had free tools that did everything I wanted. OTOH I'm a supporter of theirs simply because they had the balls to take a stand and put their money where their mouth is. Despite any other issues I might have with their company or their software, I hope they can continue to do well enough to at least continue their (probably futile) fight with the MPAA. It seems to be the best chance for fair use issues like this to get taken seriously by the general public, and that's the only real hope we have to protect our rights.

Like so many others I got into the burning scene with Xcopy and eventually found this wonderful site and the more flexible free tools to be had here.
I think Xcopy has a very valid place in the scheme of things because there are many people who just want an easy "one-click" program and buy Xcopy because of it's high profile in the market place. To me this has two benefits because the "one-click" crowd is happy and those who get into it more find the joys of the many freeware apps and really get into the burning scene and come to this community.
Although I don't ever use Xcopy anymore I'm still glad the money I spent went to a company with the balls to fight for what's right. I've read on other sites where people don't care because they don't like 321's software and are happy with the freeware apps but they are tragically shortsighted with that attitude because if this isn't reversed mpaa will force Nero's Recode, AnyDVD, Copy2DVD etc, etc off the market and then go after any website offering Decrypter, SmartRipper or Shrink. mpaa/riaa know no bounds and will go as far as they can with all this ridiculousness unless they are stopped cold.
Food for thought fellas!

321 Studios sponsors the following site:
protectfairuse.org
This site automates writing your congressional representatives to tell them to preserve your fair use rights. It couldn't be easier. It actually already has the letter written for you, although you can make modifications. You put in your zip code and it pulls up the names of your representatives and sends them an email. But it can't be an anonymous letter, so you need to provide your name and address. (Of course you're then put on the top of the FBI's investigation list for potential DMCA violators. . .just kidding. . .but you never know.)
It really is the easiest way to let your voice be heard. Anyone need a some US zip codes?

I have DVDXCopy Platinum and recieved the program as a gift. I did'nt like it at first, purely because of the 'warning' screen and the Product Activation. I have found the software reliable and stable but I realise that many have not had the same experience.
On the subject of sympathy. My feeling is more one of respect for 321 and Bob Moore. Takes a lot of money and a ton of guts to stand up to these MPAA maggotts. If justice is done, and I don't expect it to be, I pray 321 will be able to sue MPAA's stones off.
KaZaa the same. Judges need to uphold the rights of the populace and not one organisation. A reader of all the posts on different forums and threads on this subject could be excused for surmising that the MPAA has made some heavy donations to Political Parties and some Judges Benefits Fund.

I think they are out for the big buck...I should have received my 30 rebate a month ago and they keep wanting me to trade it for some dumb programs...If I call they just say its coming soon...I havent even used the program but 5 times at 150 big ones when I got shrink for free and Nero was free also...and I enjoy using them over watching the backup intro on all my first 5 backups....321 need a reality check!!!

I support 321 and DVDxCopy. I have purchased the platinum version just because. Their "one-click" program is very easy to use and it works! Don't you want MOST people to be able to make backups of purchased DVD's?! I do. Most people ARE NOT as savvy as us. They cannot copy DVD's without ONE (1) simple program. I know we can all copy DVD's using DVD Shrink (and others) but MOST people cannot! Give kudos? to 321 for allowing the normal public to purchase a DVD copy program! I love DVD Shrink too but DVDxCopy is for the normal public who cannot make backups of their DVD's without simple help! For all you people complaining about the 321's information screen on your copied DVD's, please remember it's there for legal purposes as it's a purchased program! For all you people loving DVD Shrink (and others, as I do), have you contributed to the author of the software?! Bone up and contribute!

Been using Xpress since the first version. I just want it simple. Period. Don't care if it does this or that, just copy my original before the kids destroy the original. Paid for it because they stood behind their product, it was simple and it worked. Hope they continue the fight.
Since the court order, I will look at other programs as I do not wish to violate any court order.
More of us out there than you ;-)

I purchased DVD X Copy XPress, the cost was negligible compared to the Rip Off DVD prices, and 321 deserved support for taking on the money grabbing greedy film industry.
Who, having made a killing with the film, want more and more from cheaply produced Dvds, selling them at extortionate prices, do not people realize that they are being robbed blind.

Nope , none !! :D
Never used it myself - as why use resrictive software , especially when there's better available...AND for free ! lol
[Only ppl I feel for are those that are getting messed about with a refund , there shouldnt be any question over a refund even if it is 20% light , 20% is the usual for 're-stocking shelf'...as they call it]

I bought Xcopy long ago and have had almost perfect results with it maybe one or two issues but i do like the control you have with DvD Shrink guess loving to restore old cars i kinda have the tinkering blood in my veins. But I switch back and forth when i burn never did like to take the same route home.

I can't get it to work with v.403. Between my burn sequence when I search for the file, there is no IFO file in the Video_TS folder. I think it was a VFO or something like that. Any ideas?

I would have to disagree with this. 321 is just out there for the money, they are not looking out for anyone but themselves. Notice how easily you got the software to do the same thing even better for free and they make users pay for it. I mean how hard is to write an .exe the goes dvd-decrypter, DVD2One and then uses Nero to burn. Then sell the software for 199$.
BTW What up herbsman!
