I have tried to make backups of some of my dvd-9s using dvdxcopy xpress. The software says the copies are successful, and they play fine up until the last few chapters. Then they start skipping like a music cd...they pause, and then after a few seconds they start again, and this goes on and on. I am playing them on a Toshiba SD-3900, using imation blank dvds (4.7 gig capacity), and burning them with a Sony DRU350a. All my other burned movies have worked fine if I burn them on two discs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

All the classic signs of cheap media. What brand media have you been using?

I agree , it does sound like cheap/poor media (especially if f/w is up to date).

I have used Imation discs before without any problems so far. I know for a fact that some Imation DVD+R are manufactured by Ricoh which have a good track record. However, there are Imation DVD+R discs manufactured by CMC whose reputation is through the floor. There is a nice free utility out there called DVD Identifier that tells you who the manufacturer of your DVDs are.

Also check out this website http://www.dvdrhelp.com that has a section dedicated to DVD media and has comments from everyday users.

Hope this helps.

yes i agree with bad media! but! i have heard if you try to get dvd9 (whole thing) it squashes last bit of info on dvdr's so try to set the limit back from say 4.36gig to fill 4.25 gig (dont use end of dvdr!) it has worked for my mate! cheepo discs too!

Thx...

Check toshibas website. I have a toshiba player and have been using memorex dvd+r for about 8 backups (kinda new here) and have lately been running into problem so I checked and sad to say but toshiba doesn't support dvd+r so you may wanna switch to dvd-r. Just a thought, but hey I'm not pro here.

hi there

i had my first skipping today with MATRIX 3

now its the first time i got this BUT! its very rare i keep menus and all from the disc! i usally only keep main movie! i was having a play with compressing at different ratios full compression for menus/extras and thats to keep main moive high quailty!

now i use shrink and Nero combo! and extras freeze! and very end of main moive stutters!

also the RIPPED vobs etc are fine and all work fine!

so either bad disc? (bulqpaq ornage gen 4) or it didnt like squasd bit at end of moive so i will decrease the size in shrink from 4464 to 4444! also extras fully compressed dont like it! menus work fine though fully compressed!

Hope this info helps for future?

Thx...

Rotary,

Have you ever tried using DVDStripper to get rid of the extras competely while keeping your menu structure? Give it a try.

I did Matrix 3 as Movie-Only w/ DVD2One , set at 4450mb ... video quality is excellent (no skipping as I used RiDisc 'Ritek G04' x4 DVD-R).

I also have some Bulkcrap Orange but only use 'em for data or PS2 games normally ;-)

hi there,

Lets clarify my end!

yesterday i had a bad disc! it was matrix 3 revolutions! but i must admit it was the first time i kept menus/extras and shrank the whole disc! 6/7gig worth! what i get is skipping and stops! at very end of disc! i did shrink menus/extras to the MAX! the film i left auto! never had skipping on main moive only i might add! (less compression?)

also extras didnt play at all!!!!!!

but menus work fine! (UM? food for thought there, shrink menus full but not extras to full!)

ok i use Nero v5.x.x.48 (nero v6 all versions suck pants for me!)

Media is bulqpaq orange GEN 4 never had a problem either! till this disc! (um maybe shrink 3.1.7 ???)

i didnt use Nero engine via shrink to burn, i just made vobs then opened Nero separate! (although i have done!) but this is the only shrink 3.1.7 i have done only 2 discs! second one sucks! first was main moive (love actually) and was fine!

i tried the vobs that come from the shrink process as i still have them and as a VOB on the pc the end film part is fine/perfect! so could be bad disc or bad Nero burn???

to help stop the end burn problem i have backed the setting in shrink from 4464 to 4444 so it now wont use the end part of disc! as i have heard from a mate this stops his problems!!!

hope some of this is usefull!

aslo could use TMPGEnc DVD author to burn! i love that proggy as it makes menus and can make vobs/ifo/bup etc... from mpeg2!

easy to use!!!

moral to the story if main movie ues BULKCRAP ornage! if you going for all 6/7/8 gig worth get down the shops and spend some hard erned!

Hey herbsman! what do you recommend for price/quality burn media?????

thx...

Price : £14.50 for 25 pack
