I am hoping for help. I have been reading the posts in this forum searching for answers. I have been running DVD X Copy and DVD 43 for the last year problem free, until today. After reading all the discussions in this forum, I guess I need to uninstall DVD 43 and download ripit4me.

Do I need to uninstall DVD 43 before I download ripit4me? Should I download all of the 4 suggested software to go with the ripit4me, or can I still use DVD X Copy? Should I uninstall XCopy as well? Will it interfere with the new software I am going to download?

I am a novice looking for support from the gracious members of this forum who take their time to help computer idiots like myself. Any thoughts ot help will be appreciated!!

Thanks!

yes uninstall DVD43 run CCleaner do a disc cleanup and defrag and reboot. now your ready to install "RipIt4Me" (which is on the first page of this thread along with guides).and yes install everything that works with/along "RipIt4Me" you shouldn't have to uninstall DVD X Copy BUT thats a way of of date program that will only work on older movies so thats up to you. you will not need x copy in any way shape or form to use "RitIt4Me" it has nothing to do with the program.

remember to use good blank media (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim) burning no faster than 8x on a clean machine with up to date firmware on your drive/burner, good luck

you can get CCleaner here

http://www.ccleaner.com/

to delete your temp folders right click and delete

ok first run CCleaner then do a disc cleanup. this is how click start ,click my computer right click your harddrive (should be labeled C drive) go to properties click that a box will popup then click "Disc Cleanup"

from there to defrag click tools a box will popup then click "Defragment Now...)

you really need to learn how to do keep your PC clean this is basic stuff everyone with a PC needs to know

I have downloaded the ripit4me file and the the fixvts file. I'm confused as to how to install these. I want to put them on my D drive as my C does not have enough memory. Do I create a folder in D then move the ripitforme to that folder and unzip it. Then what do I do with the fixitvts to install it. I was also confused on the subfolder creation. Is that created in the same folder as ripit4me and then put a subfolder under that marked VIDEO_VS. Please let me know as I am very interested in trying this. Also, can I use ICopyDVD2 to burn this after. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for the help aabbccdd. I have successfully done what you told me to and installed all the necessary software. I am happy to report, I have ripped my first DVD. It took about an hour and 1/2 start to finish. Is that about right? I did the full DVD mode. If I switch it movie & menus will I still get everything I need? How much time does that cut out? I gotta give props to arniebear too. I followed his guide to a T and even a computer dummy like me had success! You guys are great and I do REALLY appreciate your help!! So, now that you know what a computer illeterate I am, how often should I be defragging my computer? Will I need to run that ccleaner again ever?

Thanks,
Angie

@cardsfan4

Glad it worked for you. If you do movie + menu that is what you will get, the movie and the menu, no extras or previews. If you just want the movie only, then choose that, or movie with the menu or the full DVD for everything. The amount of time you save with movie only or Movie + menu is about 5 minutes a rip. Ripping is dependent on your DVD reader speed and whether disk is dual layer or single layer and the amount of dummy sectors that need to be inserted for a heavily protected movie. So the amount of time varies.

As for running ccleaner, I do my reg cleaner about every 10 days, I just like to be tidy. It is up to you :)

@mrtod43

I have never tried to put RipIt4Me on any other drive than C: so I do not know how the program will react. Both RipIt4Me and FixVTS are very small programs and do not take up much HDD space, do not confuse Memory with HDD space. If you mean you do not have the space for the ripped movie then you have the option to change your target source to another drive this should give you sufficient space. Better yet if you can possibly clean some space of your HDD for DVD Shrink that would make things easier. You need a minimum of 15g's to have it operate correctly. But you can direct it to work from another drive.

Yes I run my reg cleaner and defrag and do spyware and virus scan. It helps to keep your computer clean, keeps it running optimally :)

One more question. After I already have a movie on my C drive, can I make an additional backup of it from the info I already have, or do I have to go through the whole process again? If I can, how? Am I supossed to be deleting the files after each rip, or can I keep them on my C drive?

You can delete your file or keep it, whatever you want. If you have compressed your file with DVD Shrink, then keep the compressed file and you can make as many backups of it as you want and delete the ripped file.

several ways you can do that . you can right click the file and open a program to burn , or open Nero Burning Rom click the folder in the upper left hand corner find the file and burn . remember to rename the file so its easy to find.

also you might check your drive to make sure its in DMA mode and not in PIO mode that will help your times transcoding and burning ,you can check that in device manager or use this guide

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/FAQ.htm or

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

i defrag once or twice a week depending on how many dvds i backup/burn . and i run CCleaner right before i shut down my machine

What burning engines do you have?

If your VIDEO_TS file or ISO image is already transcoded by DVD Shrink to fit onto a 4.7GB DVD-R or DVD+R disc and was saved in your hard drive. Then yes you can burn them as many backups as you desire.

Below are 2 burning guides, Nero is for VIDEO_TS file and ImgBurn is for ISO image file. The choice is yours.

<<< Burning the VIDEO_TS file with Nero Burning Rom >>>

NOTE: guide is for MONSTER HOUSE

NOTE: make sure you have a high quality media inside your burner ready.

<<<Burning the ISO image with ImgBurn "The Ultimate Image Burner">>>

NOTE: guide is for THE FAST & THE FURIOUS TOKYO DRIFT

Now insert a high quality blank into your DVD burner. I recommend Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Maxell (Made In Japan)

Enjoy it!!

I need help!

I have been trying to rip The Break-Up and Click all day. I couldn't do it with DVD Shrink the way I normally do so i downloaded RipIt4Me and FixVTS. I followed all the instructions in this forum and it works fine until a few minutes into DVD Decrypter the read rate goes to 0(zero) when it is working in VTS_01_1.IFO and after about 20 minutes of no progress what so ever I abort and restart. I have tried both 1-click and wizard mode. Please let me know what I am missing. Are these DVD's just too protected?? Or am I being too impatient, will it eventually start back up?

Frustrated!

@spdvd1882 - bearing in mind this is a ripit4me guide/thread, for me The Break-Up needed DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.3.7 Beta as 3.0.3.5 couldn't do it without causing DVD Shrink to crap out.
