Re: error msg: (7,'getaddrinfo failed) , on this forum regarding bittorrent downloading problems. Here's my deal quickly, and if anyone can help, or throw any suggestions my way, I'd greatly appreciate it. Either reply here, or if you could e-mail me at zadikow@hotmail.com , I'd greatly appreciate it. OK, I've been using bittorrent for several months, no problems. This error msg just started with me a week ago, and it's constant. It's happening to me on at least 3 different web sites. It's definitely not a case of "the tracker is busy", it's a problem with my system. I've tried a system restore, 2 virus scans, I've been doing google searches, I've been sending out msg's and e-mails, all to no avail. (By the way, I also don't think this is a bittorrent issue, I think it's a p2p downloading issue, but I could be wrong). Things I have not tried yet are resetting my ip address, changing my proxy settings (which in my case,I don't think apply anyway), I haven't messed with the registry. Oh yeah, one other point, which I don't know if it's directly related, or just a strange coincidence. But around the same time that this started, I did get a couple of "error" msgs, something to the effect: your computer detected an ip address conflict, your ip address is being ... ... (sorry, I don't remember the rest). If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks, Ira Z

Hi everybody,

Could someone kindly help me out? WHy does my download stop downloading at 99.9% and it continues to upload only?

I mean, why can't the download keep going until 100% when it is only 0.1% far away?

Please help, and many thanks in advance.

For VERY FAST downloads on Bit Torrent, try using the client PTC.

If you cap your uploads at 2k/s it seems to speed up your download to about 40-60k/s (I've got 512k broadband with NTL)

Worth a try.

Melix I'm not sure why you want to change a torrent file extension - the torrent file itself won't change to AVI or mpeg.
The torrent file (usually 30k or thereabouts) is just like a shortcut, to tell your torrent client where to find the target file (the target file will be your AVI or mpeg).

The thing with torrents is that the AVI or mpeg will be no use until 100% complete since the parts arrive in no particular order.

What client are you using? I recommend PTC which can be found via Google.

Just posting this as you've mentioned PeerGuardian. ;)

We're currently in beta-testing on PeerGuardian 2...

(it does UDP and all other protocols, works at kernel-level with near-0%-CPU. It also doesn't require you to install drivers, etc. and so far.. seems to work on 64-bit platforms too.)

We've also got a version for Linux and we're in development of a version for Mac. For more info.. http://methlabs.org.

hi, i've been reading about the problem with suprnova.org here on the thread and i just wanted to know what it was. I'm home for the summer now, but in college i have a 100mbit connection and ive downloaded at over 1 mb/s on some files. ive tried it here at home where my download speed should be at around 25-30 kb/s but it doesnt work. Also, i get a major system slowdown when a torrent has been running for more than 5 or 6 hours or if i have more than 8 or 9 open for more than an hour. im running a laptop with p4 at 2.8, 80 gig hdd, and 512 ram. i even leave it there without ruuning anything else and try to shut down background programs and it still happens. any ideas or suggestions? ive had to resort to ares and other cr@ppy programs since kazaa-lite went under.

I had the same problem. Try switching your app to another one. It took many apps for me to try b4 i finally found one that worked without using a lot of resources. I use Azureus and it works great.
Good Luck!!!

Actually you can download with out uploading, depending on the type ot bit client you have. And you can also limit the number of connections as well or limit the number that you upload too as well. For most bit clients the ports are in the range of 6881-6889 that need to be opened through your firewall or router to get the best performance; but some even alow you to change these ports as well. I can reach speeds of over 100kb/s with mine, heh.

Heh, I am a Dragon what else can I say.

WHAT THE HELL DO U THINK U GET FROM TORRENT SITES?

As a person who has been pulled for talking about piracy then I think u are all a bunch of hypocrites!!

I just got 3 linux distros as torrents. What a difference. I remember getting 25-30k/sec from hosting sites...getting 300-400k/sec now. wicked!! More legit files should be offered on torrents, wonder if there will ever be a 'secure' implementation that online stores could use lol.

Anyways. Off to install *nix on my new machine

Hey, I just started using BitTornado, and my light is always yellow, and i hav cable....So basically i cant dl at more than a rate of 5kb/s so im gettin pissed of at my brand new computer, which isnt rite...I hav a router, but its not hooked up. And Ive disabled my firewall, pretty much. I hear ppl talkin bout opening ports 6881-6991(or wutever the fuj it is...) and i hav absolutely no clu wat that is. So i would apprecitae anyones help, even if all u did was reply to my message like this: Well, Whaler, i think u are just fukin stupid and u should go screw urself. So, if ne1 would be kind enough, i would appreciate it beyond belief.

Sincerely.

Your moms friend.
