I'm in the process of downloading a season of a tv show. The torrent file downloaded in about a day, it was about 1600 MB, now that file made a folder w/ 13 files in it, all 0 KB, which are downloading. This is supposed to take another 58 hours. Is this what is supposed to happen? I assumed that the 1600 MB would contain all the episodes that could be extracted. Did I do something incorrectly or is this what is supposed to happen?

I'll throw in something here.
The .torrent file isn't 1600Megs, its a few kB. That loads a tracker which then downloads the 1600, which would take the 53hrs, and contain the episodes that you want.

If the .torrent file is only a few KB, why did it take so long to download?

define so long.
The main episodes I would see as being a few gigs, hence the 58 or so hours

jb123987: the torrent file itself doesnt take too long to download.... it the "other" files that are associated with that torrent :)

Been using bit torrent for a@ a year with no problems until now. Just got an email from my ISP, I guess the MPAA (motion picture association of america)monitors bit torrent severely. They got me while downloading an episode of the Practice I missed.
Now I have to someohow prove that I have dispsed of the copyrighted material and a bunch of other crap or my account is going to be cancelled. Is there a way to give to the bit torrent community and not be sued by the RIAA/MPAA????

hi callmemo

i had exactly the same problems dont worry your IP wont cancel your account, but will block your IP address from accessing the site, so you need to change your ip address, and then reinstall the torentt i was told to get peergardian which works a treat, it helps stop them spying and that will stop the emails

Does anybody know how do I get my ip address changed. Since I got that email from my isp saying the mpaa caught me downloading a tv show, I have been blocked from accesing suprnova.org, the page comes up but the torrent listings and the categories they are in don't show up. My ip address is set to obtain automatically, assigned from them, I can't just change it in my tcp/ip option in my local connection properties. Do you know what I can do? Any help is much appreciated.

That's probably just Suprnova. It happens a lot. Try a mirror site. Do a google search for Suprnova and try all the results, you will get a site that is working. Your ISP can't block you from going on any site you want to. That would be like a cable tv company saying you could only watch certain channels, after you had paid for them all.

well i WAS blocked from downloading anything from supernova i could access the site but when i clicked on anything to download, the box that comes up before it asks you where you would like to store the file, well that used to be on for hours instead of like seconds... i asked my IP and they confirmed that it was my address that was blocked but not by themselfs but by a 3rd party a simple change of IP address was all i needed to do

I think they are taking the p*ss m8. Have you tried a mirror site? What 3rd party would be going around doing that unless it was Suprnova themselves. If you have been downloading a file and then switching off as soon as you get it, then other BT users can block your IP, as you are then considered to be a hit and run merchant, who doesn't contribute to the BT community.

ofcause i tried a mirror site im not here to argue with ya im just telling what happend and what i had to do, i couldnt download anything for weeks and i tried every day, soon as i changed my ip address,. i could download instantly no more problems...
and i upload more than i download so that wasnt the problem either...

i didnt ask who the 3rd party was, who was involved i recived emails from symantc, culombia tristar, disney, etc all asking my IP to cease my contract or stop me accessing such sites the next day i couldnt download off suprnova anymore.. coincidence i dont think so

mrmont, I would kick up hell with your ISP, they can't mess with your account without telling you. If they block your new addy, try downloading through a proxy server. I know it will slow you down but at least it will let you download.

Did your ISP do that for you or do you have to pay for another one from them?

Okay...I'm a newb to this forum I know..dont barbeque me too bad :-)

I am looking for some help with my bit torrent download problem.

I have windows ME, no firewall, no proxies, no filtering software, have AVG antivirus 7.0, I'm using IE 5.5, and connect with a dialup connection.

I cannot seem to download bit torrent files. I downloaded the actual bit torrent program and when I tried to download a file I got error "Problem connecting with tracker - (10060, 'Operation timed out')"..So I tried clearing cache on pc, restarted pc, dialed back up to the internet, tried again, same message. I thought perhaps it was the tracker..so I tried some other trackers on a variety of different sites (suprnova.org,torrentreactor.com,etc..), EVERYTHING I tried to download did the same thing.

So I tried a different client. Downloaded Shadow's Bit Torrent software, when I tried to download files with it I was having the same problem, got some error saying there was a problem with getting response info...the program suggested clearing temp files, and right clicking on the file and selecting "save target as" and opening it that way..So I did, got a message saying "urlopen error - (7, 'getaddrinfo failed')".

I went into task manager and clicked "end task" on anything related to AVG..this did not help.

Any suggestions...

You have to let it stay open. If you leave the thing open it will eventually connect to a tracker. I figured that out the hard way too.

There are a lot of people talking trash about torrents, but I have been using them for a while, and they are a million times better than Kazaa or any of the other dl places. I have dled a lot of things, and I have NEVER gotten a bad dl. It does seem to take a little bit longer, but I am connected on DSL and always connected, so I just leave it on all the time in the back ground and it doesn't bother me. The best site I have found thus far is
http://www.suprnova.org/
It has anything you could want. You should deffinitely check it out.

But anyway, just let the download go, and it will eventually pick up a tracker...and the download will probably take a day or so, but it is a lot better than Kazaa in my opinion.

I have taken the time to learn irc, and no it was not worth it. I got nothing but the same thing I got on Kazaa, broken downloads, but this time, I got a bunch of retards in a chat room to get it from. It was a complete waste of time. I totally suggest sticking with Torrents, If you guys have any questions about them, feel free to leave messages here and I will be glad to let you in on whatever knowledge I have on the subject.

I am getting a similar tracker error, but i don't think mine will fix by keeping it open:

Problem connecting to tracker - <urlopen error(7, 'getaddrinfo failed')>

I have had this happen a few times with torrents from completely different websites. What does it mean and how do I fix it?

Hi All, I am using "BitTorrent T-0.2.0 (BitTornado)" and my download speed is stuck at 10k even though I have a 768k connection. I have opened TCP ports 6881-6999, but I still have a yellow icon in the upper left. Any ideas? Thanks!
