That's very similar to my idea but I am using 4 10k ohm resistors and it seems to be working. :) As yours is also a good idea and with less involved I may try this also on a poop ps2 that I have. Thanks much for the post.

I'm guessing maybe the DVD part of the BRD is controlled by another of those chips on the board, but still it would be cheaper to buy just the chip and change it than to replace the whole board.

I'm really thinking about going to a Sony technical support store here in my town, but I'd have to remove any trace that I tried to mod my PS3, or at least give them a really good excuse...
Brazilguy,
the LA 6508 is on the other side of that board and it's very easy to locate; you can see it's layout here:
http://www.yatego.com/modcomshop/p,45005...-für-ps2-v9-v10
Just detach the flat cables and unscrew the board to find it.

I had your same problem, after few days of swapping my dvd is dead...
But I'm not sure to be able to substitute the LA 6508, because pins are very small (and we are not really sure that the damage is there).
Let me know if you get some result!

2 questions guys:

In the case of the 3 switchs mod, can anyone explain precisely the purpose of putting a switch on one of the original wires of the motor? I understand why a switch is needed for the sensor, but on the original motor's wire, i don't get it.

Also can someone test if "metal gear solid2 demo" ps2 cd is a good original to boot ps2 cd backups? (it comes with Zone of enders as bonus disc)

Thanks,

You need the sensor to power the motor again so you have to hook up
both the swap switch power and original wires to the motor.

Why you need the switch? I think possibly to prevent current from
flowing to the ps3 when you use the swap switch.

Maybe using diodes are better than having this extra switch?
It would be nice to limit the switches.

If any1 is interested, new triple-write Blu-ray burners are available
for $299 now.

Hi everybody,
I realized a '3 switch mod' using the plugs shown in the above layout (they are plugs with switch, used usually for head sets).

When you unplug the jacks the PS3 works in the original way so you can press 'eject' to unload the disk and use the sensor to load it.

The mod worked fine for some day but unfotunately I burned my DVD driver probably because I used the switch while the disk was spinning.

Now my question is: is it safe to use the above layout and Swap Magic in the following way:
1) unplug all and load Swap Magic without mod
2) when Swap Magic ask you to swap the disk (and probably stops the disk) plug in the jacks
3) eject the Swap Magic disk and load the backup disk using the mod
4) unplug all and ... play
5) unload using the 'eject' key

Thank you,
Roberto

Oh you're right if the motor is supposed to be inactive, and you use the 3switch, since both the switch and original wires are connected, current could go to the ps3 mobo when it doesn't expect it and i guess could hurt stuffs, thanks for clearing that up.

Roby, all the question is : does it stop spinning or not.
If it does, the win, you don't need to wait 5 minutes,
if not, it'll be just the same as booting with an original game.
Maybe try to open your PS3 to make sure or can anyone check maybe? Supra, vaan?

Yeah u got a point. Everysince i've heard about that 5minute thing, i've been following it. But i sit there and thing to myself does it really stop spinning? What i do is wait for the screen to go dark and switch. longer then 5 mins, maybe 6 tops.

On my PS2 Swap Magic stops the disk before asking to swap, I imagine that when PS3 goes in PS2 mode it emulates this feature too. But I'm not sure because my PS3 dvd doesn't work!...
Can somebody with a working PS3 and Swap Magic just start it and 'hear' if the disk stops when the user is prompted?

Thanks,
Roby

After thinking some more I don't think it matters if it stops or not because we're not even booting the disc, as the swap occurs under the XMB where no code has been executed, just authentication.

I think what he is implying is to use swap magic so that the disk
will stop spinning and make it safe to do the eject/switch method.

I would like to know too, it maybe worth it to buy swapmagic if
the dvd drive stops spinning right away. Anyone know or can try??

I heard some version of Swap Magic is blocked by firmware on ps3,
not sure which version will run.

BrazilGuy,
I think you have a different version of the chip.
Yours starts with BA, maybe a new version?

check out this site for parts.

So could anyone with the PS3 open check if Swap Magic stops the disc/laser when it asks to replace the disk?

Also, i still need the info if Metal Gear Solid 2 demo from ZOE bundle is a good PS2 swap CD.

Thanks in advance,

I think so, but you best ask the online store link above to be sure.
The chip controls the laser movement for dvd players from what
I've read.

I did 3 switch mod, and mod is working fine. I have a question though.

when PS3 is off, i turn off the sensor, whether the motor switch is automatic or manual, whenever i turn on sensor, PS3 starts. is it cuz ps3 thinks there is a disc trying to come in or get out? and is it bad?
