Yes Supra, the problem is I can't find the LA 6508 chip samhung mentioned anywhere. That's the same chip used in the PS2 from what I've researched on google, so it would be relatively easy for me to find it here in Brazil.

I'm guessing maybe the DVD part of the BRD is controlled by another of those chips on the board, but still it would be cheaper to buy just the chip and change it than to replace the whole board.

I'm really thinking about going to a Sony technical support store here in my town, but I'd have to remove any trace that I tried to mod my PS3, or at least give them a really good excuse...

Oh you're right if the motor is supposed to be inactive, and you use the 3switch, since both the switch and original wires are connected, current could go to the ps3 mobo when it doesn't expect it and i guess could hurt stuffs, thanks for clearing that up.

Roby, all the question is : does it stop spinning or not.
If it does, the win, you don't need to wait 5 minutes,
if not, it'll be just the same as booting with an original game.
Maybe try to open your PS3 to make sure or can anyone check maybe? Supra, vaan?

Just detach the flat cables and unscrew the board to find it.

I had your same problem, after few days of swapping my dvd is dead...
But I'm not sure to be able to substitute the LA 6508, because pins are very small (and we are not really sure that the damage is there).
