the freezer pro cant be fitted normaly to a p5nesli with-out modding the fan mount or the nb. the fan mount is 5mm to wide and hits on the top of the nb hs. if you dont mod one or the other you can only atain about a 20% contact between the cpu and freezer pro base.

these guys are making cpu hs that puts the heat pipes in contact with the cpu cover, which has to aid the thermal transfer. the xps-964 looks like it can move alot of heat to me but i have yet to see any real benchmarks to compare to the tt120 and other leading blowers. i have not seen the on sale yet too :(

I also have the quiet philosophy, but go for as many fans as possible. Two slow fans are quieter than one fast one!
3600rpm 80mm fans? That's some real screaming potential you've got right there, to put it into perspective, Delta make fans that speed in the 80mm range.

i can overclock my cpu by 10% which will bring it to 2.20. atm i have it at 5% at 2.10.?? if i try to go to 2.30 it wont boot .. why ? .will i ever be able to overclock more than 10%?.and i do use the onboard graphics....if that makes a difference

10%'s reasonable for an X2 using the stock cooler, I could only get 9% out of mine. Depends on the board and memory. That's not a top board for overclocking, so I reckon if you play with the voltages a bit you may crack 15% but that'd be about it. Our overclocks are higher because we use Core 2 Duos, they're just better for it. A 2Ghz X2 is still not exactly slow though.

As I said, Gina installed hers while I was on the phone with her and no mod was needed. I can assure you that with the temps she's getting I'm quite sure it's mounted properly.

I have a similar BioStar T-Force 6100 MB and on the board graphics limit it to about a 10-12% OC. Motherboards with on board graphics usually have some limitations even when using the PCIe 16x slot because of Chipset limitations, usually affecting the addressable amount of memory. I have my A64 4000+ overclocked 300MHz to 2.7GHz. Any more than that and it won't boot!
Not a very good MB for overclocking as it lacks adjustments in the setup for CPU voltage and memory voltage. The memory voltage could be a real problem because it is fixed at 1.9v which would eliminate a lot of memory modules that need more volts. There are also known problems with the chipsets getting hot and causing problems.

If I'm doing the conversion correctly, QX6600 = $413.12. A good indication of where prices are heading I hope. Thats quite a bit cheaper than Newegg's price of $480.00.

Probably not very much. The limiting factor will be the lack of adjustments in the bios setup. The 1.9v limit on the memory voltage will hurt as well. There are a lot of DDR2 modules out there that require 2.0 or 2.1v just to boot past the setup. If you can't match the memory voltage, chances are it won't. Depending on where you bought it, you may be able to do an exchange for a better MB, but if you want to OC, stay away from on-board graphics and make sure the necessary settings are available in the bios setup before you buy.

Hi Sam,
I don't mind the £, it's just the VAT that would take a bit to get used to. Seems a bit excessive, but what do I know about British tax laws?
Is this in lieu of an income tax like we have in the US?

Well, everything we buy, the government get a 17.5% share of whatever you paid. That's obviously end users and businesses though. Food items for example are tax exempt, and children's clothes I think.

OCZ PowerStream 550w I noticed this as I lost a 550W PowerStream and it was replaced with a 600w GamerxTreme and it is below level on the 5v & 3.3v but fair on the dual 12v (usually 3.28 & 4.92 as read by Everest & PC Probe II, 12.12v)
I baught the PowerStream new for this A8N-SLI when new to replace a 500w seasonic 12 something (will look up if needed). I know the A8N is a energy sucker cause I had to lessen the volt mod settings when testing on !975 mobos like Abit Fatality and regular P5WDG2-WS old test bed. I get no vlot adjustment on the GamerxTream so wonder if this is gonna be an issue at same OC as before.
I also have to question the A8N-SLI Premium as this is the 3rd type of component failure during the last 2 yrs. (1 RAM stick, 2 PSU's) Yet, in both case, the CPU and came out fine, thankx to the ASUS built in circut protection. It really does work.
Any of you guys have experience with either of these parts?

I know of several people on another forum that use this MB. None have reported any problems with them. Some were Venice single cores and most of the others were Toledos. A couple of Opteron 175s as well. Most were overclocked a good bit! No one ever reported any problems.

Well, like I said, It's really only a question. I too have had nothing bad to sa bout this modle either. As mentioned in other sites, I had this OC'd pretty high since day 2 and gone through 2 CPU's (upgraded to x2 4400 (89w) from 1st 3800 San Diago)
Whixh brings me to the other question, HTT over 1000MHz. On my AM2 OC, I'm told so many times my HTT was too high. Yet my nF4 ran solid at 1200 or so at different settings.
Any AMD overclcokers here to shed some light on that? I really only baught into them 2 yrs bk cause I was not too happy w/ my performances on the D840 and D950 for the money spent. Going back to OC on a budget, I did get a set D805's for a family member and myself and they OC'd far for the price to 4.1GHz on air (the Zalman 9500 at the time. Same for the lil' P4 506. The 805 liked the 1:2 CPU:RAM to DDR800 @ 3-3-3-8.

E4300 V/S E6300
One more favor, help me help a friend pick. He is reading this forum w/ me and ses a lot of you guys favoring the E4300 for OC on a budget but I also started w/ the E6300 and was excited for it's high bandwidth potential.
Has any of you tested both early revisions to compare scores (or real world performance)?
Can we give some reasons for choosing and cool results of either? I'll start by adding that the beter batched 63's have a potential of hitting over 500 FSB so if on the wrong mobo, this wont matter anymore as the 6300 can easily exceed the limit of most medium mobos I chose the high end mobo and budget OC'r when new and it was cool to really be ably to challange my mobos, both my then P5B and P5W-DH. My then P5WDG2-WS hit a wall at 450FSB at any multi.

I hear the E4300 is a guaranteed 3Ghz pretty much, not sure that the same's true of the 6300. Either way, it's certainly no worse, and it's cheaper isn't it?

What high bandwidth potential? I get a memory bandwidth of over 6700 with my E4300. It's even higher (7200+) at 4-4-4-12 but I'm not into pushing the voltage for my memory and I won't raise my CPU volts above 1.392v. Here's my memory bandwidth at 3.276GHz, memory speed 910MHz and 5-4-4-12 timings! 2x1GB G.Skill cas4 PC6400!
It also runs cooler than most E6300s and easily OC's to over 3.0GHz on a decent MB. When I built Gina's, it also ran very cool at 3.0GHz with the stock Intel cooler, and that's in a non airconditioned room! She reports temps in the very low 30's for hers on an Asus P5N-E with an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro.
I considered the 6300 at first till I did a little research and discovered that the 4300 gave you more bang for the buck!
