Isnt it ironic that the title of this thread is .BIN / .CUE / .ISO Frequently asked questions. READ1ST . Notice the emphasis on READ1ST. Yet this is one of the longest running threads of the most frequently asked questions being asked over and over and over. Have we become so lazy with pointing and clicking that we dont even bother to read anymore? haha ;).

Hehe you hit dead on! Well i dont think it suchs a big deal here in this thread if ppl ask the same stuff over and over again (at least not with me). But it becomes kinda aggravating when people strart new posts on what is already answered here.
i guess its down to be people wanting answers now and not willing to do any work get them (i.e., search).

Hey praetor i admire your patience and honesty. It just makes me laugh when you answer someones post and right after your post someone is asking about exactly what you just explained, it boggles the mind haha ;).

Hehe i think the reasoning is that they think that their question and situationis utterly unique and in some cases this is true. For the majority of the time however, its probably because people would prefer a custom-tailored response rather than trying to make sense of a response to someone else's question. Doesnt make a difference to me really hehe... I've written a few automated response programs... you have NO idea how many identical responses there are out there :P
JediDuron:
Some possibilities to check out:
- Name it to TAR, RAR, and ZIP and play with WinRAR
- Name it to ISO, BIN and try to open with ISOBuster (I would normally suggest CDMage but it has issues with unknown image-types). If it works with ISOBuster, open it with CDMage using the RAW format (very last entry in the dropdown box), this allows you to create a CUE for the file also.

hey preator its me again...
im having trouble with buring .rar files
preator:
"RAR files need to be extracted before anything useful can be done. Usually cd images are RAR archived (sometimes nested-archives too). So to get a useful file out of a RAR (or a bunch of them), grab WinRAR and extract the *.RAR file (if you have a bunch of 001,002,003... files, use the 001 file, i.e, the lowest one, drag-and-drop it into WinRAR and extract from there... the remaining files will autotmatically be located and such)."
I have extracted them but i don't know what to do with them...
i also have a .nfo and a .sfv file included with the 001,002,003....files
how do i burn all these files?
can i use Nero?
thx

If you have extrcted them and still have more 001 002 003 files then that means you need to extract them again. Keep extracting till you get what you are looking for. Manually open the 001 file (if you dont have a RAR) file with WinRAR and extract by just dragging the file out of WinRAR

I have a BIN (and CUE) file witch i can burn but as a result i always get a blank Disc or/and an unreadable Disc.
When i try to open the BIN or CUE file with CDmage i get "File length doesnt match sector boundary."
Or when i try to use "Raw Image": "Image type is different than assumed. Please select another type."
What mistake have i made since i already burned
a lot of Images and never get such an error.
Can someone help me?

1. Open the file up in ISOBuster. If it fails to open in ISOBuster then that file is worthless. Do not pass and goto Step 2
2. Try thse combinations in CDMage:
- Mode 1/2352
- Mode 2/2352 (<< this is the only option for (S)VCDs so if this doesnt work...)
- RAW (using CDROM)
- RAW (using AUDIO)
- RAW (using MIXEDMODE)
- RAW (using VIDEO)
3. You say you have the CUE file.... post the contents of this file and I can better answer ya. :-)

guys ive read all the pages on this thread and ive seen a question similar to mine, but i dont think it was answered. So help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
I have a cue and bin file for this file im trying to install. i have looked at the cue file using CDmage and everything seems to be in order. im using Nero 5.5.9.17 and i use 'burn image' and select the cue for the file (the bins in the same folder) and write it. it writes the cd, but then when i try to open the burned cd it shows me that theres nothing on the disk.
what am i doing wrong?
thanks for any tips
(oh, the files for pc and i was burning at 32X, if it matters, thanks)

Is there any difference in opening a .bin (no .cue) with isobuster and burning those files verses Daemon virtual cd-rom and burning the files found there?
Plus, is there a better way/format?

There should be no difference whatsoever since the CUE just points to the BIN anyways. CUE files are for programs that dont automatically try to interpret BIN files (and those programs are few and far between).

1. No you cannot burn without a BIN file. The CUE file is just a support file pointing to the BIN file and tells programs (i.e., Nero) how to interpret the BIN file. Of course, Nero is fully capable of reading BIN files but thats another issue altogether.
2. Converting CD directly to BIN file: use CDRWIN3, CDRWIN5, Padus Discjuggler, Alcohol120, BlindWrite Converting to another format before converting to BIN: WinISO, Nero
=====
To convert a wierd cd image file format to a more familiar format (i.e., ISO, BIN/CUE), open up WinISO goto the Convert menu and sleect the "Other Image Format" option. Select the source file (the werid cd image file) and give it a final name. WinISO will convert the image to a ISO for you. If you prefer a BIN then when this is done, goto the Convert menu and select ISO to BIN and repeat the same.
To convert a wierd cd image file format to a more familiar format (i.e., BIN/CUE), open up CDMage, drag-and-drop the wierd file into it. It will pop-up a box for you to specify the format; simple trial and error will resolve this minor hurdle. Now when that is done, File --> Save As. Give it a name and it will save the BIN/CUE for ya.

i downloaded WinISO, but since it is the trial version, I can only do the following
The limit of the unregistered version are as follows:
1. Can not extract a file greater than 3MB.
2. Can not convert an image greater than 100MB.
3. Can not save an image greater than 100MB.
4. Can not save an image greater than 100MB as new file.
so that means that i won't be able to convert my cd/dvd (into a iso then into a bin file)? right?
If so, are the any other programs that don't have limitations that i can download?
Ive seem programs like SoftDisc 2.0, UltraISO 6.51, and MagicISO 3.8.75.......are ne of these good?
thx

but don't i need to use WinISO to convert my cd/dvd into an iso and then into a bin file?
I don't think i can convert a cd into an iso and then into a bin file in cd mage.
or can i?

Hi praetor!
I've already told u about my problem on irc (#ad_buddies)... The problem is still the same. Maybe U can help me one more time... ;-)
Problem is :
- when I burn images files to cd with fireburner or cdrwin or alcohol120, everything seems to work but I always get blank cd in windoze...
- there is something written on the cd 'cause a track appears when I open the cd with isobuster but I can't browse the track.
- my .bin & .cue files are correct 'cause I can browse the complete track with cdmage...
Can u tell me how to solve this problem ?
Thx a lot in advance !
Gaut.

Read the title of this thread: BIN / .CUE / .ISO Frequently asked questions. READ1ST If you have a question about PS2s perhaps you might want to check out the PS2 section or post it under the main CDR section. If you hvant picked up on it yet, BIN / .CUE / .ISO Frequently asked questions. READ1ST is for general questions and answers on BINs, CUE and other FAQ. Consider yourself warned.

1. Dude... I answer so many questions i can barly remember my own name. Thx for leaving the info (and saving me the typing time)
2. Try this
- Make cure AGAIN, that you are actually burning, rather than SIMULATING
- After you burn, does Nero say the disc is empty? (goto Recorder --> Disc Info)
- Make sure you are burning on the optical drive (and not using the Image Recorder, to check goto Recorder --> Choose Recorder and select the one that isnt Image Recorder)
- I assume you have cheked the BIN files are not corrupt? (Open them in CDMage, Actions --> Scan for Corruption)
- I think http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324129 has something there about burning and then seeing nothing on the CD.
- Do the CDs read on another drive?
