Bobrock if you have just had 2 discs that were finalized and it didn't recognize them then get ready for it to happen all the time. Get rid of it now. I took mine back to Walmart and got a Cyberhome and have had it 2 months and have had no trouble what so ever. ILO was a piece of junk.

Yeah my Dad is sending me the recipt and it'll probably makes it's way back. Which Cyberhome did you get? The 1600? Isn't that the same as what I have? Aren't the 05MU's made by Cyberhome?

I got the 1600 Cyberhome. They are made by the same company but for some reason Cyberhome is a little better. Someone told me buying Cyberhome was like rolling the dice. Luckly I got a good one. In two months I have had only one disc that wasn't recognized but it did it right after formating so I didn't waste the time recording and then tell me that. I have a Emerson that at Walmart right now is only like $129.00. It has been excellent. Very user friendly. A lot like the vcr was. That's the one I would put my money in. Emerson I believe is made by JVC.

I posted this in the wrong place (I started a new thread by mistake) Sorry! I hope that you kind people will be able to help me!
I just purchased a ILO DVDR05 mu1 manufactured Nov. 2005. It says on the setup page that it is version: Vi: c00065 MIU servo: Dx043D D 037S How do I know if I need the updates on the ilo website? I am getting that humming on playback when I watch a TV show using the ILO tv tuner or when Ihave taped a TV show using the ilo tv tuner. I noticed in the postings that this could be helped by an update but I believe that was on an 04 version because the post was from 2/26/05. Are there really no updates for my mu1. The humming is really getting on my nerves!!
I also wanted to know about the A-B erase function. I thought that I had read that you could A-B erase an R+ disc but that you would lose that space to record on in the future. Is this right or can it only be done on a RW+ ? I tried to do it on an R+ but it didn't light up as an option. It did work on an RW+.
And finally, I tried recording on the 8 hour SEP. Everyone moves like a robot and are totally pixelized. It was horrible. The 6 hour (SLP) is bad enough. The closeup views are fine but anyone in the background are fuzzy and pixelized. Is this normal? I am finding the lowest setting that doesn't drive me crazy is the 4 hour EP. Is this just the way the technology is?
This is my first time posting on a site like this. I appreciate any help you can offer. I found all of your postings very helpful before I bought my recorder. I had a gift card to Walmart and have limited funds, so I had to go with the ILO. So far its been pretty good except for the humming. .
Thanks!

criket,
Make sure you check your cables really well. The tuners in most of the ILO/LiteOn/Cyberhome recorders are marginal at best. The R04 had a bad hum when recording with the front inputs and the tuner was a bit noisy also. Most would use an external tuner, like a vcr, plugged into the rear inputs and record through that. This was also the way around the fact that the tuner is also mono. To get a stereo tuner recording, you would also use the VCR tuner through the inputs. Plus, it is a much cleaner signal.
As far as recording quality, don't use anything under 4 hour mode. 6 & 8 hour modes are VCD quality Mpeg1. 4 hour mode is the last setting with DVD Mpeg2 video.

So yeah I am taking my 05MU recorder back this week. I have recorded 3 discs in a row and when finalizing they become unknown discs. So if I have add a little extra money to my return what would be a good unit to buy? It has to be something at Walmart and I could probably spend another $50.00. I am not going for another Ilo or a Cyberhome which this unit is! Well if anyone can give me any input thanks..

Bobrock get a Emerson. Mine has been just great. It was $148 but now is $129 at my Walmart. And it is so user friendly. Very easy to record on and use. I have had no problems whatsoever from it. I think Emerson is made my the JVC/RCA Company as I had a JVC remote that would turn it off. Check it out.

I have copied a few tapes to dvd but the picture isn't as good as expected. Could have been the tapes. I mainly copy dvd to dvd and the copy is very good if using the 1, 2 or 4 hour modes. I never use anything past the 4 and don't really like using it. I was under the impression that dvd was going to be superior to tape but in some ways it's not. On the longer speeds the picture is just terrible. I can watch tv from the 4 hour mode but don't like it. The good thing about dvds is you don't have all the tapes stacked around anymore. but I felt the 6 hour mode on tapes is superior to 4 hours on dvd.

I have probably been in 20 different Walmart Stores in the mid south, and I haven't seen the RO5 priced for less than $98.00
Where can you find one for $79.00

Is this the Cyberhome DVR 1200 model that your talking about ?
That is the only one that I know of that wal-mart is carring for around that price.
Your right it doesn't have the DV Input but the good thing about it it does both media's -R/RW and +R/RW as well as plays .AVI files.

Sorry,I started a new thread and shouldn't have. Please forgive. Here is my question:
Should I download iLO firmware and if so, which, front end or back end or both, if I have the following problem: DVD+R shows a disc error whenever I try to record (using Fuji 8x). Imation DVD+RW 4x works fine. Have e-mailed ilo this info but have not received and answer yet. iLO Model RO5MU. Any help appreciated.

Don't buy them. They aren't worth it. They will be nothing but trouble. You knew that or you wouldn't be on this website. The muffin pan is probably there for a reason. Go for a name brand even if have to pay $50. more.
