Assuming you have XP, this is the procedure for resetting password.
Windows XP has a hidden Administrator account. It can be used to troubleshoot the computer's other accounts. That includes changing passwords. To get to it, you'll have to boot your computer in Safe Mode.
First, restart the computer. As it starts, repeatedly press the F8 key. Instead of the familiar Windows screen, you'll see a text-only Advanced Options Menu. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode. Then press Enter.
Select the Administrator account. By default on most computers, it requires no password. Once logged in, you can change the password of the account you normally use.
To make the change, click Start>>Run. In the box, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and click OK. Select your normal account name in the list. Click the Reset Password button. You'll be prompted for a new password. You can restart the computer and use the new password on the Administrator account.

Nope, and it is more complicated, but it can be done.
BTW, this is WAY OT.

[b] I have been reading this thread religiouly for at least 4 months now (this month, I will be building a Core i7 rig) and for the life of me, I cannot see what is making some of the members angry to the point to where they are leaving the thread. (I am one of the old timers - not a newbee.) If someone doesn't like the way some people post, just don't read their posts. It's simple!
New subject: The Newegg only shows one cooler for the LGA 1366 socket/chip. What is everyone out there using for a CPU cooler? Are there any water blocks out yet for this chip?
Thanks for all the information. You guys are good.

Both at ebuyer and newegg, having the fan bizarrely works out cheaper than not having it, but in all honesty, it's unnecessary. The dominators run at least 20ºC cooler than the normal XMS2 sticks as is.

Where did you see that? From what I can tell Newegg has them for $45 (RAM) and $109 (RAM w/ fan)
I thought I would provide a comparison on some Dominators.. Thank goodness I need the extra cash for other stuff right now.. some good deals to be had on Corsair RAM. ;)

My question is should I get the fan to keep the RAM cool and if so will it negatively affect the overall case temperature? As always any advice is appreciated.

Parker,
Right now you might want to consider these. Pretty tough to beat for $15 after $30 MIR. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145043 You will get the rebate and can check on line to be sure. Sell what you got or use it for something else. The best thing is you won't be using all 4 memory slots, which can cause problems in an overclocked machine. I have them in mine and find they run quite cool at 2.1v at 5-5-5-15 @1066MHz. You'll wind up with twice the memory for almost nothing. Just a suggestion.
BTW, you don't want to be mixing different models of memory anyway. It's always best to duplicate what you have in the computer. There's always far less headaches that way.

Russ

Is there a difference between them, besides the fan that I'm not seeing? Like sammorris pointed out the one with the fan costs less so it doesn't seem right to me.
Thanks,
Parker
Parker,
For the $60 final cost get the ones with the fans. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145197
2x2GB would be great and just sell or use the old memory It's the same memory anyway, and as you pointed out, it's cheaper. I doubt that you'll need the fans though, but the should prove useful somewhere. When Corsair designed the fans, it sounded like a great idea at the time. Problem was most aftermarket CPU coolers blow front to back, pulling more then enough airflow over the fins on the memory to keep it running very cool. They are barely warm to the touch and will run all day long at 1066MHz without problems. I wouldn't advise trying to overclock it though considering that PC28500 is 800MHz memory that's overclocked 266MHz, and guaranteed to do it! It should fluff up your memory bandwidth pretty good.
Best Regards,
Russ

Russ,
Thanks again for the advice. I'll probably go with the 2 x 2Gb for $60 and store the fan somewhere as I don't think I'll need it and like you said my cpu's HSF does a good job of moving air across the RAM. As far as overclocking goes I wasn't planning doing it because, as you already mentioned, they are already OC'd pretty much to their max.
Thanks,
Parker

The freezer 7 pro is much better, and for the sake of less than 10 extra dollars, it's crazy not to buy one.

Thanks for all the information. You guys are good.

From what I've read on other forums and the companies themselves the thing to do is request or ask about alternate hardware for the i7 cpus. I'm pretty sure there are a few of the cpu coolers that will work with the i7 but unfortunately I don't have that information atm. I'll look as some of the others already have I'm sure. Good luck with your build mate. ;)
OH and I don't think we compare to the PGA Tour guys but some of us (me NOT included) are pretty good. ;)
Again good luck to you....

The Ultra-120 Extreme is now in Socket 1366 form, so that's my recommendation for now :)
For AMD coolers, the Freezer 64 Pro will be more than adequate for a dual core - get the 5400+, it's faster, the 5050e is just a more energy efficient CPU, but it's slower.

rick I would go with the 5050e for a couple of reasons. More efficient and less money to start with. IF going with another cpu I'd consider one of these but remember power consumption is more with both of these at full tilt. ;) link to AMD cpu's
This cpu cooler should cover all your needs. link to ACF 64

first of all best of luck on your grand daughters build seem...i got here alittle to late...here's 1 i would have recommended to you air flow has been great even after the lapping the copper cooling has been un real at idle past summer low as 19c..I guest that's y they call them Cooler Master..lol
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103031
another..i have now is on my BioStar board is below:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103040
fantastic cooler..i say hands down great on the cfm even more on the dba and rpm's...I can controller my rpm's inside or outside of the bio's..I would have to say the cooler master 92mm the 1 above is alittle louder maybe of the antec 300 case..i have it in but it gets the job done.but my northbridge fan is the monster cranking 4100rpm's.I gotta keep it turned down it came with the board..
best of luck again Rick
Rick,
Neither is any better than the Freezer 64! The COOLER MASTER RR-CCH-LB12-GP 120mm is also very loud. The freezer 64's fan can be easily replaced if needed for about $6, and no tools needed!
