hi the reason you cant ftp is your box has crashed in a simple way of putting it, so for that reason it will not have its ip address, what you will need is ifa (image flash assistant) i think if you go back from page 160 of this thread i have put pictures on how to use ifa and what is needed

Would you be able to direct me to the latest Sportster Image file. The one I have isn't the right one.

Magic Keys are to make sure that EVOCAM updates correctly. I can get about 275 channels on mine some of which are duplicated. The CF image is very stable.
If you have a website of something I could ftp the lot over to you

Noooo that makes no diffeence at all. its the fact that most studios use several transponsders to get their content onto the network. Because the box works in native mode it picks up all the transponders based on their ID's. When new channels come along I just set mine to update

So I'm trying to flash a new image to my Dbox 2.
I'm using IFA software as suggested byt am only using a cross over cable as my laptop doesn't have a com port and is running Vista.
The Flash assistant is running now for some time but all I see on the LCD of the Dbox is the loading logo.
What am I doing wrong? I can't get in to verify the IP address.

I used to think you only needed one cable too. I am almost certain you need both for some reason. Are you certain you do not have a com port. Most have at least 1 9 way DB serial connector, you can make up or buy crossover (must be a crossover cable) cables. It sounds to me like your DBox is waiting for you to do something to do something.
With all your stuff connected and the image flashing assistant running reboot your box. Chances are that the Hallenberg Reflash software is waiting for a box reboot.

IFA is not the same ass reflashing go to Hallenberg.com and get DBox Image Flashing Assistant. If you do not have a COM1 X-CROSS OVER cable you are stuck. I would not trust Vista either, it's shit !

This is all I used but i did USE BOTH CABLES. I tried it your way and got the same as you.
1. Get an image (2 Intel Image for Nokia)
2. Plug in all cables
3. Run Hallenberg IFA
4. Reboot DBOX
Hallenberg should pick up the IP address automatically, the default if it does not is normally 10.10.10.1
Don't use a router either, they have been known to screw things up
especially when recording.
Your LAN cable ALSO NEEDS TO BE A CROSSOVER CABLE TOO
If you have wired lan cables before one end is as follows
W/O - O/W - G/W - BL - BL/W - G - BR/W - BR
The other end has to be wired thus:
G/W - G - O/W - BL - BL/W - O - BR/W - BR
therefore you need two crossover cables if you are not going hrough a router to achieve what you are trying to do.
Easy peasy to get hold of though !

hi if you are going to give advice then make sure you know what your going on about, of course ifa flashes your box, despite your box does not have ip address, also there is no problem with vista and ifa i have flashed 100s of boxes with vista, you need a usb to rs232 serial and a cross over cable follow the pictures on page 165 of this thread and you cant go wrong

So I used another laptop with XP, and a COM port.
I used the IFA software, a null cable and a crossover cable.
All looked good but an I noticed that some of the scripts were saying failed e.g. boot net failed and then an error message came up in German. I clicked what looked like OK and rebooted the box.
The process started again, and the same message came up, and then a third time.
The Dbox isn't booting into the Sportster logo anymore, but is stuck at the very first screen. Am I even close to a fix?

I've flashed hundreds of boxes too, also have written in Linux have encountered probs with Vista although SP1 has made it better. I still would not touch it with a bargepole though. Been in this game since 1988. Not saying you get all the same probs as I have had over the years. Why buy a USB to COM cable - use your nouse, be a real tachie and make one. (I've been a real techie fgor years - buy a cable ha ha ha ha ha ha ha )

Eh, just trying to get a fix here.
I appreciate both the inputs from you as it's good to try both methods and troubleshoot using both logics or a mix of the two in this case. (Very diplomatic of me).
I got excited there cause I thought the firewall was blocking the process but that hasn't helped either.

hmmm scripts, this might have something to do with Neutrino itself,
rather than the image. You are sure its a Nokia box and someone has not dismantled one and put it in a Nokia case. Check the number of memory chips 2 for Intel (Nokia) and 1 for (SAGEM)

Sounds like it could possibly be the Neutrino Kernel itself is at fault. Any one else seen this one ? - you might have to do some script editing - me thinks or obtain the correct set, bound to be about somewhere.

Sounds possible.
I think this fault developed right after a power cut so the box might not have liked that one.

Do my guess would be to reload Neutrino and then reflash your box.
The problem might go away then
