hey i have bit tornado but my downloads are not going as fast as i think they should be. some get up to 50kb/s but most hover around 1-7kb/s. also, i heard that u have to upload to download but my uploads are only about 1% as much as my downloads. i have tried to forward ports and stuff but i dont know anything about computers.

hey i just fixed my problem with downloads and i switched from bit tornado to bit torrent. i found a friend that helped me forward my ports but now my downloads are high and my uploads are 0. what am i doing wrong?

I have a similar issue as monkey51. I'm using BitTornado for some time now. Recently I forwarded my ports and now I have terrific download rates, but my upload rates are puny. Any help?

honestly, torrents are fundamentaly flawed. i have a 10mbit conection in my house (thankyou new york cable) and yet i end up downloading torrents at about 2-3kb/s. in order to upload any faster, people have to allow more downloaders for them (change your max/min uploade setting) and raise their upload bandwith. since i have ALOT to spare i allow 25 downloaders from me, and 200kb/s. the more seeders(people with 100%of the file and the torrent running) and peers (others down/uploading) the faster it goes. it has the potential to upload at rates of well over 100mbit but that never happens, theres not enough people on one file at one time. the best way to make files faster universally is to give up your bandwith(if you have a set price, like cable internet, like me) when you dont need it, like work time and night, just leave it on the highest settings you feel like entering. also, i suggest using Burst! torrent downloader because you can have 15 simultaneous downloads and you can adjust all of your settings with arrow and WASD keys

It's weird because the pisexy tracker is still working. From time to time it's returning error '666 the devil has found you' but it does work.
I'm hoping it's just a weird problem and Pimpie is out of town or something.

Ok I dont want to sound big headed because I need some help please!!
I had been using Kazaa and Shareaza for many years uploading and downloading stuff and really having a good laugh.
I then started to hammer the world of torrents, and I appreciate that everyone has there favourite client. I used BitComet (for my sins some may say).
I love downloading and am getting up to 350kbs download. I can use all the usual formats ISO, ZIP, RAR, mpeg, avi, flac etc etc, i can convert literally anything to anything, i can use shrink, santa, isobuster etc etc.
But I cant share...
I have 300 DVD's and 6000CD's on mp3 format and about 5000LP's on mp3 format.And something in the region of 100000 pictures/flashfiles and Powerpoint presentations/mpgs and avi's. I catalogue everything i have on my pc and am quite happy to share what i have for free.
But where Kazaa and Sharaza were good was that I could simply make my folders shared and hey presto.
My internet connection is 4mb (in UK) by Satelite Broadband, uplinking in Holland using a company based in Belgium. I have a fixed IP address and nothing else at all on my PC.
All my downloads are dumped on the HDD and then I copy them to another machine were I do all my converting etc etc.
But I cant for the life of me fathom out the task of making a torrentfile out of something I have and then uploading it somewhere for others to download. I know when i am downloading files, other people are uploading my partial downloads, but how do I actually post one of my torrent files on a site for others to download.
I use torrentspy.com, torrentazos.com, mininova.org, torrentreactor.com mainly cos i cant easily get what i need. But please help tell me how i can share my stuff and give stuff that is not there.

i will post for you exactly how to do it.(i only know how to do it for my client, switch to Burst! (http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/index.phtml)) then get the make torrent client ( http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/maketorrent/index.phtml ). open the burst! torrent client, click make torrent, select your file, select a tracker (thats the thing that cant be found when the torrent is down) and click create .torrent now!. put it in the same directory as the file youe just amde the torrent of, thats important. now that nice little 465kb or so file can be uploaded anywhere, and thats the thing people use to start the torrent, you have to seed it for awhile though, which i hope you know how to do. i suggest elitetorrent tracker, its almost always working. as a show of a completed file, here it is http://rapidshare.de/files/1578108/01_-_Helena.mp3.torrent.html

OK, Ill try your Client for a while and see what happens. I assume that to seed, I simply leave the machine on, with the uploaded torrent still in my list of uploading/downloading torrents.
Now when you say use the elitetorrenttracker, how do I actually find the address of that tracker to put into the make torrent program.. Ah ha.. I have just made a torrent using the program and now i see it. All i need to do was to drop down the arrow!!..Durr..
Ok, so what perhaps I should have done is given my Torrent file some useful info perhaps.
I am stuck on the seeding thing though.
I can see my Torrent in the list of torrents, it says it has no seeders (I know cos I have not got the machine open with the file and no client turned on).
I opened Burst and if i try to download it, it says that I am a leecher! (nasty)
Anyway..I have found that I can make a Torrent without Burst and I have registered with TorrentSpy.com where I can put my Torrents in.

That is just a Testing Torrent. But as I have no Bit Torrent Client on this machine, and I cant use one, as I am at work, i can see it, and it says no seeders. So I assume that when i use the client from home, and upload the file to the torrent what do i do to seed.
Just to clarify.
I have made a torrent file on the elite tracker.
I have uploaded it to my acount at TorrentSpy.com
It shows in the list of torrents
It says no seeders, and I am now stuck.
Please help me..

I've stolen this little guide from someone else and it seems to work and to show you how to make a torrent file so you can share with others.
(I have the original Version which has pictures)
Step 1
First you need to download a program called MakeTorrent. You can download it from http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/maketorrent/index.phtml its only 393 KB in size. Once you have downloaded the program just simply install it.
Step 2
Now you have intsalled MakeTorrent, simply locate the file you wish to share. In this case its the lastest version of ZoneAlarm (free).Make sure your files are not 'read only', to check right click the file, hit 'properties' and look at the bottom of the window that comes up. If it is 'read only', just uncheck the box 'read only' and hit 'apply'.
Every torrent requires a tracker announce URL in order for it to be distributed. You can find a list of working trackers at thebeehive.info Since there are public and private trackers, you may need to register your torrent with the website of the tracker in order for it to be recognized. Please note that Torrentspy.com does not host a tracker.
Make sure the tracker/announce url is correct. You can also add a comment to the torrent file if you wish.
Step 3
Now you have everything ready simply click the "Create .torrent Now" button and select the location you want to save your new torrent file.
Once you have simply click Save.
Step 4 TorrentMaker will now create your torrent file.
Simply click Finish and you will now see your torrent file finished.
you can now submit it to TorrentSpy.com.
Seeding the torrent
If you don't do this, your torrent will not be downloadable for others!!
01. Select the .torrentfile you made on your own harddrive and open it.
02. In Bittorrent, select the folder with the files you made the torrent of and hit 'start'. Bittorrent will now check your existing file.
03. When Bittorrent finishes checking your existing file and it says 'finished' you are seeding. If Bittorrent was 'allocating' the file, you saved to the wrong folder.
04. Now wait untill people start to download your file and keep your seed up at least untill some people can download the complete file from you!!
I assume that this roughly the same for Bit Comet, but I shall try tonight.

if its not seeding, than the download path fo the torrent (where its being downloaded TO) isnt the same as where the file is. in burst, the first box is the directory of the torrent, the second is the directory of the downloaded file, make sure the second one points to the completed file your are trying to seed, and it should say "file 100% now seeding" or sumething

try some of the links posted by others, or just use google (the almighty tool of internet omnipotence) btw, google has a map service now with satelite photos, after finding your house, your school, seeing what color car your neighbor has, etc, you can find area 51. rachel nevada is a few miles east i believe.

hey im having trouble with slow speeds,(how many times have you heard this?!), ive forwarded the ports for the normal bittorent client which im using but i think my norton interbet security is blocking the ports. how do i open these in norton, ive allowed the program but i dont know how to allow ports.
thanks if ya can help i understand its been answered so many times before

I've been using Azureus. and i've searched and searched for open ports on my computer finally found one (port 3361) now i went into my win xp firewall and opened it up and set Azureus to port 3361. I also droped my u/l speed to 20k/bps and upload changed to 1200k/bps i know i'll never get it up to that speed but atleast my d/l went from 15k/bps to 90 to 150 k/bps i downloaded a 4gig file in about 16 and a half hours also configuard my reg edit settings tcp global window size is now set to 32767 dont know what the default setting is but it took me half and hour befor to d/l a 170mb file from download.com now done in 9 min so i know it works good adjusting your tcp window size and configuring you ports also.........hope this helps

Hello!i'm a newbie in this bittorrents world.Firstly,i'd been searching infos on how to use bittorrents and all for days now.Let me tell you what i did.I went to this site and found this 1 particular file i want to dl.I'm using Edonkey.Went to that site,click dl and run it.Got that file in my BT overview.The file is about 350.01M and also stated there...connecting to tracker,but i've waited like few hours yet nothing at all.My pc has firewall but i already allowed it to get through Edonkey,the port...i've changed to line 6881 but nothing happen. Also stated there,DNS server down(something like that)users cant get through?? I'm so confused now.Also,the bt overview is in another window not in the Edonkey transfer file.However its link to Edonkey.Do you have any idea what ive done wrong??PM me if you know a better way to get this file.I'm so frustrated that i'm not sure i'm writing in the right thread. Thanks in advannce!

A couple of newbie questions.....
1) I have used P2P file sharing before, they download multiple files at the same time. Bit Torrents downloads one after the other. Is this a set up issue, or is this the only way it works?
2) I have been downloading a file for a few days off and on. It has reached about 30%. It keeps shutting it's self down. I leave the PC running, come back in awhile and the app is no longer on the desktop running.
Any suggestions appreciated
