I noticed that when RB is done with the first phase, it says "Space for Video 3,657,558KB" which is roughly 3.32 GB from what i can tell by the size of the output folder.

Your ini file says your using CCE Basic, yet your eclPasses=4, you should set that to 2. I've only had a spacing size problem twice. The first was the result of a thunderstorm that caused my PC to crash and the second was when I was experimenting with DVD2DVD-R. All I can say is keep it clean and pay attention to details, details, and details.

pop_smith,

Remember that the space for video does not include audio, subpictures, and menus that you've selected to keep. That figure is what DVD-RB computes to be available on a DVD-5 after subtracting video/audio and menus.

That number is used to calculate bitrate required to make the DVD come in under 4.7GB

1,000 bytes=1KB: 4.7GB
1,024 bytes=1KB: 4.377GB

sales use 1,000, computers use 1,024 bytes per KB

Just in case you haven't seen the conversion factors. In other words, the 4.7GB disc you buy will only hold 4.377GB of data from your PC as it reads it.

Can anyone describe what effects the VBR_BIAS and QUALITY_PREC seetings do. Also give some examples of movies why these default settings were changed from 25 and 16 respectively.

Unless you're using CCE SP, VBR_BIAS doesn't do anything. If you are using that version it represents how big quickly the bitrate can change. Quality_Prec is the amount of bitrate given to motion vs. surfaces. The lower the number, the more that's reserved for motion. When I'm encoding animated discs I normally set this to 20.

Hello all

It's me again I've tried all the things you told me but no success...

I'm currently using CCE SP trial version 2.67.00.23 with EclCCE 1.81...

It's very frustrating, the destination folder is NTFS format and i've verified all the settings carefully.

Ok I'm a newbie nut i would like to understand why it doesn't want to work

In another thread I just discovered that RB wasn't compatible with the standalone version of CCE SP 2.67. I don?t know if it has similar problem with the trial version but you might want to try an older version of CCE SP Trial.

I know you've probably already answered this question but are you using the Trial or retail version of CCE Basic? I searched back a few pages and didn't see that question asked.

chjoy ... also, if you are using the retail CCE Basic, did you ever have another version of CCE installed prior to this?

When I first tried RB-CCE I used the CCE SP trial. I also used a different guide/instructions than the one at Afterdawn. Things didn't work. I gave up until I heard about the quality (and an editing program called Remake). I then found the AD guide, I purchased CCE Basic for $58, and then I got the buffer overflows with all files that were edited (non-edited files straight out of Decrypter went OK). Never-the-less, I was disappointed, and I was discouraged.

Then, for non-related reasons, I needed to do a complete fresh install, which started with a zero write to the HDD to remove any possible boot-sector viruses. After I had installed all of the software again, I never got the buffer overflow again. I have done over 150 backups since then and I have not had one single error. I cannot tell you what changed to get this improvement.

When people, like yourself, are doing all the right things and have a problem, one looks to other explanations. I am beginning to think that different versions of CCE don't mix well together when used with DVD Rebuilder. I am still gathering evidence for this explanation. There is certainly enough evidence out there now that suggests that if you were to purchase CCE Basic, and do a fresh install, you would cease to have problems.

Thanks for the info but you still didn't answer one part of my question. Are you using a retail version or a trial version?

Doc

I have both 2.69 and 2.67 installed at the same time and they both work just fine. I too have noticed that many errors have been avoided by a clean install. Sometimes the errors are much more difficult to assess.

Case and point, I just tried to update Alcohol 120%, I?d uninstalled it several weeks ago and hadn?t gotten around to updating it. Then they changed web sites and that put it back a few more paces. Finally today I downloaded it and tried to install it but I got an error message.

To resolve the issue I had to edit my registry and remove all previous entries of Alcohol and then go to Windows32 driver?s folder and delete two files. After that it installed without a hitch and it?s working just fine. Registry errors can stop just about anything and they?re among the most irritating of all.

Sophocles ... I am thinking more along the line that the trial and retail versions don't get along.

I would agree that registry errors are the most irritating. I've only edited my registry once, and I don't think this is a task many take on due to all the warnings one sees before getting into it. I've always opted for a clean install. However, it occurs to me now that when I decided to do a clean install, I should have started with editing the registry first just to get the practice.

Sophocles

I'm using an trial version (free download)

Last night, i've made a refresh install of my PC :

Format of C:, Win2k SP4 + drivers of my CM (Asus P4PE) etc...

Just before sleeping i've tried DVDRebuilder + CCE 2.66.01.07 trial Version + EclCCE 1.81
And i don't know why but IT WORKED, i've just launched the 'Prepare step' and no more Error Message, tonight i will do all the steps and try to make a decent copy of my dvd (24h season 2).

I will keep you informed of the continuation of my experiments.

Thank you with all for your kind assistance and not to hold account of my English level :-)

at this evening for the continuation

I will keep you adv

In your Ini file it listed CCE Basic, CCE basic trial version doesn't do anything it will only encode 3 minutes of video. You either need to download the trial version of CCE SP and follow the instructions for that or buy CCE Basic. If you decide to try CCE SP be sure to get a version lower than 2.67.

For those experiencing the Retail v2.67.00.xx errors -- it should be fixed. Download the new version from Doom9 (press the "Check for New Version" button under the "Help" menu).

Enjoy.

The present problem is a real basic setup problem but I haven't experienced it since my first setup and forget what it is.
Go over everthing in the guide one more time and I'll try to remember what it was.
