Thanks for that Sophocles.
I'll do a film from scratch with DVD Decrypter, then run it through RB/CCE to see how I get on.

Quote: I had it set on three click mode so that if it went tits up I could see on which process it failed.
Try starting out simple, then working your way up. Use one click method, and don't do any editing. To improve quality use steal space from extras(25%-33%) and resize to half D1 on the extras instead of editing.
Then as you get it working you can try 3-click method, re-authoring using other apps then going to RB, and batch mode.
good luck.....

bigorange,
most of what you just said was jibberish to me.
I just had another go but this time I started from scratch.
I decrypted 'Enemy of the State' with DVD Decrypter, the file is over 8Gig.
Then I run ReBuilder. It encoded in 56 minutes which impressed me because averybody says it takes 3-4 hours.
When I clicked on 'Rebuild' it went fine at first but when it got to the third segment it stopped with another error. This time it was #0004.

In the folder where you have RB there is a file called DVD Rrebuilder configuration settings, double click on it and copy and paste them here. Sometimes the solution is so simple as to be overlooked entirely.

Hello Agent-K
If your encoding in less than an hour on an 8 gig movie then you have a basic setup problem.
The likely place to look is the mpeg2dec3dg.dll file.
Is the dll in the same folder as rebuilder. Is the box checked for add mpeg2dec.dll to avisynth.
Do you have Avisynth 2.54 installed and does it have mpeg2dec3dg.dll in the plug in folder.

Since you own CCE it is certainly worth the time to get everything working right even if you prefer Shrink.
Once setup is to you liking the advantages become more apparent.
If you have a background decypter like dvd43 or anydvd you can just use the same in and out folders each time. Then you can insert the dvd, open Rebuilder, hit transcode and relax. No settings, setup, analysis or changes.
Most of us edit or play with the source or do multiple movies at once so decrypting manually into a source folder is necessary.
I can rip several movies into labeled folders in the source directory then use batch in rbfarm to encode them sequentially using several stripped down slave computers taking about an hour each with no help from me.
So you can choose simple or advanced with many options as you go along. I never worry about the original size because the results have always been superior to anything else I use reguardless of input size.

This is in the basic setup guide by vurbal. You are the one that said you were using the 3 click method, which is much more involved and indicates you know the basic setup.

Yes I do have Avisynth 2.54 installed and no it didn't have mpeg2dec3dg.dll in the plug-in folder. But I've just put it in there.

I think that he's referring to this line.

It could be confusing to a beginner.

I still can't get it to rebuild.
I've tried CCE 2.66, 2.67, and 2.69 all with no luck.
Anything else I should try? I really would like to see the results with this method.

Unfortunately using different versions of cce won't help this problem. You have a setup problem with cce or avisynth or the paths. Until this is figured out your dead in the water.
Were did you get the mpeg2dc3dg.dll file. With all the CCE changes you also need to clear the CCE folders out then reinstall just one CCE then reset the path.
When encoding watch the numbers for CCE. See if the bit rate stays very low and the frame don't vary much.

It may be a good idea to take all the relevant programs out and re-install them from scratch and start all over again.

I recomend installing DVDrebuilder into a named folder on C: to keep confusion about the location to a minimum. Make sure to make a new short cut. Use the latest rebuilder.

Thx for the advice re RB/CCE settings - I will continue using 16. While I've got you - I hope this question is not too far off topic. After RB/CCE have done their wonderful job, we have to burn. In my case I can use either
#1 Nero
#2 Copy2DVD (left over from my DVD2One days)
#3 ImgTool/DVD Decrypter
Noticing that #3 would involve some translation ie VIDEO_TS to ISO to VIDEO_TS, I am lead to ponder. Referring to quality, does all burning software produce the same end result?

I know I'm not Vurbal but I'd like to answer. I use Nero most of the time but on occasion Nero reports an error stating that proceeding might result in a movie that might not be playable. In such situations I use CopyToDvd (also from my DVD2One days) and it's given me a working movie everytime.

In my experience, under normal conditions there shouldn't be any difference between different burning software, but when your system has problems there may be. When I first started backing up DVDs (late 2002) I had been using Nero 5.5.x for my CD burning. Unfortunately there were many people who had problems with 5.5 and DVD burning, and I decided not to even mess with it. Since I didn't have any other commercial programs (or interest in buying them) I decided to use DVD Decrypter (with ImgTool) to burn. This worked great but since I was tired of making images (after ripping with Decrypter and stripping with IfoEdit) I got a copy of RecordNow Max 4.5, which continues to be my program of choice. After a couple of months I started getting bad burns, and I eventually determined that it was a Windows problem (which I never resolved because a lightning strike took out the PC). During my testing, I found that, even burning at 1x (which was the only way I could get a good burn) DVD Decrypter often gave me bad discs, but RecordNow always did the job.
Now all of that is probably not very helpful, but it's as good an answer as I can give. I wouldn't base your opinion of Decrypter on that evidence since I was sure Windows was the culprit of the initial problems (there were other problems that suggested this). Plus it was many updates back. I haven't ever used anything besides Decrypter or RecordNow to burn with so I can't comment on the other software. I will say that if I wanted to use Decrypter now, I'd probably just use Shrink to make the image (with no compression of course) and then have it automatically use Decrypter to burn.

I've only had that warning from Nero perhaps a little more than a dozen times but out of over 500 burns that's not bad. But on the one occassion that I ignored the warning I got a coaster so I burned the movie again but with CopyToDVD and it worked fine. It could be a coincident but then again maybe not.

Thx guys, food for thought. You are both talking about reliability of the burn which can be a problem. But what about the video/sound quality of the end result - is there a difference there?

The only thing the burning program could do to cause video problems is to make too many errors. In other words, with respect to the burning software they're the same thing.
