You guys have been so helpful, may I ask you another question off topoic (It hasn't been answered in the Ripping section)
I have just converted to RB/CCE so my latest glitch was blamed initially on my new process. The problem is small sound dropouts, about as long as a scratch on an LP record. In the past I have suspected my media which is not the best (Princo $Aust 3.50) which does give the occasional coaster. So I ran the backup through DVDInfo Pro to check for read errors - there were none. I no longer have the original DVD but I had not erased the DVDDecrypter files from my HD. So I played these files with PowerDVD - lo and behold there was the problem. These files had been ripped with no errors. My question - is there a program out there that will analyze the decrypted files before I waste the hours consumed by RB/CCE?

Schaf1945 ... yes, the question is off topic...and one question usually leads to the next. Please help us keep this thread clean with only RB-CCE related issues. I would suggest you post your question in the DVD-R forum. I'll look for it and give you my thoughts. Thanks much.

Hi guys!
First of all I must say that I have been using Rebuilder along with CCE SP for quite a while now (done approx. 30 backups) without a single glitch.
I would remain silent if it weren't for the latest backup I am trying to do. I try to backup a movie which has 2 VTSs and on the second one in the phase of creating segment 1 (segment 0 goes smoothly as well as entire VTS1 which is main movie) I keep getting the same error message form CCE: a pop-up window appears with he message "cce_encoding_init() failed:". After clicking OK (the only option) CCE shuts down and rebuilder continues with the next segment. BTW: I use 3 click method.
Has anyone encoutered this before? Dare I ask: has it been solved somwhere else already and I am just wasting your time?
Please let me know if you need any additional info (I am sure that you do but please tell me what exactly).
Best regards,
Erik

@gorangel ... no, I haven't tried AviSynth 2.5.5. I'm not using any plugins right now, and so I don't see much benefit in upgrading.
@gererik ... No, I don't recall this problem ever being discussed before. What version of CCE SP are you using? Also, how are you preparing the DVD to be encoded, and what is the DVD? There is also an information file in the Rebuilder folder. It would help if you posted it.

Hi again!
I am using:
Rebuilder v.056
CCE SP 2.66.01.07
The movie is: Pirates from the Carribean
For ripping I use DVD Shrink 3.1 where I choose audio tracks and subtitles I want and than rip the movie without any compression. Then I start DVD Rebuilder and use option Steal space from extras (50 %) and Half-D1 and Half-Space for Extras. For this movie I used 10 passes (yes I know, it is redicoulus but I have to see for my self the difference between 2 and 10 passes :)))
There is also another interesting thing with this movie: Rebuilder splitted VTS1 into 85 segments (I think this is quite a lot), for second VTS I dont know since the thing stops working at the segment 1 (V07000100002001) but from Rebulder.inf I conclude that there are only 3 segments.
Since there is so many segments also the Rebuilder.inf file is accordingly long. So I post here just the part around troubeled segment (a couple of them before and after). Hope this is enough. If not - let me know.
And thanks for quick response!
Regards,
Erik

You have posted the log showing the segments rebuilder has the files broken down to in the D2VAVS folder. The number of segments can be high. The number of files in a completed Video_TS folder will not be the same.
It would tell us a lot if you post your configuration settings from your Rebuilder folder. Just to see how you have it set up. SP requires a different setup than CCE Basic which is the normal setup in the guide.

No MPEG2Dec3dg.dll file shows up in your setup. So there is a problem. I also noted that you have deviated from the normal setup. What was the situation that called for the command CCETargetSectors=2260000. It looks as though you may need to check the guide and go back through your setup. You can save the configuration files you have (for now just rename the file with .bak following the current name), but I would advise starting over with the default settings and follow the guide in every detail. Start with a clean setup and don't use your current configuration file.
Have you ever had this setup in operation or is this your first attempt with RB/CCE?
BTW, you said it about the 10 passes. 2 works great in Basic and anything more than 4 with the SP is usually a waste of time. Even with SP, 2 is sufficient for an excellent job of encoding.

Hi!
That's just it - I've done abou 20 successfull backups with those same exact settings before this one happened.
I know about 10 passes - I just had to see for myself.
And only the line "CCETargetSectors=2260000" was manually added by me - with this setting I am able to get only 20-30 Mb free space on a recorded DVD as opposed to default settings where I usually got 70-80 Mb free space. And again - it is just me - I hate to see space wasted on DVDs. :)))
Anyway thanks - I'll try again from the scratch although I will be saving everything since as I said - I was doing successfull backups with these settings and software for several weeks now without a problem.
Regards,
Erik

MPEG2Dec3dg.dll file was missing from the setup and that definitely needs to be in there. I was just wondering about the manual command installed for file sizing. Some people try to use it for over compression problems. My suggestion for renaming the old configuration file leaves it in place and if you have the need for reusing it, it is in place to do so (no harm, no foul).

brobear is right I don't see any indication of mpeg2dc3dg.dll being installed and I also don't see DVD-RB listed either. Either you've deleted these lines in your ini file or your setup has somehow been altered. My advice, redo your setup from scratch.

BTW, I forgot about multi angle movies, they cause problems of their own. Does POTR have any multi angle scenes in the recording? It gets a bit over my level of competence, but there are problems with the recording methods used with some movies. Thought I'd add that bit of trivia for after your getting the setup straightened out.

I assure you that only CCETargetSectors line was added by me. I don't dare to change anything else since I am not that familiar with the software.
Sophocles - you say something else is missing? (apart from mpeg2dc3dg.dll)

Sophocles is right. The default setting has MPEG2Dec3dg.dll in the Rebuilder folder and there is no trace of either in your configuration settings. So what happened to them?

I know that you might have edited your post of your ini file to remove your full name but you should have a line something like the one below. If you've done a system restore recently then that could change your settings but there are missing bits of info from the info you posted.
MPEG2DEC=C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Desktop\DVD Rebuilder\MPEG2Dec3dg.dll

Sophocles and I think alike on this one. As he is more knowledgable on the program, I'll leave you in his competent hands.

I don't think so but I will check. The thing is that I haven't been able to see the movie yet and I plann to see it today or tomorrow. And at the moment I am at work (don't tell my boss how I am spending company time :)) so I am not able to check this straight away.
So you will hear from me tomorrow when I will try the setup again.
Thanks guys.

I think I have the solution to this from a thread on Doom9 regarding the same error some people seem to get in a similar situation (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81567&highlight=cceencodinginit+failed). Apparently the solution some people have found is to change the settings in the ECL files so that non_linear=1 becomes non_linear=0. Since there's no setting in DVD-RB for this, you need to use a text editor to change it in Rebuilder.ECL. I recommend using find and replace so you don't have to find each instance manually.
Edited to fix stupid error

You're welcome. Irregardless of the rest; if something happened to the configuration setting MPEG2DEC=<Path>\... \... \DVD Rebuilder\MPEG2Dec3dg.dll; you need to get your settings back to what they should be, then if it doesn't work properly, you can go on to the other suggestions from my esteemed colleagues. Basics first... Once you get it running again, then type in the extras and reset the tweaks.

This is just a guess, but he might have the DLL in his AviSynth plugins directory, which would mean he doesn't need DVD-RB to set it for him. This is actually how I do it since I was using AviSynth long before DVD-RB was around. The reason I suggest doing it the other way in my guide is that it guarantees what version you're using, and you can't set that up without having the file there. I also don't use the idct=7 option in DVD-RB because I have it set automatically anytime that DLL is used.
