One anomaly I noticed (actually I caused, I'll fix it in the next version that will be released later today). The version number of CCE is only read at program start. So if you opened DVD-RB and changed the CCE SP path to point to the new version and then just ran an encode -- it will not have the correct version registered in RB... and could still use the older ECL formats -- which could create the oversized output. I suspect this may have happened to you.
After you make the change you have to exit DVD-RB and restart it. It will be correct everytime you use it then, unless you change the path again.
If that's not it... well... its something else.

You're so right. They get all this integrated video and audio crap and often without even the option for an AGP vid card. Then it's topped off with generic CAS3 memory with absolutely no room for optimum timing settings let alone a decent overclock.

Thanks for your reply!
I'll try later to see if it works.
Or should I just skip that and download the DVD-RB being released today?

If you're not in a hurry I'd wait. This one has a couple important fixes in it and it should only be a couple of hours... I'm running some final tests before release right now.

It's so easy...to go off-topic.
I just backed up Passion of the Christ, and there is no sound, only silence and sub-titles, past the intro splashes. The only language allowed in the RB settings is English. I'm wondering if this is my problem with the sound, as the spoken language of the film is mainly Aramaic? Has anyone had a similar experience?

The Passion of the Christ is in Latin with subtitles (just like in the theatre). The English is only there for commentary, I believe. You have to select one of the Latin tracks.

I'll try enabling all the voice options. Since there wasn't any sound at all, and not just the voices, I thought it unusual. I always thought that music, etc. was on a separate track than voice.

I have done that on a number of movies.
If it doesn't have an english soundtrack you loose all sound unless you reenable the foreign languages.
Sometimes I forget and I am left in silence.

Been there too! Sometimes I suspect that the voice tracks are added to the same musical or audio sound track and if you take out one language you take them all out.

Actually the language could very probably be Aramaic -- but labeled as Latin (there is no "Aramaic" in the ISO standard). I'd suggest you remove the DTS track -- it's huge.
Since I don't speak Latin or Aramaic it's all Greek to me. ;)

I am using
DVD Builder 0.58
DVD2avi 1.77
CCE basic trial 2.67.01.19
Avisynth 2.5
Any idea about the quality produced by DVD Rebuilder? Excellent? Is it the latest DVD backup technologies?
Thanks.

A trial version of CCE Basic is worthless, at best it can encode only 3 minutes of video. To really get an idea of what CCE can do you need to download the trial version of CCE SP. It has its own setup requirements so you need to follow the AD guide.

DX5 ... yes, you could consider the RB-CCE combo to be the latest in backup technologies. The CCE part of this is a commercial encoding engine considered to be the best by many video professionals. Other 1-click transcoders use an encoding engine of their own design...and none of these compare to the quality possible with RB-CCE.
The CCE SP trial version will put a logo on the screen, and a number of people bypass this step and just purchase the $58 CCE Basic.

If your into backing up with the best quality then CCE is the best option.
DVDrebuilder is the best way to go use it.
There is some setup involved but once you start using the program it is very easy.
You can get as advanced or simple as you want.

It's been a challenge for many to get as advanced as they wanted but there's a large number of people who didn't want to get so simple because they wanted. It came naturally! LOL

What a response! :))
Thanks, guys. I will try it now.
BTW, how much time does it need for encoding a DVD, say 1 hour 15 min? The most important concern is the quality, how is that?

DX5 ... I didn't see your system specs, but I have a P4 - 2.66 GHz and my average encode time is about 3 to 3-1/2 hours. RB also has a batch mode, so I usually set up 2 or 3 movies and go to work, or go to bed. IT's finished when I return.

Since your actually rencoding the whole movie the time can be long . But its power dependant. A 3hr movie on 1 3ghz P4 should be in the 3 hrs range.
My slower dual AMDs are similar.
If I run RBfarm it gets down to an hour encode with 4 PCs.
It about 20% slower than DVDshrink on high quality.
