Hi all, yet another newbie with a question here. Looked around this site and managed to flash my Dbox. Used the wrong image using IE at first, then used the correct image using IFA. I've gone with the Virgin+ 2.1 nokia image from the link in sc0user's sig. I've also added the "add ons", selected my location and performed a full (not quick) scan. Basically I get no picture for any channels except the FTA ones and not even all of those? Eg "Dave" does not display?
Thanks sc0user. The downloads and info in your link are better than anything else on the net with regard to flashing the Dbox. I'm sure there's some silly problem that I'm over looking. I'm wondering if I need to have it connected to the net when I perform the channel scan?
Also, does the Dbox have to be connected to the net permanently to keep updating keys?

Think I've solved my own problem, however I'll have to try it tomorrow. Bit late now!!!
I'm guessing I should've deleted the old and added the new chmodd files in both folders? Didn't see that anywhere on the readme file though. It must be the bit where it says "have a look at what I've hinted".
This thread has over 190 pages!!! That's alot to wade through to find the answers.

Ok, that didn't work. I'm going to completely start again. I'm going to IFA the image to the box, I'll then add the 3 bin files and the 3 key files. I'll then add my bouquet and service files to the tuxbox config folder. What EXACTLY do you do with the chmod? It doesn't say anything about it in the readme file and the instructions I've seen on here are not incredibly clear to me. Do I delete anything? Where exactly do I put the new one and which one? Do I have to rename it and get rid of the "NOT needed on these files"? Do I need both chmod files from the "add ons" folder?
Does the box have to be connected to the net when channel scanning? When on the tuxbox commander page the keylist text seems to be empty?

Sorry only noticed your post. The chmod 777 files already in /var/keys are symlinks,do not delete anything. You dont need to be connected to the net.
You only need to add the three rom7 files in there. The rom files can stay at the default chmod 644.
Your choice of emu(s) in /var/bin/emu - these must be set to chmod 755, or they won't work!
Where are you and what provider? Dont forget to set your location for scanning or you can FTP your services/bouquets.

I'm in Gt Yarmouth which is given as an option. I've now reflashed using IFA, I've added the 3 files in each the bin and keys folders. I have not put my services or bouquets on there. I've selected Gt Yarmouth and I've done a quick scan.
Still the same, only a few FTA channels actually diplaying a picture.
If I press blue, then 1, highlight keylist.txt and select read(3) I get a blank page. Is that correct?
Thanks again.

Have you added the files as I said above? And chmod the emus? You could flash with Blade Quad, nice image and all files already there.

I've added the files but have no idea what you mean about "chmod the emus"?
Quite like the look of the Virgin + image so I'd like to battle on with it a bit more before I give up. Thought I was doing quite well for my first go. Faffed around with the network settings and got the thing connected to my PC and got all the files on there. Then the kick in the teeth swiftly followed. Actually managed to get it connected through a router using a standard ethernet cable but decided to do it as instructed using a xover cable directly linked to the PC.

Is it correct that I have to go to the 3 files I added to the bin/emu folder, right click them and change something in there?

What exactly do I change? I right click them and don't have many options? I can rename them but that's about it. If I click properties it just shows little boxes with "read" "write" and "execute". I'm using windows XP, just so ya know. Sorry to be a pain. I just don't understand the terms on here...YET? Cheers.

I think I see the problem. Seems I need to use an FTP program like Cute FTP rather than IE to chmod the emus.

Jobs a goodun. All up and running now. Installed my bouquets and services at the same time. Might be worth adding a little "how to" file about the chmods to your downloads. Seems this is probably the bit most are missing. Nothing mentioned about that in the beginners guide or the virgin+ readme.
Now it's time to have a look at the proper NTL box with a digital smart card in it.
Thanks for your help sc0user.
