Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. It's a new problem that started a week or so after I downloaded emule. It worked fine at first, and at times it still does. However, unexpected disconnects from AOL have begun and once I'm disconnected, if I start AOL again AOL will run fine until I connenct emule. I don't get disconnected until emule acttually starts downloading files. As I've said, this is a new propblem that did not exist the first 2 weeks of my constantly using emule.
I'll gobble up any advice you have to offer.
(P.S. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling emule to no avail.)
Thanks in advance.

Do you think it could be a problem with AOL maybe blocking your uploads/downloads??

Yes, I considered that possiblity, but couldn't come up with a reason why they would do such thing, and I didn't know if it was maybe a general emule problem.
What browser and ISP do you reccommend? (providing that you believe it may just be AOL blocking me) Or is there a possible alternate explination?
Thanks in advance.

Dlea, surfers like you made cyber space good-good. Thanks for the tutorial. It was the first that I came across on the subject and did a lot to help me get up and running.
Now I'm downloading for days.
And as for the evil AOL Empire, well, as I've decided that they are probally responcible for the disconnets I'll need to crack my knuckle-bones and get to typing the old email customer complaints.
Many thanks, and many more,

We're on the same page. The 'write complaints' part was my sense of humor. You just couldn't see my smile. ;)

The only thing you can do is wait! when you start downloading, you are queued on sources and have to wait until your turn!

F.
Also pay close attention to the value of max. connects and and hard limit source files in the prefference>>connection settings window.
By playing with those to setting you can speed up your downloads. The high the source limit the more bandwith is going to be used by query, but the more soucres you have the better chance you have to start a download. So try keeping source limit high when you first connect. Then once you have some downloads running lower the source limit to no higher than 100, that way the amount of bandwidth that's being expended to send out new querys will decrease and can be used for downloads in progress (because there is less sources to query needlessly).
I hope this was understandable.

DELA... I've followed your tutorial and after many failed attempts in the past to get edonkey/emule to work it now finally does HOWEVER every server I connect to gives me a low ID, how can i get my ID boosted, I'm sharing 130+ files, am running on NTL Broadband 600KBS. What should my settings be for this modem?
I'm frustrated!!!

Are you running a firewall or is it possible that NTL are blocking your emule port??

Try closing the firewall as it may be blocking the client port!

try using a real firewall, I personally like Tiny Personal Firewall for this.. they used to give it away for free but have recently started charging.. you can still get the free version from Kazaa, and it works as well if not better than Norton Personal Firewall!
The built in firewall for XP is crap! Disable it immediately, you can't configure it for Sh!t

I hate norton personal firewall and i hate that damn windows xp integrated firewall too. I use ZoneAlarm Pro, its good but can kill p2p very easily and uses a lot of resources!!

I hear zone alarm is good.. never tried it though.. I have Norton installed now but will probably look into downloading Tiny again soon.. Norton is good, but bulky and less configurable than Tiny.

ZoneAlarm is great, has lots of extra handy features like ad blocking on web sites and stuff like that and cookie control!! Its great to know you're safe when your computer is on 24/7
