Yeah I still live at home and go to school full time, so there's no way I could afford high speed on my own. Hell it takes 2 days to download a PS2 game with a 1.5MB DSL connection. You don't know someone with a DVD burner? Rent games and get them to copy em.

Yeah good deal. I have a friend in Seattle who has a 5.5MB DSL connection, and he's constantly reminding me how slow mine is.

I'm not into downloading and burning games but have friends who own xbox and playstation systems so this info may be useful to them. But what I'm wondering is can the downloaded games from torrent sites and p2p sites be played on regular xbox and playstation systems or do they have to be played on modded systems? Thanks.

I'm not convinced threads like these are the best of ideas, unless you want to get these sites shut down... but I suppose most of these sites are high-enough visibility that if $ony, M$, or Nintendo really wanted to, they would've gone after them already.
Even so... I can't argue with the good sense of keeping a smaller profile.

Why? Especially with the ruling of the High Court in Australia that modchips don't violate copyright laws. Now there's legal precendent that modchips and "backups" are okay. Tons of people download games. I'm not gonna tiptoe around the issue. These are merely links to sites where people can acquire "backups", nothing more.

Heh. Modchips may be legal in *Australia,* but that doesn't necessarily make them legal in other parts of the world. And I rather think that a large majority of the "tons of people who download games" are not, shall we say, downloading them for "backup purposes."
Even Hong Kong, which is not exactly the strictest of copyright enforcers, has started cracking down on BT (if only a little): http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051025-5478.html
To say the aforementioned bittorrent sites are not highly illegal in 99 out of 100 countries (per international copyright law) is either very naive or highly disingenuous.

Hey.
When you download from a Torrent site, you only get a small file, which contains all of the information that a BitTorrent client (e.g. BitComet) needs to download the files.
The main files aren't actually stored on a webserver waiting to be downloaded, but you get parts of the files from loads of different people without having to do anything else.
So basically, all you need is a client...
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500/2.20GHz @ 3.04GHz
4GB DDR2 800MHz / PC2-6400 RAM
4TB Total HDD
NVidia GeForce 7600GS 512MB Graphics Card
Antec Nine Hundred Case / OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU

Well yes. But obviously without the torrents a client is worthless. It's a dependent relationship.

Sorry Tokijin.
What I meant to say was:
"So basically, all you need to make them work is a client..."
I wasn't trying to imply that you don't need the torrrents!
Lol, my bad...that'll teach me to re-read before I post!

This subject has probably been done to death but....
Usenet
Get a decent provider (Giganews etc.)
Get a decent Usenet client (Newsleecher etc.)
Use Newzbin.com (and pay their very low fees)
The largest extra costs involved - the monthtly Usenet provider fees (£10.00 a month for me) - are an extremely low price for a 24/7 maximum bandwidth download frenzy.
In fact even on my little 2Mb connection I wouldnt have the time to burn everything let alone watch use or play it if I left it going full speed all the time.
The only thing I do with Torrents these days is to seed the MAME romset 24/7 (I like to give).

The first page of this thread has a ton of BT sites. The torrent for the game you're trying to download probably just isn't active. You need to search around and find an active torrent. Try a good bit torrent client like Azureus, Bit Tornado, or Bitcomet.

Some game servers check to see if your using a modchip. For those games you would need to disable the modchip. Most newer game servers check for modchips, after the DNA ID is verified, you'll get an error message saying "cheating device detected" and get kicked off. It's pretty hard to get permanently banned from PS2 game servers from what I've read.

I dunno. I 've heard of hjsplit, but I'm not real familiar with it. What type of error message did you get when you tried extracting it with WinRAR? What were you hoping to accomplish by mounting it, just seeing if Windows explorer would read it like a DVD?
