Hi Everybody 

I bought PS3 when it was 1st released paid over £400.00, ever since I?ve been downloading PS3 games directly on my PS3 from the play station store paying for it, I?ve paid substantial amount of money for the games, and all the games are stored on my PS3 60 GB Internal hard drive, is there anyway I can backup these games onto my computer or an external hard drive, how can this be done?? And also I?ve seen a these torrents on Net where you can download PS3 games end play them, I?m a bit confused they seem to be all compressed (winrar) how do I transport them games on to the PS3 and play them, anybody has any ideas or have done this before. Is there a process for it? Help is much appreciated

Cheers dudes 

so what you are saying is that if i install this on my ps3 it could potentially shorten the life of my ps3's laser?

Fat PSP: 3.03 oe-c (will update when i have time :P)

Well it depends on how you use this mod. For an example, when you have an original disc in and the ps3 recognizes it and you dont wait the 8 minutes and 30 seconds for the laser to idle out and the disc to stop spinning and you go ahead and do the swap, then yes you will burn out your laser.

However, if you do wait until the disc and laser stop before you do the swap, then it will be the same as if the mod wasn't even installed.

So it comes down to how you use the mod, if you use it correctly, then your laser's lifespan will be the same as if your not using the mod. And if you don't use it right, it will shorter a lot.

Just got through reading the whole thread... thats one tough pill. This is one awesome mod, and very well documented! I'm a fairly experienced modder, every system has a chip in it (aside for portables). I'd like to help anyway I can.

One thing, I know there are a few things that pertain to the drive in the system menu... such as the Other OS installer, I haven't prepped my PS3 for Linux yet so I dont have it. but if somebody who has could try it out with the ps2 disk in the drive, preferably with the cover off we can see the results of that. I'm not too positive about it... but it's something to try until the guys from swap magic pop out another disk.

Swap Magic 2.0 CD doesn't stop the drive and my DVD ver broke due to overuse :P.

PS. If you guys could possibly simplify the key important features about this thread into the first post it may be a little bit more newbie friendly. Stuff like 10min rule, switch info, where to find a 3v power source, etc. Reading all the newbie attacks asking all these redundant questions gave me a headache -_-;

Edit: Okay, tried the Other OS thing, doesn't pan out unless the disk inserted is detected as an Other OS disk, meaning, it wont do anything if its a ps2 disk... I'm on to try other things, wasn't too positive about this one...

Anybody try messing with the system clock?

do or do not, there is no try...
only the sith think in black and white...

these quotes confuse me, as the first is black and white and is spoken by a jedi master... is Obi Wan saying Yoda is one with the sith?? o_O

I agree, I had to figure out that 2 AAA batteries is a 3v source and never even knew about the 10 min rule. The original poster never mentioned it, his laser is probably fried lol. I never got the multiple switches to work, to retain original functionality. I tried, but ended somehow messing up the disc sensor now, which is ok with me since I don't need it now lol. And the pictures by the original poster were such bad quality and very small, definitely didn't help. I would like to thank the other posters for their nice pictures though, those did help :)

Quick question, whats the word on breaker pro? Breaker pro loads, but I'm not too sure if it stops the disk.

I think that it is very expensive to sent a console 2 times + the costs of the modding. Second hand ps2's who are easy to mod (just buy swap magic) + your ps3 is still 100% original + some ps2 games wont work well on ps3.
Maybe if you tell your country someone can say I live near to you but i think if you really want to play ps2 backups and you cant mod it yourself you better buy a ps2.

Hi! I just finished modding my PS3 following the instructions in this thread.

I tried to do the 3 switches version, but it didn't work because I accidentally broke the sensor's connector (the one that goes in the drive's side, not the in the sensor itself).

So... my question is: Can I get a replacement somewhere? Or would any of you who just cut that cable want to sell it to me?

By the way, I had some problems with PAL games. I'm sure my TV supports PAL signals, because I live in a PAL N region. However, the game Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (PAL) shows in black and white.

And Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 Collectors Edition (PAL too, but a completely different game) doesn't work at all. It shows the PS2 logo, then asks me to press the PS Button in the joypad, and then it just shows a black screen.

Any suggestions?

The game that didn't work wasn't burned right. I burned it again and it worked (although in black and white).

To be able to play PAL games in color, I had to patch them. But now I'm missing part of the screen because of the difference in resolution between PAL and NTSC.

I read somewhere in this thread that some people had played European PS2 games in an American PS3. Did you have this kind of problem?

Anyway, my main concern is the connector I broke. Does anyone have a suggestion about how to replace it?

And what happens when you change some settings in HD upscaling. I have a lcd tc and all games work well if I put upscaling on full screen. (maybe different for non-hd tv's).
About the sensor, can you maybe make the wires of the sensor some longer and then try to solder them on the original place?
Mybe very difficult cause there was almost no space between 2 wires.

Hi there,

I'm really interested in doing this mod, but I just have a few questions to ask about it:

- has anyone found a 3V source somewhere on the PS3?
- would it be possible to use an on-off rocker switch for the mod? Why do the wires have to be diagonally connected on a 3-way switch?
- would it be possible to connect the sensor and original motor connection to the same on-off switch? If so, how would it be done?

Sorry if any of these questions have already been covered somewhere in the thread

Ah, have managed to find answers to the last two questions, but has anyone found a 3V internal source or made a decent attempt at doing so - just want to know before I start poking around with a multimeter.

How have people found playing other region PS2 discs? I have a Japanese PS3 and so far I've tried PAL versions of Resident Evil 4, Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Singstar Party. So far none have played 100% fine - I had to alter the res to 480p for Resident Evil to be recognised, Sonic seemed to run pretty slow and Singstar Party had some songs(about 5) missing.

That power source only gives electricity when you press ''eject''

The whole point of this switch is to bypass that "power source" because the point of the switch is to bypass the fail safes that stop the disk from ejecting at when the system decides that it is an inopportune or opportune time however you would like to look at it.

Oh and woot 500th post ^.^'
