I do prefer using FRAPS over other FPS meters. Especially now Sam showed me the secret to using the benchmark tool ;P

Looks like an interesting game. But it also looks like an online Co-Op game. Much like Left4dead. Not that I don't like left4dead. I simply like one man army games more :D

Wow, I'm lagging - I came back in time to be blown away by Estuansis' Metro Review of 10 days ago!
Hahaha - waving his zippo lighter around in the wind, just to play with it, wasn't enough for Jeff. The first time he saw smoke in the game, he looked around to make sure his PC wasn't on fire!! HAHAHAHA!!

Yes you do need that monitor. Sam was coy, but I finally succumbed and the rest is history! ("History" is correct, I'm still stuck in the P4 time zone - but "maybe in the future" like Kevin says.) Unlike how he reminds us regularly about his 27000 3dmarks, Sam held out for years, never more than vaguely hinting about the satisfaction of the 30" pixel feast, lol.

I've only played halo a few times. It was the designations/names above the people, that reminded me of left4dead. Didn't really do any research into it though. Just watched that video clip.
As for the 30" monitor, I drool about the thought of having it one day, EVERY day LOL!
A buddy at work was telling me about the Console game. I had no idea that it was merely console. He said it looked like it was interesting. I suppose it does. Perhaps one day, it'll bless this thread ;)
I like to change my signature every now and again. Fire was next on my to do list. I like creating things with photoshop. I think my sig could still use work. But it doesn't look too bad for a first attempt :) I've messed with ice before too, but I can't see it fitting in my sig LOL!

Sam, thanks. I know - I've made a promise to myself to hit the forum, if not more than that, at least each weekend - but last weekend was a madhouse! So I came back just in time to see Omega's slippery tactics not quite make it past your watchful eyes, lol, and catch Jeff's awesome powers of description!
Not to mention Shaff, Cincy, Red and Keith (from down under) as everybody in the world except for me is trying new games and upgrading - drool.
So the other guys have leapfrogged with a GTX 480 fermi gpu that is 5-10% faster than the 5870 - but can't be bought at any price? Hahaha. Since they'll have to tie me to a green rack before I abandon the ati camp (no fanboy here) I just skim the nvidia stuff. I did like the fact that XFX, big nvidia partners, have this petunia 5970 coming up, with 6 mini display ports - AS IF (how many dozens of people world-wide are going to invest in 6-way eye-finity?)
I assume that the petunia will also include at least one full dvi port, for those like Kevin who dream about the 30", for those like Jeff who tell themselves they don't really want it (but secretly do) and for those like you and me who already own it!! Hahaha.

they will ahev adaptors, i am sure for DVI.

the eyefinity6 card does not use any DVI ports, it uses all displayport, but comes with 6 adapters, a couple for DVI, HDMI and VGA I believe.
Only XFX's 4GB Petunia card is an eyefinity6 model. The other manufacturers are using standard two DVI + displayport cards.
The HD5870 single GPU card is available as an officially certified 2GB Eyefinity6 model, with every card having 6 displayports on it. The HD5870 2GB singular is not available non-eyefinity except for partner-specific cards like the ASUS Matrix.

So the 5850 should be arriving later today and I'm wondering what driver's I should use. It sounds like most of you who have ati cards don't use the latest drivers, is there something I'm missing (haven't used an ati card in over a decade lol)?

Wow, every time I look, people are complaining about Ati drivers. Really makes me skeptical about switching. Cause while they currently make the best hardware, their drivers leave something to be desired. No fanboyism, just an observation.

I had the same reservation about getting ati, but the alternative (gf100) just wasn't worth the money even if it did have good drivers.
btw it's here :D just need to finish up some work before I can play lol.

why wouldnt we be using the lastest drivers?
i am currenlty using 10.3s. i just dont really announce when i update drivers :P
yes i prefer nvidia drivers over ATI, but really i dont think it makes a difference. not really had a problem with both. well acutally when vista 64 was in its infancy the drivers for nvidia caus bsods, and and win7 ws in beta ati drivers caused the desktop to crash ever 15mins, but in normal systems, never had a problem.
and omega, you dont need to say no fanboyism lol. who would it offend?

im sure even sam wouldnt be pissed off at that, hes always complaining about drivers hurting one game or another. (quad GPUs are a biatch! :P)

The 5850's fan is incredibly loud, 50% sounds like my old gpu at 90%. Hopefully Vapor-x will do it's job and it won't ever get anywhere near that....*wanders off to dream some more*
Respectable enough score though, little more than double my old gpu.
