At least now we know that the CD is the problme. Do you know if your CD's are upgrade version, OEM version, or what. Then if you know someone who has the exact same version IE OEM Or retail then you get a copy of theirs and it will work with your serial. If your version is an upgrade version you have to start the installation with a disc such as Win98 or Win2k and then swap as I suggested earlier. If your copy of windows came with a commercial PC such as HP then it requires that some of the information is already installed on your hard disk drive because they are not full copies. The important thing is that we have\ to identify exactly where your discs originated to proceed.

I'll be honest, I have been stuck here before, and the only occasions it happened, I had a bad CD.

Theone: Indeed, I didn't feel the need to make a big thing out of it, but despite its reduced size, the P35-DS3L for example is still a full ATX motherboard.

Put in all eight. Some boards like the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 an the Asus P5K Pro require only 4 pins, but they aren't even full ATX. The Rampage Formula is and you will need all 8 pins.

I really wish you would get your facts straight! You do not need all 8 pins! That's why they ship it with the plastic cover over the other 4. It's recommended to use all 8 (DUH!) but will work with just the un-capped 4.

Your statement about ATX/Full ATX is nonsense too. All that refers to is the form factor! There's ATX and Mini ATX, there is no "Full ATX" motherboards except maybe in advertising! The difference is that the Mini ATX is slightly smaller, not that it's inferior to the ATX, as you seem to be implying! The main difference between the two form factors is the location of the screw holes for the motherboard stand-offs. Most decent cases today handle both form factors without issue!

Back in 1995 Intel came up with the ATX for the Pentium Pro. This was the first motherboard to provide the 4 pin plug to directly supply power from the PSU to the CPU. The sole purpose was to relieve the motherboard from having to regulate the CPU voltage, depending on the power supply to do it instead! Less strain on the MB power supply and less heat generated by the MB! The main reason it was designed was because of the rising power demands of the CPU were putting too much load on the 20 pin power plug and connector to the motherboard and would sometimes burn up or melt the power plug and motherboard connection! I've seen a number of them with the MB power plug all brown and black from the heat generated.

Respectfully,
Russ

agreed :)

and when Ocing its always best to have all 8 pins :)

If it meant something from a technical standpoint, it might be meaningful, but it doesn't! The only ones that make a "seemingly" big deal out of it are cheap case manufacturers, in their specs! I guess they figure "Full ATX" in their specs actually means something special, when all it means is that you can install an ATX motherboard in it! ROFLMAO!!

Because when you overclock, the power demand goes up and it spreads the demand between both. You could do the same thing with a heavier duty 4 prong plug and heavier wiring! Since it's easier to manage smaller wires and smaller MB plugs, the choice to go with 8 pins makes sense!

Russ

One more question. Will it be alright to leave the 1st DVD RW at Master, and the second Drive when I put it back as Cable select or should I make it Slave, or should I put them both at Cable Select
Set one to master and the other to slave, it doesn't matter in which order they are on the cable.

Officially, there is no higher speed DDR2 memory than 800MHz. 1066MHz memory is 800MHz chips that have been binned, selected and checked for their ability to run at 1066 MHz. Some motherboards report them as 800 while others will report them as 1066. It's all in the bios ability to read them. My eMachine shows my 1066 Dominators as 800MHz while my DS3R shows them as 1066! Yet Memtest on both boards shows them as 1066!

EDIT: to clarify DDR2

Russ

This is the case I just built 4 my Grandson
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119129
Its heavy when its done, But lots of room to stuff wires and keep them away from the Brd 4 cooling looks neat and tidy for a totally enclosed case..Sure wish all Brd makers would put the sata on top instead of side mount

Anybody got any suggestions as to how to make this copy of WinXP W/SP3 that I have BOOTABLE on this Rampage Brd that we've been trouble shooting. I can't figure it out its booted on 3 other ASUS Brds
I've followed all instructions on how to make an XP Bootable Disc
This has been the best and most Staple XP that I've ever had, its fast and reliable
I can install it from windows, but down the line if something should go wrong(HEAVEN FORBID), it would be nice 2 know it will boot & install

I thought that you had things working? If your disc is an original copy in good shape then you should have made it happen by now. If you were able to boot with disc then there may be suggestions in this forum that now apply. I know this might sound a little self centered, but go back and read the posts that ddp and I made earlier. You are trying to install an SATA drive and WinXP doesn't have native support for it, but most recent boards chipset southbridge has compensated for it. Remember hwere I suggested that you go into your bios and change your SATA drive to act as an IDE drive? This will allow windows to use it in emulation mode from SATA to IDE and you should be able to install windows. If you do as I suggested earlier and disable every drive but your install DVD Rom drive that should get you started. What I quite understand from the information that you've provided is why things didn't go on after you began your reformat. Please help us with all the information that you can so that we can help you.

Sophocles..All my problems started at power on for the first time..I did all that U suggested, except the SATA to IDE in Bios. I disabled all but DVD DRIVE, but it still would not boot..Finally I found an older Ver that a friend burned 4 me and it booted, but another problem occurred. At the Lic agreement screen F8 would not work, so I shut it down changed key brds and USB PORT, and it worked..I'm pretty sure I read everything that was suggested, and followed with strict attention. Other then that SATA, IDE. The SATA HDD under SATA Configuration says Enhanced IDE. I don't know what else to change, so I left it
But I'm STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS ONE PARTICULAR Disc, it refuses to boot on that Computer

rick5446,

Are you sure you must boot this CD? I had SP3 on a CD, and I just double-cliked on the EXE, and all was good.

I don't quite understand the Question...(Are you sure you must boot this CD). Yes I can start it when Windows is up and running. But on all the other Computers, installing from scratch it Booted. But not this one. If by chance in the future my Grandson has problems I don't want him to have to load 2 separate WinXP .I would like to see if this can be made into a start from scratch CD, which it is on all the other Computers. I don't understand why it does not boot on this particular Computer

rick, try another rom drive as current one appears to not like the sp3 disk but does like sp1/sp2 disk that you are using now. sp3 can be downloaded & installed when doing windows updates.
