Still doesn't work. Changed .ini file to read-only, made sure diffusepass value was at 0, saved as read-only, launched, opened video settings, clicked return.....CRASH! I even deleted the OblivionLauncher (it's in the recycle bin currently)

I'll screw around with this a little more when I wake up, I'll probably try re-downloading everything and making sure the shaders are set up properly, I'm starting to suspect that, for whatever reason, the shaders you provided didn't get put in it's right place.

I tried all the above mentioned .ini fixes, I have the new shader pack (Which helped a LOT!)

I even tried running Oldblivion.

Oldblivion puts my framerate from around 2-5fps up to at least 30, probably closer to 60; I can't really tell. Mostly because the prison walls are see-through, my hands look like something from quake2, except that they are transparent; and I can see every window in the prison from anywhere in the prison, because there are big white and blue chunks wherever they are, and I can see through everything; so it's never a problem finding them... Looking around the cell you start in, everything is just all kinds of jumbles and graphical errors.... I read that oldblivion had shotty FX support; and I can certainly see why now.

Aside from oldblivion, it looks like my framerate is maxing out around 10-15 when I don't have too much on screen. I did the ini fixes, and the shaderpack. Can anyone suggest anything else for my little old FX5700le? I really am interested in running this game, I can't return it since I opened it, and the bottom of the box said that my system would run it. (Yes, the package says GeForce FX Series) I don't normally play games on such bad settings; but I am just so interested in this game, that I'm more than willing to do so.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I cannot replace the video card; I don't have the spare cash, and the video card was just replaced in January (I had a ti4800 beforehand), so it would be a waste anyways. It astounds me that I can run BF2 so well, when so many people are challenged by it; but I can't squeeze a few extra frames from Oblivion.

Any other suggestions would be more than appreciated.

Hi all. Thanks already to Jizmak for all his help on this thread!

My specs:
Asus A9250 ATI Radeon 9250 8X AGP 128 MB DDR
Athlon 2400+ 1.59Ghz chip
768MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM

Without tweaks I got only the white screen problem with my Radeon 9250. I used the 5 steps Jizmak gave in his other post. I am very happy playing this game with the setup I have gotten it into, but I'd like to know if I can make it even better, with full view distance so that I can appreciate the landscapes.

The only things I have trouble with now are these: Strange looking water, blue trees unless I use a ridiculous "setfog" value, and trees floating in the air far off.

I've installed the patch to remove the purple water, but my water now looks like a solid, flat blue tint which I can see through perfectly in close range, but is completely solid, opaque bright blue at far range. Is there any way to tweak this? I'd like the water to look more like water and less like "blue tint" if possible.

First, here is a shot of the water effect and the blue trees effect still happening at far range with setfog 100000 100000:

I can use setfog x x to get rid of the blue trees thing. However, I find that in large areas I can still see the far trees as blue unless I use some crazy number like setfog 3000000 3000000. (that's three million!) Is there any reason not to use something really high like three million? Is there another way to handle this bad fog effect without just turning this value up?

Here's a screenshot of the floating trees:

As I approach the floating trees, the ground gets drawn in as I get close when it loads the area, but until I'm that close the trees just float as if the game expects the ground to be drawn below them. I'd like the whole ground to be drawn the whole time. Is this possible with the tweaks?

Any help would be great,

Tektite

Give me a break, will you?

FX users should run oldblivion ver .11t.
Radeon and other non fx nvidia cards should be using ver .12t

I will link to the Oldblivion version for fx users here:
http://www.oldblivion.com/test/oldblivion_0.11t1.zip

@ Tektite

As far as the trees rather than using setfog command,
Try using TLB in the console.
Should fix the trees for now.
Asp is going to fix the fog in the next version of Oldblivion
From what Asp says on his website 'tlb' is the only fix right now.
As fog has not been correctly implemented yet.

You can add the water featires individually in the .ini file,
To make the 'effects' more real (water depth, relflections ect..)
Howvwer you will lose framerate adjusting these values.
But you may able to find a good medium between playablity and
eyecandy.

bUseWaterReflectionsMisc=0
bUseWaterReflectionsStatics=0
bUseWaterReflectionsTrees=0
bUseWaterReflectionsActors=0
bUseWaterReflections=0 <---change for more realistic water
bUseWaterHiRes=0 <--- This
bUseWaterDisplacements=0
bUseWaterShader=0 <--Not running Oldblivion will cause a crash
uDepthRange=0 <---- (I wouldnt go over 5-10 ft)
bUseWaterDepth=0 <---Change to 1 for cloudy deep water
bUseWaterLOD=1

bUseWaterShader=1
Will cause users to crash UNLESS your running oldblivion.
If you are running Oldblivion you can change this to 1 and
have realistic water at the sacrifice of framerate.

If you guys still have problems feel free to check Asp's
oldblivion FAQ it can be found here:

http://www.oldblivion.com/wiki/tiki-view_faq.php?faqId=1

Cheers

I have this thin gray cloud everywhere I go. It's about 4 feet off the ground and it covers the entire floor anywhere I go. It's about not thick at all... like an ugly floating grey carpet. Any ideas? I'm using the oldblivion (fx suggested one) with a 5700 ultra.

Ok, I guess I'll just have to tweak the graphics in the .ini if I want to adjust the graphics quality. But really, since I downloaded the oldblivion .11t1 (I was using .11t2), the game has actually run better. Not nearly as choppy. Using TLB and adjusting the setfog has really, really helped.

Also set the .ini file to read-only and the settings remained the same after I adjust them.

Thanks for the help Jizmak, I think my problems (for the most part) are solved.

Edit: Had to finish a sentence. *blush*

Q: I have green or grey "blobs" that don't have collision all over my terrain, or I can't see distant landscape. How do I fix that?
A: You have to edit your Oblivion.INI and change fLODLandVerticalBias from 0 to -1200 (yes, minus 1200).

Q: My distant trees are in the air. What to do?
A: This had not been fixed yet.

@ kruagh

Turn off bloom in the options menu.
Should correct the 'aura' problem.

@ lastrednk

Glad you got the game where you can enjoy it.
I prefer playability over eyecandy but as long as you
are happy with the results THAT is all that matters.

@ Everyone

Good night and see you all some time tomorrow!

I applied the patch, and my framerates are like the ones that I'm used to on every other game now, which is absolutely wonderful. But I've got a pretty hefty set of graphical snaffoos.

The objects in the distance (I would say 15ft from the character) aren't yet drawn, so I'll see the top part of a pillar, but there will be a gap where the actual pillar is until I get about 10ft. from it, when it is suddenly drawn in, even though all the details around it were already drawn in before...

I understand draw distance, but some things aren't drawing in until I'm about to touch them, it's causing some gameplay troubles.

If I adjust the in-game draw distances, would that fix this? Or is this more directly related to the .11 patch?

If anyone could assist me with making the draw distance more than about 10 or 15 ft.; I would greatly appreciate it. If it is of any informative benefit; I'm also noticing that the actual characters draw at about 30 ft (Which can make for a very irritating 'people of the fog' look...)

Thanks in advance!

Almost forgot, another possible reason Oblivion may be playing better was because I also updated my nVidia drivers. Every other program seems to be running just a bit better now since I downloaded the new drivers, actually.

The fix is for the fx series cards that the box was
stated to be compatible.
It did absolutly nothing for me on my 9200se,
The only changes are for FX users which I am not.

I am eager to apply it tonight, because I really want to see both the fix listed earlier (For my draw distance issue) and this new fx patch...... It's upsetting when they list your video card and don't support it. :/

But at least it's being made to work now, which is good.

Thanks again to all for being so helpful! I really appreciate it.

I do find it ironic that the 5700 is considered a low end fx card. Considering the 5700le is actually one of the best performers in the FX series, second to the fairly rare FX5950.... I've never seen any other software have issue with this card; everything else runs flawlessly. BF2, FarCry, HL2, CS:Source, etc, etc. It's just so weird that they had this issue in the first place. But hey, they fixed it, so I'm happy with my 'low end fx card'. Happier than I would be with a 6200. lol.

Q: I have green or grey "blobs" that don't have collision all over my terrain, or I can't see distant landscape. How do I fix that?

A: You have to edit your Oblivion.INI and change fLODLandVerticalBias from 0 to -1200 (yes, minus 1200).

Check these distance settings in the OBLIVION.INI file.

In order to fix the Land issues:

Open your oblivion.ini and make the changes listed below.
(The ini located in My Documents\My Games\Oblivion is what you are looking for).
The file located in your Oblivion game directory which is called Oblivion_default.ini is NOT what you want to edit.)

I patched it this morning, and it has all kinds of weird issues.... I'm going to take a look at it again when I get home. But I was seeing failures and crashes at load; a couple times it wouldn't even load the intro video...... Weird. I will try reinstalling and starting over again. I'll let everyone know.

So far this 'FX' patch seems to really like my FX5700le..... lol

The top link for the patched oblivion.exe doesn't seem to be working. It takes me to the megaupload site and doesn't have anything to click on for download. Am I missing something?

If so, can someone PM it to me?

I've already tried using the Oldblivion program, and it doesn't seem to run at all (hourglass comes up then goes). I'm thinking it's that .exe file...

The file is there.
Since is is FREE HOSTED there is an AD first,
And about a minute delay after before you can download the file.
Try again and make sure you CLOSE the megauplpoad links box.
The link will appear underneath that box.

I concur. I have rent, gas, car insurance, electric bill, phone bill, and food expenses to worry about for two people. So instead of going into a thread where people are being productive and helping eachother run a game on slightly older systems and bragging about your new video card; why don't you find some other people to pester. We don't care. Quite frankly; I've been in the overclocking and tweaking communities since 1995 (I remember the epic race to squeeze more frames from mechwarrior 2; those were the days). And to be quite frank, people learning to get the extra frames from current hardware have managed a far greater achievement than you.

So you've got extra money to blow, it helps when your parents buy everything for you. Or maybe you inherited money. Or maybe you even worked for it, at least I'll allot yu some dignity there.

Clearly, you don't have to come up with at least $1400 a month just to break even on your bills and unnavoidable costs. I congratulate you on having the forsight to be born and still too young to have these burdens. As for the rest of us; we have real overhead, and real costs that we must meet. So please, pardon us, in our productiveness.

I think you'll find that everyone on this website is just as eager to hear about your wonderful fortune in getting a nicer video card that costs more money.

Now; I've been around the block with this garbage, more than my fair share of times. We all know, and I mean EVERY ON OF US that your next response (If you bother to check the threads you post in) will be that I'm completely wrong, and that you are actually a successful gentleman who has a good paying job and made smart choices; and that you are so much better than me, because clearly you are rich and I am poor.

Now; here's why we all know it's bullcrap:

Successful people are not bored people. Successful people do not sit around and brag to random people they've never met, about their new hardware. Successful people are only successful BECAUSE of this. They only succeed because they get off their duff and do something, because by their very nature, they are interested in taking a situation and making it better, by any means necessary. They are the ones who take initiative to utilize the resoruces they acquire. This is why they are successful in the real world.

Now; let's profile you a bit better. There are really two options here. We'll just call them A and B.

A.) You are a young adult(or even a slightly smarter, and infinitely more prideful kid) who has the wonderful chance to have their parents support them. You go to school, you study a bit; and your parents make sure that all costs are taken care of. Maybe you got a part-time job and paid for your computer; most likely you didn't. Most likely your parents either decided it was time johnny got a new computer; or you were able to convince them. That's lovely, and that's great. But that's nothing to brag about.

B.) You are in your mid 20's; might go to college, might not. Live with your parents still, occasionally in the basement, depending on your zip code's permittance *L* and you love nothing more than a good 12 hour sitting on Counter Strike, Battlefield 2, or your MMO drug of choice. You work a bit, and get to keep most of the money, except for a little bit that goes to bills; because hey, you're an adult now; and you have to pay for something. So, after a paycheck or two; you decided that you either should upgrade your computer.

Realistically; I will actually be so bold as to say that I am 100% certain that you are one of these. And no amount of argument will convince me otherwise. Your juvenile, unwanted, and unhelpful post says it all for you. You can't judge a book by it's cover, but the words inside make all the details clear. And you've made it clear that you have nothing better to do.

Between the two types; I'm going to guess you're A. Because you're posting during the day time. And if you were B, and not working or going to your next 'anime drawing' class; you'd be sitting in front of your computer, eating funyuns and drinking mountain dew while you play, and your proud collection of pewter figurines would watch over you in all their glory. Instead, you're rich kid loser A. Rich kid loser A thinks he knows a lot about computers, because his mommy bought him a nice one. And because it runs games well. Rich kid loser A usually catches a virus about a year later and doesn't know what to do, and then moves on to either a new hobby or a new computer. Rich kid loser A is my choice for you, for two reasons.

-Rich kid loser A is in school right now, posting on these boards, because they are the only gaming related site his school hasn't blocked yet.
-Because, while B has a couple friends for both occasional D&D sessions and big online raids; rich kid loser A actually has no real friends. Nobody likes rich kid loser A. Because rich kid loser A is ultimately a class A loser.

Hope you liked that.

*EDIT* Just checked your name. Thanks a bunch, that was the real final kick. You are rich kid loser A. Your parents don't know what to do with you, because you're so "Misunderstood" and so they buy you things to try and compensate; and then you get the only satisfaction in life from bragging about these things, then pretending you don't care. Occasionally, someone will show some interest; because they like something, but ultimately they will dissapear fast, because they never liked you; they liked your possessions. It's funny how that goes. But not as funny as how easily you are profiled to a finite tee.
