You are running Oldblivion to run the game itself,
and not the Oblivion.exe right.

If not that is the problem right there.
If you are running Oldblivion open the oldblivion.cfg
file and change the render passes from 7 to 3 or 4.

I cant understand why SLP would crash the game,
Unless you were NOT running oblivion,
OR you didnt update the Shaderpackage001.

Keep me posted you should be able to getr this fixed.

Yes I am running Oldblivion itself

I had not installed the shader fixes.. but I did and still I tried both TLB and SLP 1 (different times obviously) and SLP 1 still crashes my computer.

The render passes was already at 3.. so I tried 4. It did not work.. then I tried up at 7.. that did not work then I tried 1 and 2.. That didn't work..

FX users should run oldblivion ver .11t.
Radeon and other non fx nvidia cards should be using ver .12t

If your running the right versdion,
Let ASP know your problem on his site,
(he is the creator of Oblivion),
You will need to upload a copy of your .ini file
as well as your saved game at otr close to the freezing point.

http://www.oldblivion.com/wiki/tiki-view_faq.php?faqId=1

(You can upload to megaupload for free).
As an added bonus I will add my .ini at the bottom,
If you are running a radeon card you can try my tweak
setup and see if it helps.

Second post in the first page of the thread,
(My first post.)
You will need to download and replace some existing files,
(Have Oblivion installed first),
And you need to download Oldblivion and thats what you will use
to run the game on an unsupported card.
All is explained on the first page.
Follow the insturctions and let me know if you have trouble.

Hi all, wonderful little site you have here

I need some help, as I have the same problem. I have tried everything on this thread (and everything on the oldblivion.com forums) and no luck so far. My problem is the same as a few posts up, it crashes when the NPC is trying to cast the spell. I have a Radeon 9200SE, 128 MB - P4 2.4 MHz, 512 MB RAM.

I have also taken an screenshot of the debugger and posted it on oldblivion.com, if someone thinks it could be of help I can put it here as well.

@ Jizmak: I have tried your .ini file as well, no luck

Tks!

Are eveyones ATI drivers updated?
Is the control center running?
There was a tweaked ati driver setup,
for oblivion istelf.
I will try to find where I saw that,
All I can see is that it might be a driver issue,
I have a 9200se and havent seen that crash yet.

Good luck

I just got my 1080p monitor with MY PC going DVI to the TV. Lookd sweet. I still have yet to buy a video card, but now I think I need one for sure. I tried playing FEAR and it was choppy as all hell. Will a new video card make it run decent? or do I have to upgrade my Mem too? I am hoping by just upgrading the card I will get by...
Here are my specs. What card can I get for 100 or less that will do the job?

Video Card
Minimum: 128MB Direct3D compatible video card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700+ / ATI Radeon 9500+)
You Have: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 (GeForce4 Ti 4200) FAIL: Sorry, your video card does not meet this minimum requirement. Upgrade to a more powerful video card will make all your applications look better. Click the 'We Recommend' button to see some great options.

When I install oblivion its fine, then I click on play now and it never starts up. It says it coud not read something. But I checked the system requirements and it should work.

What do you recommend?

The shader fix's changes the gfx to dx8 compatiable.
The .exe fix is a Video specific fix.
It does NOT change the renderer or shaders.
Only the .exe file replacement,
The others Oldblivion textures...ect WILL change the renderer.

Can you use PCI-E? Or are you stuck with AGP?

Basically, if you have PCI-E, than you can get one anywhere.

If you're using some flavor of AGP, then you're really stuck, because newer cards are hardly made using that form factor, and they are more expensive. My Geforce fx 5700le (One of the higher fx series) costed around $150 to get in agp, even back in january, that was honestly way more than it should have been, but after doing some serious looking all over the internet, that was the best around, and it was some little hole in the wall website.

So, hopefully, you've got a PCI-E bus. That would make your search so easy, otherwise, well.... Hope you're ready to scour for something that really won't be worth your time or money.

@ Kidcapo

It sounds like your video card isnt supported.
Read my POST the second one on the first page.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/327012/1908347

It has all the fixes needed to get the game working on
older unsupported cards.

Supported Video Card Chipsets:
ATI X1900 series
ATI X1800 series
ATI X1600 series
ATI X1300 series
ATI X850 series
ATI x800 series
ATI x700 series
ATI x600 series
ATI Radeon 9800 series
ATI Radeon 9700 series
ATI Radeon 9600 series
ATI Radeon 9500 series
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 series

If your card IS NOT in this list you MUST run the fixes and shaders.
If it is supported then its probably a driver issue.
Post back with some system speca and maybe
even a save file before the point it freezes.
(you can upload to megaupload.com free of charge.)

You can try my tweaked .ini file
setup and see if it helps.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=80LA97CD

Good luck and welcome to the forums.
