I've always though that it's one of the freshest and most innovative peices of enterainment tech.
What they want to do with the online by making it free is also very awesome

well yeah it does but we can't realistically expect a free sevice to fully compete with a paid subsciption service.
If it's as functional as live i'm telling you live will loose alot of subs

Well, the two systems will have very good fanbases, but very different ones too. They are two very different kinds of hardware, and two very different ways to play. I have a 360, I had an XBox, and I play on Live. I will be getting a Wii, and I will play online, but this will never take away from my Live subscription, because the variety from Nintendo's system is so much different.
It's like comparing the DS and the PSP, one system has faster hardware, the other an entirely new input function; but they are too different to compare. People who have both play both, because the games are so completely different. Saying someone would discontinue XBox Live for WiiConnect24(I hope they change that, it's way too long to catch on) is like saying "Now that I have peanut butter, I'm going to stop drinking fluids!" You consume both of them, and they both sustain you, but they are still completely different experiences.
And who knows, maybe M$ will lower their monthly cost to keep ahead. Either way, I plan to use both, because I learned with the DS that Nintendo's approach to alternative input can really make a brand new kind of fun. And I think this system will deliver the same value.

Thank you, it really is that different. The PS2's online service was free, but it was terrible, henceforth it really never launched much (Save the Socom clans and a few other fanatics).

Well all they have to do is offer is simple services rather than just leaving you to play online only it would be cool. Personally i don't mind advertising to fund a service that I use so they have that option too

Yeah, there is a rumor that some MMO's might even start utilizing that, opposed to fees. Some of the ones that seem more likely were EQII(I think they're willing to try anything that they think offers some chance of a return ontheir investment), and CoH (They are considering a somewhat prominent billboard system, which given the type of game and atmosphere, I don't think people would mind if it were free.)
But yeah, ads are definitely a great way to pack more features in without cost. Otherwise I do fear that Nintendo's online service might suffer the same as PS2's barely existent support for online.

Quote: WiiConnect24(I hope they change that, it's way too long to catch on)
I don't think that's what they are calling their online gaming service. They called WiiConnect24 a feature of the Wii where it would be constantly connected to the Nintendo network even when it's turned off, that way they can stream live updates or other special things while the console is turned off. Many people expect an Animal Crossing game for the Wii to use this extensively so that friends can visit your town while your console is turned off.
I'm expecting a name similar to the DS' "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection" maybe the Nintendo Wii-Fi Connection? haha

Being able to visit any town whether the console is on or off would be pretty cool

oh wow...now that's really cool. i wonder if it will only be a few select games on each system (like the big hits) or if there will be a massive collection and choice of games.
