I'm a little wasted, so forgive me if I sound like a newb.
But honestly, I don't really care who wins the console war. I would be happy if Nintendo gained back at least some of the market share.
The big thing is that a lot of us here on these forums don't share the same mentality and trends as do the normal consumer populous. The Wii certainly made some headway at e3, but honestly it would be naive to be certain as to whom will win the next gen war.
I wish the big N the best of luck, as to the 360 and ps3. All three consoles are going to be sweet, no doubt in my mind. But most of us here are different than the general public, as in we have 1.) more knowledge about the matters, and 2.) most of us here are loyal fans of a particular brand.
We'll see.

personally i think after the first year after the wii is released i think they would have cought up with the xbox 360. so i think wii will win, but xbox 360 will be close behind, and ps3 in third.

Nope. I want the nentindo to win, but remember sega and atari? MS and sony have way to much money unfortunatly.Plus now that the psp is taking some of the handheld market and rumors of ms coming out with a handheld next year the future looks gloom for the once mighty nintendo.add the fact that the one handed controller may or may not catch on,name sounds eastern,it doesn't support hd and so forth.But hey it will be cheaper then the other consoles most likely so who knows
Which console deserves to win the war? nintendo has been around longer,has been more influential,and is original...I think we know who deserves it, but who has the money.

Well it sure isn't Sony. I don't think they deserve to when they have to "borrow" ideas rather than invent them. That makes them look pretty poor in my eyes. And since Sony is losing so much money on the Ps3 cost, we'll see who has more money in the outcome.

In the long run no one will win because we will all be broke. And besides why not invest into something more useful like a computer. You can play games and with a decent computer the graphics always look better than any console. Like a alienware or just custom make yours like i did and i prefer mine than any other console.I admit I still play on a console system every now and then put this is my opinion and other people have theirs so it all works out for me.

And that's a major difference between Sony/MS and Nintendo. Sony/MS are basically making their consoles more and more like a computer. I think that a couple generations of consoles down the line will might as well buy a computer because that is how the systems will be.
Nintendo on the other hand is sticking completely to pure gaming. Yes it will beable to play dvd's and such but only if you buy an extension for it. When you purchase it, it is all about gaming.

ben2006 : I'm a big pc gamer and I'll tell you why many console gamers don't want to play on the pc.The keyboard and mouse instead of a gamepad is hard to use.You spend most of your time tweeking the setting's,overclocking,patching,installing ..etc trying get the best possible experience.
But the biggest reason is that ati and nvidea come out with a new graphics card every month trying to top each other.Same with intel.You see there's always some new technology.And when your card get's old your obsolete.Combine this with the fact that the newest graphics cards cost as much as a console and walla.

the Wii or 360 will win. PS3 is just a copy of wii controller and xbox live. they made it Blu_Ray because they thought that it would give them some sort of advantage. (oh yea and another thing.... HALO 3!!)

for a console to win, it needs to have world-wide appeal, and i'm afraid sony is the only one that has it. case in point;
xbox fairs extremly poorly in japan/asian, but can hold it's ground in western nations.
gamecube is the other way round, it's doing well in it's home market but can't get a look in most western nations.
ps2, tops sales charts all over the world.

Well I believe sony will win as far as sales ,but to say nintendo doesn't have world wide appeal is just dumb.I grew up with nintendo and beleive me when you say the name mario,donkey kong,yoshi,etc...people look up and know automatically what your talking about.
I actually love that chart you posted cause look closely. If you combine all nintendo systems including handhelds and you have them pretty much a leader in the industry.Far ahead of microsoft.
But what's even more interesting is that nintendo has far less money than sony and ms.Therefore less hype,comercials,and buying off people for good reviews (halo).lol.

On Innovation The Nintendo Wii deserves the crown
On Content PS3 deserves to win due to its versatility
On Quality Xbox 360 - The Xbox in my mind was the most well made console (although if it fell on someone it could leave them permanently incapacitated lol) especially the Xbox S controller.
To be honest though, i think Sony (although i have found most games i've enjoyed and purchased have been on the PS2 and PSX) are developing a negative image. They really haven't done thing right by consumers for a while now - with the exception of the platinum range, which was closely emulated by MS (Classics) and Nintendo (Gamers Choice). How long has the suggestion for more than two controller ports to be featured on their console gone unnoticed? Sure now they've rectified it, but the Xbox and GC had 4 ports, while the poor consumers fell victim to Sonys greed by having to shell out for god damn multi tap!
Now with their higher price tag - and speculation about the whole 2nd hand market abolishment (probably untrue but worth a mention) - along with their blatant last minute emulation of Wii's innovative controller, they are really starting to piss me off; and i don't think I'm alone.
I'm not anti-Sony - i've experienced many many hours of enjoyment out of both their previously released consoles - but MS seems to do things better, and i really don't wanna see Nintendo go down like Sega did. Because lets face it, Nintendo and Sega are the ones who made the video games industry palatable with numerous quality consoles of their own. Sony and Microsoft are only now tapping into the market, and probably only to upsize their already considerable empires, after realising that the Video game industry has come of age.

ps3 will win better games, and graphix. there is only redsteel on the wii. gow, and halo 3 on x360. and abou 30 great games coming out for the ps3.

Yeah. If it wasn't for such ruthless competition, we'd still have a Sega console released every 5 years. I think the Wii is gonna prevent the same thing from happening to Nintendo, but i hope they're not reduced to releasing third party games someday...

Do you think that Nintendo will be part of the war even though they said they were not going to compete with MS and Sony? Because if all the hype about the Wii is true then I think they should go for it and try and beat them because i think they are going to do far better this time around then last time.

Yeah. They are definitely causing more of a fuss with the Wii than they did with the Gamecube. I don't think they can topple Sony, but i think they can probably get neck and neck with MS, if not beat them by a small margin (especially because of the Japanese market, i think they'll have a good share in that one). I really don;t think it's a war. No matter what happens, Nintendo will be around for a long time in the VG industry. To be honest I'm sick of hearing about this 'war' - let's just get to the games; All three companies are rich bastards anyway lol!

PC is best for most types of games...(i mean RTS and fps on console...just for noobs who need aimbots really :P )
But Wii is bringing something new to console gaming which i think should make it the victor!
But...of course all the idiots are going to be "Ooooh! HD graphics...dont have a HD TV but still HD! OMG!" They will go and buy a PS3 or xBox and say how wonderful it is...when really they are playing the same games they played on the ealier consoles just with a few thounsand more pixels...

Touche Hade ;) I think Ofolion means however, that people will be drawn to the novelty of HD and top-end graphics (which will entail similar if not exact gameplay as previous generation consoles albeit with a graphical overhaul) on Xbox 360 and PS3 rather than the innovation such as the new controller Nintendo have designed for Wii, which in turn will lead to a change in the types of games developers will produce to accomodate the features/advantages of the controller, or simply the way you play games (ala Red Steel). Ofolion is that correct? However I guess motion sensing technology could also be seen as a gimmick and thus not a true innovation by some.
