Re Win7 - i can't get my HP Laserjet 4L's working (no drivers), no problem (they're ancient anyway, didn't really expect them to have drivers in this day and age), i just print from linux and XP machines (plus one of my Win7 machines is dual booted with linux anyway).
As to networking, no problems at all over the months under Win7 on two Dell machines. As to loads of other programs working under Win7, see here ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/769480/4661854 - i compiled that list back in May, haven't had a need to update it since

erkrow22,
I'm not trying to ignore your questions, nor is anyone else, but none of the links you provided work. They are either off sale, or somehow your links got messed up, since I have no trouble making my Newegg links work. It would also help if we know if you plan to overclock or not!
That being said, I would like to comment on a few of your choices, as I think they are not the best choice for your money! There are much better cases available for about the same amount of money than those made by Gigabyte, that are more modern in design, and offer much better cooling potential, tool-less drive mounting, all modular plug-in front panel wiring, 5 5.25" bays instead of 4, and sideways mounted hard drive bay for 3 HDDs, which keep the hard drives much cooler than a conventional case with front/rear drive mounting. I also happen to own one, so I have my own experience with it going for me. This is what I have!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119106
I would also recommend a 790/750 chipset over the 770/710. Something like this, without the on-board graphics.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128378
A far better value for the $30 price difference (after $15 MIR), over the MSI. I have the same motherboard in DDR2. I understand your gaming forum wanting to build as cheap as possible, but the difference is worth way more than $30 in the features it offers. It's a much better value for your dollar, that's easily expandable to the latest Phenom II Quad cores. The biggest plus for you, is no on-board graphics, so you aren't wasting money on something you'll never use. It's got more than enough bells and whistles and the quality is outstanding.
Please give us some working links for the rest of the parts, and we'll see what we can recommend there too!
Best Regards,
Russ

Got my Athlon II x4 Quad this morning. Man it's fast! 46,000+ MIPS and almost 8000 on the memory bandwidth, running at stock speed! WOW! I'm going to leave it set this way for a little while, and then begins the OC! LOL!! CPU temp is 29-30C. Everything is on auto except the memory which is set to EPP control! I'm going to encode a DVD and see how that works with 4 cores!

Oman7,
Yes, but not the 2009. I just don't much like the 2009 as it doesn't seem to be relevant to anything. You can only compare to others that have it. Everything is different and that damn flipping the screens around. I wouldn't mind it as much if they would give you a manual mode for the individual screens. I'm going to put it in and see what it does with it. The CPU temp never even got to 40C while encoding. Runs sweet!

Russ

Be sure to post up some results and benchies to compare. I'm curious to see them in action outside of a potentially biased testing site. You have a good 790 board with good RAM, though I think you could use a bump up to a Corsair/Seasonic on the PSU personally.
Good luck and godspeed!

@Omega, Smart Defrag is actually one of the slowest ones. Try Auslogics as it's way more powerful and has more options for optimizing the drive. If you don't want the complicated interface try Defraggler. Both have proven much faster than Smart Defrag on my systems and I have 2 1TBs and several 500GBs.

So those of you on win7 how's it all working out? Mine went in to a BSOD fit after 6 days of uptime just like the RC so it's been replaced till I can figure out what the cause is. Guessing it might be bad RAM (again) but all of them passed memtest a few months ago, plus and this problem is only present with win7 and the win7 RC which makes me think it's a software failure.

Estaunsis,
I'm going to find out what it can do and then I'm going to back it down to about 3.5-3.6 GHz. I'm not interested in running it at it's limits because if something happens to me, Russell would have no idea what to do with it if it started crashing. I'm not in the best of health, and it goes to him anyway, if something happens to me. It's already more than twice as fast as the 7750 now, and a couple of thousand MIPS isn't going to make that much difference anyway. It's plenty fast right now.
You are dead right about Auslogics DeFrag. It's the best I've ever used!
Thanks again,
Russ

Bigwill68,
Here you go Will!
Processor Arithmetic
I ran CPUz on it to show the true clock speed (3.611GHz), so don't have a heart attack. It's running at the CPUz speed. About what I expected, as most tests I've seen show the Athlon II x4 630 a little better at CPU Math than the Phenom II x4 940 at the same speed.
CPUz
It will go to a little over 3.760 GHz, but it's a little flaky, so I cut it down to 3.6GHz. Sandra reads the bios settings for the CPU host speed, while CPUz reads the actual speed. I upped the CPU speed 200 MHz with AMD Overdrive, and as you can see that it's running just over 3.6 GHz. For whatever reason, it is a little better than the 940, by the numbers. I dropped the HT link speed multiplier down to 8, and the memory is underclocked a bit, but the 9x multiplier isn't stable. Seems to work quite well. I haven't messed with the ACC yet, but I'm going to leave it here anyway, as I don't want to get too close to the edge! LOL!! I'm happy. My memory bandwidth is about 800 less than yours. Still, it runs right good. I ran Orthos on it for a couple of hours and had no problems. I'll live with it like this for a few days and if all remains good, I'll install 64 bit XP-Pro on it.
Best Regards,
Russ

Will and Oman7,
Well, sometimes you just have to slow down to speed up! LOL!! I did some more adjusting and fiddling around with the settings. I'm still puzzled as to why the memory will not run on the 400MHz multiplier, which would make the memory run at 1040MHz at this speed, but I'm not unhappy with the results.
As far as the voltage goes, Russell called a Railroad Engineer friend of his who has serious money invested in AMD, and he in turn called a Design Engineer he knows in AMD's R&D. He called me late this evening and I inquired about the voltage. He says that they are good up to 1.50v, but there's a condition to that. It depends on how good the cooling is, and questioned me at length as to the temperatures I was getting under load conditions. He says that I should have no problems at my current 1.440v, so I'll take his word for it. Suffice to say it runs very cool. Here are the results of my latest tweaks!
Processor Arithmetic
Not to bad for a $122 CPU. Best so far! Gonna have to pick it up a bit guys! LOL!! :) Nothing like a little friendly competition to get things working better, and at a lower clock speed than you Will and at a little higher clock speed than Oman7. This baby really screams at encoding with DVDRB/CCE
Memory BW
I have to choose the 3.33 multiplier, otherwise it hangs up on boot-up. I don't quite know why, but given the way it runs, I'm not too fussed about it. My feeling is that the 260MHz CPU Host Frequency has something to do with it. I also dropped the CPU multiplier to 13.5 because it wasn't quite stable. I've run Occt on it for about 4 hours, and I'm going to run it overnight, if I ever get to bed! LOL!!
Thanks for the help guys,
Russ :)

erkrow22,
I think sammorris could answer the question on the PSU better than I can. The XFX is like the Cadillac when it comes to quality Video Cards, in my opinion. I've used them for years, and I've never had a bad one, or had one quit on me. Very nice people to deal with if you do run into a problem. I had a driver issue once and they not only emailed me the correct drivers, they sent me a timed copy of Driver Magician to remove the old drivers with. They even gave me 3 days before it expired.
Your choices look to me to be very good, and you will have a really nice fast machine. Good luck with the build. Just keep in mind that building a computer is mostly assembly. Install the CPU and the cooler before you mount the motherboard in the case. I even go one step further and connect the wires to the front pane header before I install the board in the case. It's much easier to do it that way. It's not difficult. Just take your time and check everything carefully before you fire it up. Good luck with your first build.
Best Regards,
Russ

Here's The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince caspian done with DVDRB/CCE, 2 pass. Note the speed! From the high 12s to the mid 13s. Outstanding! It's also 7 minutes faster than it was when it was running at 3.6GHz! 1 minute Prepare, 22 minute Encode and 7 minutes to rebuild, for a total of 30 minutes!
I'm one happy camper, and I'm going to leave it right where it is!
Best Regards,
Russ
P.S. It never exceeded 41C during the entire encode. That's another surprising thing!
