great! thanks for the link. i dont want to have to swap discs.. i hated that about my dreamcast (though i know theres a fix now). that link is for the ps2 i have the slim pstwo. what i'd love to do is have a huge ass external hdd with the ps2 games on them, and hook it up to my pstwo's usb port. is this a possibility? do i need a modchip for this? or can i just leave some software in the disc drive and run the games that way? are all games able to run via usb hdd? thankyou.

thanks for you help glitched. for any of the games that are not compatible with hd advance, can i use a swap method for those ones? is there incompatibility issues with the swapping method as well? also i noticed that there is a couple different usb hdd softwares availiable for pstwo's, specifically USB extreme, any advantage with one over the other?

Well,
I actually ordered from www.modchipman.com.
However I did notice it was a 1.68 version chip. But no green dot on the picture of the chip.
Anyone ordered from them before ? I contacted them and also on my order. I stated wanting latest chip, green dot.
Can they do this ?
update a chip for a v14 , for example its a older chip and they update it and sell it.
The more I am learning, the more questions.
You say the lazer is good on the v14, so i should have no problems or is it likely i need something further than just the chip ?
Now if the chip comes and it's not green dot, do I install it or send back ? even if the firm ware version is 1.68

I had been ordering from modchipman for quite awhile. I was always happy. Until a few months back I noticed that the payment page wasn't secure (don't know about now). And I had received a bad dms4 and wanted it exchanged. I NEVER got any replys to my emails. My last 2 orders have been from mod-chip.com. Shipping takes a few days longer, but good prices and excellent customer support.
Hope this helps some.

glitched,
Have you modded a v14 ?
or know some that have ?
I saw on one web site, selling a sp2 slim v14 with cyrstal chip and the slim mod, for the laser.
I wondered if the v14 laser had no issues with a mod chip, why that mod was done.
any thoughts on this ?
i dont want to install the infinity chip and then wreck my laser, if i in deed do need the slim mod for the laser.
I knwo this was a issue with the v12. But am conmfused why that was done for the v14.

sporty98, hey I haven't seen a v12 out locally. Can you tell me the SCPH-##### underneath your system? Mine is SCPH-70012 which makes it a v12.
The v14 is supported by most modchips, including Matrix Infinity, Crystal Chips & DMS4. Most any installer with a good rep can properly solder in your chip, and give you the capability to run ALL backups (PS2/PS1/PAL/NTSC/Japan) as well as originals (PAL/NTSC/Japan) and even imported Region free DVD movies. And hook up a HDD like the fat PlayStation2 w/network adapter. Many possibilities w/a good modchip. I suggest you read Tokijin's FAQ (see my signature line) and familiarize yourself with them a bit more.
Bought my v12 and then SwapMagic v3.6 & BreakerPro. Then came an extended warranty, so I don't want to lose it by opening the case. It runs what I want for now; I can always upgrade once the PS Two drops in price and still run all the same games. The v12 has a laser problem; the extended warranty will guarantee a full replacement @no cost.
Who else things it will be difficult for $ony to justify a June/July release date for the PS3 and a price of around $350-$400? They will defintely drop the price on PSTwo right before they release their new system, don't you think? And you can bet that through every new version until the PS Two dies, the top modchips will still keep up with every $ony update.

I have the 75001 model (v14)
I just spoke with a gentleman from www.modchipman.com. I called them.
I wanted to make sure my order was good and so forth.
He said my chip will come with the 1.68 version, but I will want to update to the latest firmware version. Which I think is 1.75 or something like that.
It is likely I would guess that just before the ps3 comes out they will drop the prices.
I also worry that the ps2, might have lower quality as they may be less concerned with it. as to focus a bigger priority on the ps3.
Long term, that this will not hurt the games, as MFg's might go to making ps3 games that will not play on older models.
But I know very little on that area.
Our local video rental stores, they dont even carry any ps1 games anymore. Just ps2.

I actually prefer HDloader to a modchip, but thats me. Its easy to install, plug and play to be exact... well aslong as you get a compatible hard drive, and your games load much faster. Don't get me wrong, some modchips are great but hdloader is definatly something worth looking at.

hi there, i was thinking of getting the USB extreme with a HDD for my slim ps2 (v.14) and i read that not all games are compatible with this software. sooooo i was thinking id get a swap disc application for the games that dont work. that way all games should be compatible, and i wont have to worry about spending big bucks on a chip. would this work? or is there games that you can only play via modchip?

i got my mod chip. Geez I got it about 1/2 installed.
And the solder would not hold. So I gave up.
Not worth the aggrevation or risk of wrecking the board.
So I pissed away $50 dollars for nothing. Im certainly noy gonna spend another $60 and shipping to send it off to be done.
Those frail little wires, broke easy and really could not move them much either.
I got 1/2 done and got to 4 wires that would not stay in the tiny whole. Just not enough material to solder to.
Then without to instruction sent to me, only a diagram to use. Where and the heck i was gonna place the chip was another question.
None of the diagrams I got from the mfg site, showed or provided this info.
The wire kit, came with a huge piece of solder, They should have sent the much thinner kind.
I wonder why, cuz im sure they dont use that thick piece of solder.
And yes I used a awesome solder iron. Great flux, and one awesome lighted magnafiying glass.
Just those 4 little tiny wholes got me.
image 1, b, g,I and h were the ones.
W was a real pain also.

Hi Glitch
I got a second hand v4 ps2, and I am having trouble figuring out which mod chip is inside. The guy I bought it from said he can't remember.
Well here are basically some of the things I've noticed with this chip. If i hold the reset button for a long time when I first turn it on then it turns off the modchip. If I hold the reset button just until the clouds come up then I get the ps1 capability. When I play ps2 games it just shows the Playstation 2 symbol and there is nothing under it.
P.S. what are some of the commands I can do to see if I can autoboot from my memory card? I'm basically blinding trying to try every command that can allow this to happen.
Thanks a bunch Glitch.

sporty98, now you learned WHY the expert modders charge all that dough. Yes, they are that good....to handle little tiny wires & solder everything perfectly. Every once in awhile, even an expert can botch a job. Lucky for us, the best modders have a reputation to maintain. So they will pay for a new board if they screw it up. Which they do very, very rarely. So you're sitting on a chip....why NOT pay someone to install it. Just do it, you'll be happy afterward.

Hi guys, newbie here. You guys certainly know your stuff, very clever. Hopefully you will be able to help me?
I just bought and installed a DMS4 EZI Lite on a PS2 V10 (SPCH 50003). When i put the whole thing back together, the reset/power light on the reset button (Red in my case) was illuminated but it would not reset and the eject button wouldnt work either. I guessed that i might not have installed the eject part properly, or not pushed the ribbon cable in enough so i took it apart again.
I checked everything was in tight and put it back together but now im not getting any power at all!! ooop's
I tried the fuse in the power lead and its fine. Ive also checked and re-checked that the chip is installed correctly and that looks fine to me, but no power?
The fuse on my power supply board is white so i cant check that and i havnt got chance to get a multimeter just yet to check.
Has anybody experienced this problem before? or can anybody give me any guidance?
Much apprieciated, thanks in advance

I have a Ripper 2 gold chip and I wonder if I can play backups online with this chip. How do I do it if it is possible?
The problem as I se should be that I have to turn of the chip (stealth mode) before I start a backupgame...then I cant play a backupgame...right?

FrgttnHro from what ive heard it depends on the model. I dont know a list of ones that work with which models, but I have a Matrix Infinty chip in my v4 and it works fine with TDK DVD+R movies and game backups. Good luck.
