And it never will. I suspected that your original problem was largely environmental. Especially when it comes to using non retail versions of CCE Basic.
I think that it's great that you got it working. Didn't you say that it was a test to determine if it was worthy of being purchased?

ZeroSktr,
From the beginning of this thread if you read it you know the following;
no.1)most problems occurred when using trial versions of CCE
no.2)if you use trial versions you are going to have the watermark
no.3)everyone who uses the trial version ends up buying the retail version
no.4)RB/CCE has yet to disappoint anyone who has used it.
no.5)they came to the same conclusion you did
Sound familiar? ;>)

You did say you were checking it for quality, and I think you did that. Now you'll have to decide if it's worth the investment for you. Whatever you decide you can at least be proud of your success.

Well I'm still having problems with my BBC disks. I have 3 sets of mid 70's BBC TV series released as DVD's. They are all 4:3 aspect ratio. 1 set (I Claudius) comes through RB/CCE Basic 2.69 perfectly. The other 2 (The Goodies & Blakes 7) result in sound drop-outs on all disks. I have tried older versions of DVD-RB right through to v0.65 with the same results. So I was forced to resort to Shrink 3.2. Any thoughts?

Keep them yes but remove the watermark, probably not, but then anything is possible across time.

Is using the pause button during encoding then coming back later and resuming at last successful encode bad?

Can anyone make sense of this?
I've been using CCE, Rebuilder, Remake, etc for a few months now with no problems. After trying to convert AVI to SVCD using guides at www.videohelp.com, I came back to my usual DVD routine the end result turns out:
1. Not sized properly (it is almost exactly the same as original). The rebuilder.ini does not specifically set a disk size but I am under the impression that there is a default size without that specific setting.
2. Has vertical banding type effect. The bands are about an inch wide, clear (see through) and gives the screen a slight ribbed type appearance. It looks to me like something has been offset or shifted perhaps, almost as if every other bar has been shifted lower/higher than previous bar.
I believe at some point while trying to convert AVI to SVCD I changed some settings in CCE. I have a solution that doesn't require CCE so I'd just like to have it set up to do my DVD's again.
Solutions I've tried so far:
(using CCE-SP version 2.67.00.27)
-upgraded to latest rebuilder version, double checked all settings same as guide here
-reinstalled CCE; settings appear to be "ok" but I am not too familiar with the inner workings of CCE
-tried movies previously backed up successfully and problem repeats
Is there a setting in CCE that is not cleared via reinstall? I doubt rebuilder is the culprit because I did not change any settings or even touch the program between the last successfull use and the first bad encode after my SVCD attempts.
Hard to explain how it looks ... hope this makes sense.

Without knowing what the steps were in the guide you used it's hard to be very helpful, but I can say that CCE settings from other programs won't make any difference to DVD-RB because that's controlled by the ECL files it creates. If your AVI to SVCD conversions involved AviSynth (and if they involved CCE they just about had to) that program is the first place I'd look. Try opening an AVS file with a media player and see what it looks like. If it looks fine, the problem is somewhere else, but I'd say Windows is much more likely to be the culprit than CCE.

What version of DVD-RB are you using? Look at the window header when it is running (sometimes we aren't running the version we last downloaded). The upgrade to CCE may be the source of the problem. When that version came out some of the .ECL parameters changed and it's possible you are outputing CBR rather than VBR. One of the more recent versions of DVD-RB implemented a fix for that... download v0.64a if you haven't already.

I would do as jdobbs recommends, I seem to recall that there was a sizing problem with that particular updated version of CCE SP and RB .57. This of course led to RB versions .58-64a.

I am using v0.64a and I believe the problem originated with the version I was using before, hence prompting me to upgrade. If I can remember I think I was using 0.57
@vurbal
Once I got into the AVI to SVCD possibilities I realized Mainconcept was good for what I needed. I was fooling with AVI2DVD for a while ... I believe that's the only one if memory serves.
Any other ideas? What about the sizing issue? Weird that it would make it look worse and keep it the same size.
Thanks...

I may take less time to start over than to figure out the wrong turn made recently.
Try uninstalling everthing then reinstall. Last resort is a Windows reload.

Does anyone have any guidelines for tweaking the VBR-Bias and Qual_Prec settings in DVD-RB? I can't find anywhere on the forum where this is discussed.
Does the type and length of movie affect these settings?

When it comes to reinstalling CCE, last time I tried that I uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs but left the other files in the CCE directory (i.e. eclcce.*) that the windows uninstaller left there.
I searched the registry and removed any references I could find but there didn't look to be anything of interest.
Is there anything I missed? Am I destined to reformat?? I actually just finished doing that and really don't want to again. Thanks...

Here's a copy and paste from a guide, I'm no expert myself just happened to have the info handy:
VBR_Bias controls how CCE distributes the bitrate. During the first CCE pass, the bitrate is distributed to achieve constant quality. The bias determines how much weight is given towards keeping that allocation. High values prevent high bitrate fluctuations in between GOPs, and low values give CCE more freedom to use bits in highly demanding areas
Quality_prec corresponds to Image Quality Priority in CCE 2.50, and Quantizer characteristics in CCE 2.66/2.67. The value ranges from 0 - 64 (as in CCE 2.66+), but is scaled to 0-100 when using CCE 2.50 (so if you're a CCE 2.50 user and have set this parameter to X, you have to enter X*64/100 in DVD-RB). This setting determines if CCE gives priority to image details, or evenly colored areas. The lower the value, the more priority will be given to details, which could result in blockyness or banding in other areas. A high value will result in good looking evenly colored areas, but could result in edge artifacts.
Hope this helps.

Hi everyone, I have a question about CCE, when i use CCE Basic and RB I noticed that everytime CCE starts on a new .avs file it resets the "Priority" in Windows Task Manager from "High" to "Normal". I have 2 questions,
One, does CCE perform its job faster if i put the "Priority" to "High"?
If so, how do I set CCE Basic so that its priority stays on "High" for the whole encoding process?
Thanks,
Pop Smith
