What is the difference between the Asus P5W-DH and the Asus Commando? I couldn't find anything except that the Commando's PCIe slots are labled electrical x16 and x4, and I don't understand what it means. Can someone explain to me what and electrical x16 and x4 slot is vs a normal x16 PCIe slot?
Can someone tell me which ATI1950XTX is better: the Asus, MSI or GECUBE?
Thanks.

@BigDK
thanks for the heads up, though I was aware of it which is why I ended up getting a board that had backward compatibility with DDR but had 2 DIMM slots for DDR2, though limited to PC4200 only. Many boards that feature the VIA P4M890 chipset has this capability. Here is my board the ABIT IP-95
Here is an picture of it:
Not the fastest board since it doesn't have SATA2 or dual channel memory support, but it allowed me to save my old DDR memory from going to waste.

No Problem.
Better to be safe than sorry.
@eparker89
I'm amazed you couldn't find any differences between the boards, other than the PCI-E.
There are loads of major differences between the boards.
P5WDH Spec:
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l...198&modelmenu=2
Commando Spec:
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l...480&modelmenu=2
If you look through these you'll see all the differences on items such as chipsets, usb, firewire, SATA & e-SATA ports, audio, wifi, LCD Poster, Capless power, IDE support.
PCI-E 16 or 4 is the speed of the transfer of data to and from the video cards.

@BigDK
I guess I should've been more clear. What I was getting at was that one has two PCIe x16 slots (P5W-DH) and the other had two electrical x16 and x4 PCIe slots (Commando) and I wasn't sure of the difference in the boards that caused them to be labled differently.

I'm looking for a new monitor to go with my new system. I will be doing a lot of gaming and video playback so should I place emphasis on a lower response time or higher resolution? Any suggestion on good monitors are apprecieated.
Thanks.

doomgaurd and rick5446,
any particular reason why you have opted for AMD? a stock intel C2D E6600 even stock at 2.4ghz will outperform the AMD 6000+ 3.0ghz cpu not to mention they will easily OC to 3.0ghz. I think the E6600's are even a few dollars less than the 6000+ now.
It's your choice of course, I'm just trying to help you get the best bang for the buck.

Mort81..I looked at that but I think the 3.0 was a little cheaper at the time at NewEgg..Also went to a few sites where they compare AMD,INTEL..Ya know the sites I'm talkin about.They got the charts that show U which performs better RED,GREEN,YELLOW,long is better short is better,Ya gotta read ea chart to know.Well anyway being a Noob,it looked like the 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz.Was better for video & that is mostly what I do.Intel seems to fall short unless U get the newest 3.0 something around 800bucks
So anyway thats my story..Just a little worried about my memory,I bought the CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 5-5-5-12, & didn't realize it till it was to late meant to get the 4-4-4-12

rick5446,
clock per clock the C2D's will tear up any of the AMD dual core offering at present time. even the new E6600 should fairly easily OC to 3.0ghz with quality components. I don't know that they will OC as high as mine but basically what I am saying is an E6600 at 3.0ghz will walk all over an AMD 6000+.
I don't know how OC friendly the 6000+ is. I'm guessing around 3.3 - 3.4ghz and the E6600 at even 3.0ghz will outperform it. no need worrying over spilt milk. the 6000+ will make you a good cpu. the E6600 would have made you a better one though for about the same price.
don't fret too much about your memory. cas4 would have been better but you still got some good stuff.

One more question i have read at newegg that different motherboards support different rams voltage others support 1.8V , 1.9V and so on.... but it doesn't say which even at the detailed specs. Is there a way to now?
Forgive me for double posting....

Does anyone have any insight on SiverStone PSU?
http://www.xoxide.com/silverstone-strider-sst-st1000.html
need to get ready for my new fans, see sig for case- ripping them all out and getting some monsters from Delta fan co- anyways...wanting to put two 7900s or two 7950 Vid cards in later and want plenty of power... going to trick out the case also...thought at least a 1000 W PSU would last a couple of builds.

@herrick,
What are you gonna do with this MONSTER?? lol. I think that you have made a great choice and should be happy with it for many builds to come. :) It's modular and a quality company if I remember right. Hopefully someone like Lp531 or Mort81 will kick in here, hopefully they won't slap me or anything. Heck docTY might even stop by for a sec to say something. I think he was the one telling me about the SilverStone company. ;-)
Good luck with whatever you choose. :)
...gm
edit: to add for herrick
7950GT page at newegg.com I've had good luck with the BFG and it's on sale right now :)
You might look at these 8600 series as well, I did a comparison page and the EVGA looks pretty good to me. :)
HTH my friend........

herrick,
if you plan on running a couple cards SLI or crossfire you're definately gonna want more PSU than your hiper. not that I'm badmouthing the hiper type r, I have one too but even though it has served me well for my rig (single GPU) I don't recommend it for SLI or crossfire. I'm not a PSU guru but the one you linked to looks to be a good one. 80% efficiency rating, 1000 watts, and modular. if the doc recommends silverstone that's good enough for me.

Been a long week for me and I may be overlooking something here but there doesn't seem to be a logical explanation for the reason why my new hsf isn't transmitting a signal to the mobo on fan speed. I'm pretty sure there is only one way to plug it in and the 3 wire plug should be read for "speed" right? I also haven't properly tested the new cpu because I want to make sure this isn't a serious problem. I've checked to make sure it's spinning and the fan is turning like a champ. The puter recognizes the 3800 X2 cpu but is there something else that I may be overlooking or do I have to click, check, or ensure some other process is started? Sorry for the semi-general post but I'm wanting to cover a few bases here so I can get the most of my new cpu and hsf. :)
TIA for your help. ;)
