Wiikey update: ETA 1 week!
We have received positive news from the developers. The long-awaited upgrade to wiikey is basically finished, and is now being tested on different systems to ensure that is is working smoothly. We expect that it will be available to the public around May 15.
We would also like to point out that making the upgrade incompatible with clones have not caused any delays in the process.
Taken from the wiikey official website. That last line is confusing though. Didn't they say that they won't be making the chip incompatible with clones?

i'm guessing its either because they are in a different time zone....or its highly likely that it may not be outu for a couple of days because its was still only an ETA =P

Why don't they do a beta release? We've been waiting. If it's in testing, let us test it too. I could easily try a game that doesn't work yet. Just state that it's beta and let people chance it if they want to.

thats not very good idea....because its a beta there could be serious side effects on the wii, it could even brick it if it wasn't right, i'd rather wait for it to be finished then a chance of screwing up my wii

Then you would be one of the people to pass on the beta test.
I would rush into it and hope for the best. But that's just me.

I ment that it was near compleation and was semi-stable that I would do it.
I'm sure that they don't have some abundance of bricked wii laying around in a pile and each time they have to test code that causes a bricked wii say "Well, I guess THAT didn't work" and toss it in the heap.

Sure I will understand if they were candy sellers... They are supposed to be professional and a professionnal respect customers. 16th May and no words explaining why they delay the release...

look at the website.....it doesn't even say its a offical release date...its an ETA, whcih equals, ESTIMATED time of arrival, seriously, i'd rather they get good feedback from the testers than just release it on an estimated day with bugs =/

What it says is AROUND the 15th. Guess what, the 20th is still AROUND the 15th of May. Go sue Microsoft forgiving estimated download times that are often off by minutes and/or seconds.

i too keep checkin the site, but nothing yet.
a few questions for the wise:
1. are modchips illegal to install in the UK? (i'm in the UK)
2. is this 15th of may update just a disc update or a whole new chip?
3. i was told that on my PAL wii (because i'm in the UK), if it wasnt up to date and i put in a NTSC game which has a update on, that this could "brick" my wii (which means it'll stop working ...permanently).
- is this true?
- can it happen vice versa?
- has it happend to anyone before?
- and is there a way to prevent it from happening?
thanks

I'm agree with you. But they just have big lack of communication. We even don't know what new features this update will bring to us...

Most of those questions have been answered many times over here on the forums, just search a little and you will find the answers. But anyhow, its just a disc update.
