Thanks guys, i'll go thru the links. Sod's law, when i posted last about how the PC was behaving it rebooted itself after a few episodes of watching Dexter (over the network, not that it matters). I'll test the RAM again, maybe this time it's stopped crying wolf and a stick has failed. Maybe not, can't be doing with messing with the machine to be honest, PC is a tool to sit there (once built) and never moan or fail (unless it needs an urgent clean that is), when one starts to fail i start to get irritated and just leave it off and use other machines. Only trouble is that all my movies are on it. Should really get around to buying another Q6600 CPU (and maybe a PSU as i think the spare that i have is iffy) then i could finally see if my MSI P35 Platinum board works (i had it RMA'd but never tried it), could put it in my trusty Supermicro SC-750A monster case and basically move all my movie hard drives into there while i figure out what's wrong with the main PC.
What i've done for now is swap in my spare set of RAM and touch wood, machine is behaving (for now, 4 bours so far). I'll leave the machine on overnight and if it stays up i'll start testing the other RAM sticks.

Either way i'll let you guys get back to the other topics, i'll look thru the compressor links a bit later, cheers.

edit- ARGH, this has happened three times now. It's posting my post 3 times, then when i delete any one of the three, all three vanish and i'm taken to the start of the thread. I've posted in the bug thread here ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/316808/5243735

Russ has one similar, I've got one ...But yes these are Construction type Compressors
My Computer Tech has a 40CFM IN HIS SHOP

I keep my Compressor at 90 lbs, stays constant, and delivers enough air to clear away all matter
Well then, I stand corrected :p

Maximum Pressure : 150 psi
That's probably the max it can give something. Let's say a tank can handle 200Psi. That compressor wouldn't be able to fill it up, because the back pressure would be too much. I'm merely thinking this logically though. I could be mistaken?

Those type are usually what you store in a trunk to get you off the side of the road ;) I've had one that couldn't fill a flat tire while weight was on it. If you jacked it up, then pumped, it was good.
Oman7,
It doesn't work that way. There's a check valve between the compressor and the tank, so there is no back pressure issue. Usually the pressure release valve will pop off, long before the tank is filled to the max pressure, but the compressor will continue to build pressure, and can even blow the tank without a safety relief valve. It will reach a point where it will no longer build anymore air pressure in the tank, but that's way higher pressure than you would ever get to under normal use. Most tanks today, have a fiberglass lining in them to prevent rust. I was standing right next to an older Dental Compressor, when it blew the entire bottom out of the 6 gallon tank, because of rust. The Doctor and I, who were talking in the utility room came out of there looking like a pair of bronze statues from all the rust dust! we were covered from head to foot with rust! LOL!! The pressure switch and the relief valve on the compressor both stuck from rust and the pressure got up to 175 lbs, just before it blew. I saw the air pressure guage at 175, and was just reaching for the switch when the tank let go. it blew about a 2.5' hole in the bottom of the tank (it was old). Thankfully, no one got hurt.

Don't underestimate how much power there is in relatively low pressure. I once noticed a developing crack in the door hinge of an Autoclave. I was just barely able to flatten the girl standing in front of it to the floor, when the door blew off. 30 PSI was enough to throw the 17 lb. door clean across the room and bury it about half way through the lab door. She would have been seriously hurt, or maybe even killed if it had hit her, not to mention all the instruments that flew out of it as well. I also saw one blow out the bottom of the chamber, and it jumped about a foot in the air when it did. It takes a lot to move 57+lbs. like that. Again, only 30 lbs of pressure!

Oh! More than likely it wasn't the weight of the car that prevented the tire from filling. When a tire is flat and sitting on the ground, it usually pulls the bead of the tire slightly away from the rim at the bottom enough, that it won't fill. Jacking up the car allows the bead to seal enough to fill! Higher air pressure and airflow will usually overcome that too!

Got back from the LAN and didn't have any major problems, however this morning I noticed the speed of the fans on channel 2 of my controller kept going down and then back up in a rhythmic cycle. Curious, I decided to take the side panel off and inspect the fans, which is when I noticed the second fan on that channel wasn't spinning, even at 12V. There's no impedance to movement, but whatever's happened electronically, the fan is moving backwards and forwards rather than in only the correct direction, basically shorting the channel on the controller. Removing this fan from the channel stopped the variations in speed (and voltage) of the other fan. I wonder if this shorting is what fried the other Rheobus. It certainly seems plausible.
No amount of blowing, tapping or bashing the fan (though it did produce some interesting noises) corrected the problem, so I'll need to buy a new Slipstream :P

jumped my case back to my Lian-Li PC-A70B.

CPU temps drops about 20C idle (from about 50 to 30) and GPU from 55 to 46.

mind you the CPU was OCed to 3.2 before, now at 3.42. But i am using a push pull configuration, with the H50, being a gentle typhoon > H50> corsair stock fan.

Well...My velociraptor has me rather unimpressed lately. It's been slowing down. It doesn't multitask as well as I'd like. Suppose the size of the cache could have something to do with it ;)

I also came close to maxing out my 4Gb of ram earlier. And I don't like closing photoshop, because I lose history states when I do that. My next system is gonna REQUIRE 8Gb or more :D

I thought you sold it?
And yeah that's the case he had. The A70Bs are vast cases, I'm pretty sure they're noticeably larger than the HAF932.

Yeah I'm going to be going for an upgrade to 8GB of RAM relatively soon, certainly by the time I upgrade my graphics. As for the velociraptor, they are still mechanical drives. Defragged lately? How full is it?

not mates, tbh they arnt at city either, but i just couldnt stand york.

id take big city over a village any day :p

nop i gave it to my brother.

i think i shall be keeping it, even though the FT02 is MIGHTY tempting.

but 6 series upgrade and P6X58D-E i7 950 unt ram n SSD (160GB G3 intel) will be coming first, as soon as all are available in steady stock.

i realise sandy bridge is around the corner, but lack of OCing, minimal gains in performance (games really), according to anadtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3871/the-s...wins-in-a-row/1
"Clock for clock however, Sandy Bridge seems to offer a 10% increase in performance" this is compared to lynnfield.

and i really cant wait a year for BD. to come out. hell its the server parts being released first, no? as i cant see anything that doesnt state sever.

I agree about Sandy Bridge to be honest. I think the way to go is going to be LGA1156/1366 until Bulldozer comes out, assuming it's as good as we're hoping it will be. I'm surprised you're buying an X58 board though, what use do you have for i7s over i5s?

anyone else find that after a while FF crawls to a stop? white screens and then starts again at a snails pace?

for the extra RAM, instead of getting 8GB, plus itll stop me from jumping to X68/bulldozer asap, as im sure the extra power should last me. though, if funds arnt enough, i will go the P55 route. i just rather not populate all my ram slots.

Not used ff since the travesty that was 3.5.
You say extra power, there is no extra power, certainly not for gaming, and not really for anything else. Unless you routinely use the sort of apps that can make use of how the i7 differs from the i5 (few outside professional stuff), using an i7 is wasted TDP and wasted money. Clock for clock, an i7 needs to be 4.1Ghz to take a 4Ghz i5 in games, and the i5s are if anything easier to overclock than i7s, partly due to the considerably reduced TDP.
Buying 8GB of RAM is not especially expensive any more, and being limited to 8x for dual graphics (if you even use it) is no issue.
If you're desperate not to brim your RAM Slots, buy 2x4GB modules. Doing that is actually going to be pretty similar in price to buying an i7.
i7 930, X58A-UD3R, 6GB PC3 1600mhz C9: £469 from Scan, £480 from CCL
i5 760, P55A-UD3, 4GB PC3 1600mhz C9: £344 from Scan, £338 from CCL
i5 760, P55A-UD3, 8GB (4GBx2) 1333mhz C9: £392 from Scan
i5 760, P55A-UD3, 8GB (4GBx2) 1600mhz C9: £514 from Scan, £527 from CCL

Listed both Scan and CCL as Scan have severe stock issues with i5/i7 systems at present.

I think I already said this but I'm waiting until SB launches to see if they're worth it. From what I heard OCing SB is going to be different than what we're used to, not non-existent; no guarantees but that's what I'm hoping for.

i5 it may very well be then :) well imma check out benches for the 6 series first and see if they take much if any a hit on dual 8x mode. are there benches for dual GTX460s on 8x/8x?

i7s are slower for gaming? (with HT turned off?)

how are the sata 6GBs controllers on x58/p55, (no difference i assume as they are third party, but just wondering if either SB hinders the external controller?)

though i probably will get the hotpoint rocket sata 6GB/s for the next gen intel (IF they are sata 3, if they are still sata 2 then no need.

cheers fred, was an old setup, with a 3MP camera, plus i never claimed to even be half decent at taking photos :p i suck i know :(
