One extra thing i can say is if u check in Netlimiter the amount of connections u have made with Bit Torrent you would be surprised of the number of ip addresses you are connected to! That might kill your connection. On another note I have never downloaded more than 2 things on bit torrent at the same time! You are basically not supposed to! :-)

@ dela, i haven't heard or read anywhere that you're not supposed to dl more than 2 things at a time.. (?)
all i can think is that in practice, i guess it isn't that smart to dl on that many diff connections at once, because as we all know, BT puts quite a lot of strain on a hard disk even when downloading just an one torrent. but then again, that's we love the BT so much =) and hey, HDD's are cheap.

I have been using one of the experimental BT clients and so far I dont have many complaints about it. I tend to leave the file open for 48 hours after completion of download to help others get the file(s) (Aint that the whole Ideas?). The major problem I am finding is that I can use the advanced mode to see how many people are downloading to me and uploading from me, which can be very interesting. I can also see other people peer downloads and I have to admit that sometimes I get seriously angry at it.
I have a cable 1meg connection no upload or download restrictions per month like some people have. But to see my own average download rate not hit over 30kb, when there's like 15 seeders on and other who are getting it at over 100kb, while somehow seriously restricting thier upload rate to 1 or 2kb.
Then again I havn't found anything better so I'd better shut up and put up with it :)
Based on the current file I am downloading:
file size 928.20MiB
Upload rate 124kb/sec
Download rate 3kb/sec (oh eck)
With 93.1% already downloaded and a massive 2.3gig uploaded, I kinda think I am getting the short end of the deal.
Stupidity has a certain charm, ignorence doesn't.

How do you set up pot fowarding for ports 6881 - 6889? Is there any other tricks for speeding up torrents as I am on a 512kb DSL with Pipex and never get speeds above 6kb/s?

all of you cry babies out there need to listen up dont use the official bittorrent release 3.3 it blows you aint never gonna get crap done with that version i have been using shadow experimentalrelease 5.8.7 and it works great i find if i set my speed on it to dialup i get the greatest speed, also it matters on how new the torrent is thats why you gotta keep up and get them as they are released so far highest i hit was 81k sec but that was downloading porn so thats why haha anyway xbox games and pc games i usually get aroun 40 or 50k on them and i owe it all to not using the official release i figure any experimental version that gives you more info than the 3.3 version works better
dont pay for entertainment, thats for lamers
10 character limit on your name now thats lame!

Hey there. I've recently started using bittorrent, so don't extract the urineif I'm being a newbie. I notice alot of you have speeds which are far higher that mine. My rate of download peaks at around 22KiB on a 512k connection running a popular download with quite alot of seeds. I ususally only run one download at a time, but I'm wondering why mine runs so slow?

I didn't read the entire 6 pages, but I noticed that most the people having problems with slow download rates are using the official bittorrent client. Someone else mentioned that they use a experimental bittorrent client and with that it is much faster, and I would say that is true since I also use a experimental client.
I use the ABC bitorrent client and I download anywhere from 1-5 different things at the same time and I get 150kb/s for my total speed. Now the great thing about this specific client is that you can change your upload rates at will. I have my upload rate at a 3kb/s maximum because anything higher than that gives me a slower download rate. So I would reccomend this client more than any other one out there, but I don't know the website for it but if I find it I will post it.
Also, I'm sure others have said this, but the download speeds are also dependant on how many seeders there are uploading the same file. If you were downloading a file from me and I was the only one uploading it as a seeder, than the fastest download rate you would get is 3 kb/s. So it all depends on the number of seeders and the best time to download files are right went they come out (or right when they are made available) since the chances of there being more seeders is much higher.

ok smart guys, the reason you might be getting slow downloads is because you fuckers are trying to take more than you give and change the upload speed,so files are beign uploaded slower.jsut turn off yrou client untill you go to bed then leave it on with full upload, files download faster when you provide a higher upload rate. and once again,i use shareaza with random bittorrent sites, with full upload and download and get up to 2 meg downloads.if everyones uploading at 3k,no shit yoru downloads are gonna be slow.

Faster uploading doesn't necessarily mean a faster download speed. When I used the official bitorrent client, I was uploading around 30kb/s and always downloaded at around 4kb/s no matter how many seeders there were. But by putting a max upload rate of 3 kb/s I can get 150kb/s download rate. I would rather share less and get a faster download than to share more and download at a 56k modem level. And by the way dumbass, don't call us fuckers you shithead. Don't ruin this thread. And maybe if you had any sense at all, when someone is downloading more than one file at a time, like myself, that means its 3 kb/s upload per file and when I download 5 or 6 files I get a total upload rate of about 19.5 kb/s and the most I can possibly upload is 25kb/s. And who the hell are you to get pissed of at someone who is uploading at a rate that gives them the best download rate. The reason I have a DSL is to have fast downloads, not 56k modem speeds for the likes of losers like yourself.

If you are running without a router (either software or hardware), you wont really need to worry about port forwarding but rather dealing with your firewall. :-)

Shut down iMesh, Shareza , Yahoo Messenger , MSN Messenger.. and either install the MS updates or tell it to remind you later and shut it down.. all that crap is using bandwidth! Esp iMesh and Shareza! your probably uploading in the background w/o even knowing it, thats could be why your speeds are slowing down..
