Yeah, I got an email from Microsoft about it the other day which cleared up a couple of the details - Yes, it'll be available to anyone, there will be absolutely no limit on downloads and keys given out and the RC will work until 30 June 2010. The interesting thing is it said it will be available from "5 May PST", so does that mean on the dot midnight? Shame I live in the UK, have to wait till 8am - stupid time zones ;)

All us guys who have the beta will have to do a full re-install, people on Vista can just upgrade and keep their data, so that might well help on uptake.

Does anyone known whether the RC will take Windows easy transfer files from the Beta? I'm kinda pinning my hopes on it working

Methinks I'm gonna try and get tomorrow off :-)

The beta was free to the public but key's are no longer available and MS discontinued the practice. Supposedly, RC 1 is being released to the general public on May 5 but I'll believe that when I see it, there is a link to the original post above.

or you can go to the other source and get a copy if you're impatient *hinthint*. at least RC doesn't freeze AIM6, unlike build 7048.

beta keys will fully activate RC.

and yes, i did remove the watermark.

It was true, lot's of link's, here's one, may be a tad busy though. Think I'll wait a few day's if it is: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx Edit: dialup would be faster and, unlike the beta, I see that info will automatically be sent to MS by the pc; that doesn't impress me.

Of course it was true xD Anyway, try the download again, I just got it in around 2 hours from the official site so they must be doing something right... Not bothered at all about the fact info is sent automatically (if what you say is true) - it's still technically a beta and the whole point is for MS to identify problems that remain.

From the link above, 2nd paragraph: "How do you test the software? You put it on your PC, and then do what you'd normally do. Your PC will automatically and anonymously send our engineers the information they need to verify the fixes and changes they made based on the Windows 7 Beta tests." The beta had a manual send feedback, the RC does it automatically, not a big deal, I just don't like any program that phones home.

I got Microsofts email, about the RC. Since I subscribed when I downloaded the Beta. I got it in about an hour and a half XD Cant wait to get it installed this coming weekend. I'd do it sooner, but ive already got tasks lined up for the week LOL! At least I haven't completed too many missions on GTA IV!

Zero effort, that's just a desktop gadget. You install it, click a couple of tickboxes and it's done. I like it as it's like 'conky', the same sort of thing that runs on Linux ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/156289/4061922

I think you're having too much fun finding widgets to clog up your desktop :)

Finally installed RC1 last night after backing up my data from both partitions (XP and the 7000 build), now just one partition with Windows 7 - am liking the new welcome screen.

Well...I hope that the RC has solved something I have been encountering in the beta. Windows XP would refresh thumbnails in real time after say re-authoring via favorite graphics program. Where windows 7, ive been having to exit the folder, and then reopen it. Im thinking their new indexing service, may be the culprit. But, I know absolutely sheet *LOL* when it comes to programming. Something im currently working on :D
Oh, and it also doesn't like "Previewing" HIGH resolution files either. And paint doesn't like opening them either. Even though its the program that scanned it! Most unusual. At least photoshop doesn't care, and will open them. LOL! I hope Microsoft reads/finds this.

EDIT - even more unusual, if one opens a .BMP file with MSpaint, makes even one change to it, saves it, it now becomes a 32bit .BMP file. When it was 24bit to begin with. Now, I dont know if its a problem with the 32bit windows 7, but this occurs every time with windows 7 64bit. MOST unusual LOL!

EDIT 2 - I suppose the Image preview could simply be due to an nvidia driver. That doesn't explain why Mspaint is converting to 32bit, without my say so!

On another note, "Bryce 6.1" appears to work with windows 7. So far, its looking like some VERY advanced visual authoring. IM IN LOVE LOL!

Windows 7 RC1's first bug ~ http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=1003

A-ha - that explains why i was having trouble deleting things yesterday. I got around it each time by just rebooting to XP (triple boot PC) and deleting folders from there. Sounds like a Vista-ism made it's way into the x86 version eh :p

From how I read it it sounds like only non-administrators would have problems? And I guess this is what the update my PC installed last night was addressing.

(And I'm done with having more than one O/S on a single computer, it annoys me :p)

No even the Administrator mode Windows Explorer and Dos prompts are affected. I personally don't ever use Windows Updates so i'll get continue to get around this by booting into XP to delete stuff. Better still i won't create folders in the root folder (i rarely do that anyway).

Hmmf. That does sound rather serious. I did a face palm for Bill creaky, LOL! At the same time though, im currently incapable of such complex calculations, so I won't knock Microsoft too bad for the first bug. :)
