I'll be running X64 before too long. Probably within a few hours. Ive been running the X64 beta throughout. Problems have been minimal, and mostly printer issues. Since epson hasn't catered a driver yet, OBVIOUSLY im not complaining LOL! I did find some work a rounds though. Doing some yard work right now :(
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

OK. Its up and running. Im now running Windows 7 RC X64 edition. So far, one dissapointment(same as beta 7000build)! When its first preparing to install, it just seems like its sitting there doing nothing. They really need to implement something, that says something like working...working...working. Otherwise some people might think its locked up. Not a big deal, in fact im probably being too critical LOL!

Here's my desktop right now; nice and plain and boring and oh god there's a whole two icons :P Desktop picture taken by myself :)
And how about a performance score shoot out? I'm sure there'll be higher scores than mine around here - omega's should be good (very good)
They've really done wonders with the quality of the jpeg compression in paint - it used to be terrible, now it's almost as good as png/bmp. Interesting thing i have noticed, however, is that the compression when using the snipping tool is still pretty poor which is a shame since i'm one of those people that hates to see artifacts, back to paint for me :)

Not as good as one might think LOL!
Sorry about the thumbnail. I haven't reinstalled photoshop, and it blows away paint at resizing.
Im sure this has been posted at least once before, but why not make it even easier for a googler :)
To erase the "Windows Experience Index" Type/paste the following in the search/run bar.
1. %SYSTEMROOT%\Performance\WinSat\DataStore
2. Now click on the datastore folder
3. Delete all XML documents
Vuala! Now refresh your Experience index :)
I felt that I needed to do this after OC'ing my CPU.

WOW. I forgot how easily/quick my printers install on XP! It took 10 times as long on Windows 7. Though drivers haven't been catered yet :D Apparently my printers/software mesh MUCH better with XP then windows 7 for the time being. Im sure that will change given time :) Printers have been finicky since the dawn of time LOL! Im lucky they work with the OS PERIOD! LOL!

My printer works even better with 7 than it did with XP :)
And wow... Only a 5.9 for the VelociRaptor? Mine's a plain old boring Samsung 7200rpm and that manages 5.8 :P

The first of June next year, though from (i think) March it will automatically shut down every 2 hours to try and force you to get a new operating system before it actually expires.

All of my drives hit 5.8 except the veloci. Im betting the FALS TB drive might hit 5.9 too. It trys pretty hard to keep up with the veloci.
What kinda transfer speeds does your Sammy drive perform? Ive seen the veloci hit, 114mb Read, 110mb write. Im betting HDD's are gonna do some leaps and bounds over the next few years, and Microsoft perhaps was aware of this. Im sure A Raid array would stomp on the score!

The gap is mainly because of solid state drives - no, i'm not fantasising over SSD RAIDs ;) (I think you'd like to see this if you haven't seen it already - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96dWOEa4Djs )
No idea about the Samsung's read/write, though i'll test it out if you really wanna know :P It's just the generic drive that came with the PC (it was a shop bought (my mum got it without my knowledge), i just swapped the GPU and PSU to turn it into a gaming PC). Next time i'll build my own.

I ran a slightly better system than that. It ran OK. I think ram was its problem.
HP pavilion 7905
1.4Ghz amd athlon
80gb HDD (WD)2mb Cache
EVGA GeForce 6200LE 128MB AGP
512mb Kingston 2.5 Cas Lat
XP and 1Gb of ram, ran like a dream. It accomplished hundreds of tasks for me :D Im gonna turn it into an HTPC (minus Blu-ray). I believe the board will support as much as a 2000-2200 XP processor.

Ive been using something called performance test. But there are all sorts of benchmarks out there. Perhaps Everest can do it. Though I'd like to find the utility with the tachometer, like the one in the video Shokz posted.

My Samsung gets 118.4MB/s Maximum in Linear read on Everest.
Everest write tests destroy all data on your drive for some unknown reason...
The software used in the video is IOmeter which is stupidly hard to set up and only lets you test non system drives.

I've been lurking around this thread for a while. Guess its my turn to chime in. First off, thanks a lot to omegaman, and the select few others that have kept this thread alive. All of your work and play is greatly appreciated.
Second, don't know if you have tried this yet, didn't see it in any posts though, but McAfee total protection doesn't work in windows 7. It will let the siteadvisor, and network protection work, but no virusscan or anything else.
Sucks(for me) because thats what I use and love. I don't know if there are any compatibility issues with any other Virus softwares, but I know this one won't work.
On to the good news, McAfee has a Beta tester program that is (of course) free to the public, and you can download and test the beta version of Total Protection 2009, which has support for Windows 7. Bad news is, the license expires at the end of the year.
Just thought I'd let everyone in on that in case they didn't know

Yes I did. I ran everything exactly like I had to in Vista(Dual boot with vista at the moment).
Wouldn't work to save my life, :-). But oh well, testing the beta now. Funny its EXACTLY like what I had, just it actually installed, lol.

But atleast its better than the same laptop in Vista.

Only non system/OS drive huh. That sucks!!! Probably so it doesnt erase critical data. Hmmff.
I saw no reason to continue the testing. Im betting given the steady decline in read speed, it bottoms out around 85-90mb Minimum Read speed, which is still phenomenal! I love this drive. Though, I would kill for a Samsung SSD now :D <----drooling
Sorry about it being XP by the way. I just happened to be booted into that OS.
