Spendy little bugger sam! This PSU is going in a 2001 gatway. Just to get her by for now. She lists stuff on ebay, and plays solitaire. Thats it! LOL! Besides, the rosewill is getting pretty good reviews. If it even lasts 6months, that should do...

Then get the 430W thermaltake. Seriously, Rosewill PSUs are downright dangerous.

the 430W thermaltake is in the Tower now. I dont wanna keep it there because its dangerously oversized. It could fall...
Thats why I need the proper dimensions. Its a tool-less design case. Because the Thermaltake is sooo long, the clip cant work properly. It needs to be 5 1/2 inches in depth/length(back of PSU)

The thermaltake is a small PSU, if it doesn't fit, modify the case so that it will.

I had a feeling you'd say that LOL! I've already begun thinking about how i'll drill the holes in the back, to accommodate the PSU bolts. :) I've never done any kind of serious modding like this. She said go ahead and do it. LATER that is. She's busy listing stuff now. Guess i'll simply break out a ruler and make sure its done perfectly.
What do you mean keith???

Do you not know what gaffer is? It's Duct tape. So the term 'bit of gaffer' refers to a pikey (I think the closest American thing would be redneck) repair job.

LOL! Thanks for the clarification. And I might actually do something like that for myself. But I couldn't do that to someone else's rig. I don't think it'll be too difficult to drill a couple holes. Depends on her case. Last time I looked at it in the back, it seemed unusual...

Ere in South Yorkshire at least, gaffer is simply the bloke in charge so a football manager would be a gaffer but then so would me (my) head of sixth-form, me boss, me mam (mum) and so on. This seems to have gone off topic very quickly.

You mean you'll buy a new PC when your PSU blows up, it's unlikely that it'll only be the PSU you'll need to replace.

Thankfully, thats never happened to me. I've seen a couple PSU's go in my PC ventures. The Stock PSU went in my Pavilion 7905(Fan quit), and the stock PSU from my MSI barebone went. Thankfully, they didn't take the Mainboards(or components) with it!

Sorry!
Anyways I've had/seen 3 pack-up mine (a different cheap one, I didn?t learn), my parents (my uncle ? an IT professional with his own company ? put a cheap one in) and a friend?s (he had a HP of some description). Also I may have told this story before but a mate bought a case (off Ebay I might add) with a US PSU never checked it and it wiped out everything completely.

Thats disgusting. PSU's should have the utmost consideration gone into them in the factory. PSU's are arguably the heart of a computer. Such a shame one has to worry, is what I mean. Im a perfectionist. I can't create Garbage! I realize nothing lasts forever, but geeze...

At least Sammy knew that and didn't "buy" in. LOL.
Oman7 be sure to get something "trustworthy" when buying a PSU. I know that a "cheapy" sounds like the answer but it's NOT.... You don't have to spends 100's on a decent PSU tho.... there are other brands that have a good rep.. just shop around and see what ye buddies have had luck with as well. :)

Most of us have destroyed whole PCs with bad PSUs, I destroyed half of mine with a Qtec once.

Ive been very lucky with that Sammy.... I had one go out at work and I decided to rebuild the system but I think it didn't take anything with it... I caught it before it "flamed" out... it was very hot but nothing else seemed wrong with it... NEVER know as I didn't mess with the "old" components. ;)

Nothing to do with age, it's just you don't buy terrible PSUs. 40%+ of the PSUs on the market today will easily destroy a PC if hooked up to one.

Im just gonna mod her case to support the Thermaltake. Its working wonderfully right now. She's happy, I KNOW that the PSU is good. So i'll just buy another Corsair for myself. Perhaps another 400W :D

Just as a warning, the Thermaltake 430W is a nice enough unit, but it is actually only a 250W unit inside. Don't go loading it up to the same extent as a CX 400W, it won't end well!

Oh, I'll believe that now(Corsair is generally better). Having seen one in action, and feeling its construction :D The thermaltake is way more than enough for my mother. Infact, it may migrate to her next system. I'll decide when that time comes.
