Hi guys, I need some serious help with my Bittornado. I have a D-Link WBR 1310 Router with 54 MBps and am currently using ports 10000-10010 all properly forwarded through the router and set up with a static ip address. My upload rate is at 80%, I am not using the automatic setting, with UPnP Port Forwarding disabled. Despite all of this, my upload speed is 10 times my download speed and my download rate is always under 10kbs. The status light is always yellow, im thinking this is because I am using Trend Micro PCcillen because the ports and bittornado are exceptions under my firewall and router. Im not sure how to make it an exception for Trend Micro, maybe ill just turn it off? I have searched for many tips and found nothing new. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Aren't those the default ports, try over 10,000 but not those. And remember, if you have X downloads open at once, they'll all be sharing bandwidth. Some modems need to be forwarded, if you can, connect directly to it and see if that gives you a green light. You can check for it at PortForward too. What ISP, do you see it here: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs

Thanks for the reply, the default ports are actually 10000-60000. How do i forward my modem and connect directly to it? My ISP is Cogeco and it is listed on the link you provided.

would you recomend using limewire instead? it supports torrents now. That would use less bandwidth because of less uploading and maybe speed up my download rate a little because it isnt overloading my connection.

Connecting directly to your modem is only a matter of taking your router out of the loop, you wouldn't need to forward it first. If your modem was the issue, Port Forward might list it but with your ISP on that list, I doubt very much if that would help. You could try FrostWire instead of LimeWire (same developers and interface) or you could try a client that supports Protocol Encryption but I doubt that would help either. Azureus and utorrent support it, BitComet too but it is banned on a few sites.

I have a desktop computer in the house which just connects to the internet through a modem. Do you think if i used it my downloads would be faster?

It's your ISP throttling your downloads, not your modem or router. Connecting through just the modem could be faster (maybe) if the router isn't port forwarded but yours is. You could try downloading at an off peak time like 12:00 AM - 6:00 AM, I'm afraid your only other option is a new ISP that allows downloading.

my ISP currently has a limit of 60GB of bandwidth per month. Since my computer crashed i was doing alot alot of downloading to get my files back, and they already warned me i was using too much before. At the start of the month i was having no problems with downloading Do you think they are just throttling now because i am over my bandwidth limit? Are there any ISPs that are actually popular and bittorrent-friendly?

Exceeding your cap is another issue and won't change things except as you've seen, could also be they don't throttle in your area, what is it, maybe someone knows. Your downloading would affect others available bandwidth on the same line, specially Cable. Check your area yellow pages, newspaper, computer stores, word of mouth, etc. Don't ask any ISP about torrents though, some will deny they throttle and downloading copyrighted files is illegal. You're actually uploading/distributing illegal material. Not 100% but use Peerguardian when downloading, there is a beta that works with Vista or Azureus has SafePeer and utorrent has an ip blocker for Vista. Edit: let me get this straight, you have no problems until you exceed your cap. That well may be the issue then. By the way, if Telus is available to you, they're ok.

PeerGuardian, there have been some problems with it updating lately. Disabling it in the gui, updating, enabling, updating has worked here so far. I was probably editing my post above as you posted, if so, you may have missed it.

one more question, why is my upload so much more than my download rate? It's really annoying, for every 700 mb i download i upload 1400 mb, its really hurting my bandwidth. any suggestions?

Point utorrent to the folder your uncompleted downloads are in and open the same torrent files again. Your stats will start over but you won't lose credit for what you downloaded in BitTornado if on a private site. Uncheck randomize port at options>preferences>connection in utorrent to keep it from changing.

Lots of reasons for greater upload than download, probably more peers than seeds. Cap your upload rate at those times so you achieve a 1-1 ratio.
