sammorris:Don't know on the CPU fan, how do I check it
I know I've got 3 Case fans, 1 front intake, 1 rear exaust, 1 side. I think I read somewhere if U disable the side fan that it will run cooler
The side fan has a long cone all the way to the CPU Fan blowing air in on the CPU

Here's what should be the last word on sigs (and on stupidly sized screenshots also as that's something one or two of our younger regulars do from time to time) - the industry standard for web sites/pages is still 1024x768, even in this day and age of ridiculously high video resolutions.
..so anything that doesn't comply to 1024x768 doesn't comply, period. Not just to this website, but on the net generally..
So to quote a line from one of my favourite films - St. Trinians, "No gouging. No headbutting, no punching. No slapping, spitting. No um... No gouging" ie let's have no more whining about sigs, let's leave it at that (ie that 1024x768 is what you should all be taking heed of).
The thread may now continue..

Side fans should be beneficial, but your results will depend on how the other fans are set up in your case and what size and speed they are.
To check your CPU fan speed (and potentially adjust it) download SpeedFan

Realistically, if you're after a good cheap PSU, my top picks are still the 380W EarthWatts and 450W VX.

rick i'm sorry but can't remember what case you have and you said something about "stock cooling" for the Q9450. Right? Disabling the side fan might help if it's disrupting the flow of the case. ;) the easy way to check is to unplug it. of course power down then unplug. ;) fire the system back up and see how the temps are. ;)
I'm afraid that the "stock cooler" is going to be LESS than adequate for cooling the Q9450. Especially if you have case air flow issues. ;)

greensman: I've got a Xion Hydraulic fromt Max Tower
I thought I'd give the stock cooler a try as it came with the CPU. Go figure who thought INTEL knew what they were doing.
I have a Freezer 7 pro that I originally bought to go on the CPU, but figured Intel to send an adequate cooling fan

I was just going to ask about that! I discovered by setting the TJ max to 100, my temps equal the ones in the Setup, and the thermal probe confirms them and they now agree almost 100% with Everest's readings for the cores! That makes me believe that the E6750 has a TJ Max of 100C, rather than the 95C I've been lead to believe! The core temps are just too close to the Everest readings, not to be believed!
Happy Computering,
Russ
Russ,
I was refering to 45nm cpu's. your E6750 is 65nm and I do believe 100c is the correct TJ Max for that cpu.
another point of interest is that the TJ Max for a Q6600 with GO stepping appears to be 100c while the Q6600 with B3 stepping appears to be 90c.

the stock oem intel fan that comes with the Q9450 is a joke and absolute garbage. it's the smallest and lightest HSF I have ever seen with any retail cpu. I wouldn't use it on my worst enemys pc.
