OK so I forced the NTSC in the settings. All I get then is a green screen when it try's to load the game.

Yeah strife, like I said, some games you just have to get the NTSC version or else it just won't work (on your NTSC wii of course). If you do a google search for 'wii gator compatibility' or something like that you can find a very handy chart of which games work and how (i.e. 'force NTSC works', 1:1, etc...) Also it will tell you which standard is currently working, for some games the PAL version works but the NTSC doesn't and vice versa. It's a very handy guide to look at when deciding which games you'd like to backup.

I kind of figured that would be the case.... lol It's hard to find the NTSC versions of the back ups. I believe that there is a link to that chart a couple of pages back in this thread. Thanks for all the help again. I actualy read an artical yesterday saying that Wii Music was Nintendo's first flop. So I think I may just move onto a different game for my first backup attempt.

Strife, it's not that hard. Google 'wii ntsc iso' and you'll find a great website for NTSC wii games.

great jobs on the guide, very insightful. Have a noob question, i got the thc an the applications to work, however i could not find the HD backup Loader as one of my options on the thc. where is it? thanx....

Thank you for the tutorial but I just cannot seem to get it to work.
I installed the homebrew launcher. installed wiigator 3. installed gamma first but the game would not boot so i installed wiigator.
i am trying to play Spore burned at 2.4x using imageburn.
When I try to launch using gamma it goes to a black screen that i have to unplug my console to get it back to normal.
when i wiigator3 it says launching game for 30 seconds then shofts back to the menu.
yes i put the game through the backup program.
not sure what else to do. have burned the game 3 times already. do not want to do it again.
any suggestions?

Did you install a cIOS? If not you need to so the backup launcher can work.

I wanted to thank you guys so much for all your help. After reading for about 4-5 evenings until late, mostly on afterdawn forums and some from links that you provided, I was able to downgrade from 3.4U and softmod my wii and have successfully played one backup disc. I searched for softmod solutions months ago before it was possible, and haven't looked since. My wife's wii fit disc was scratched when we lent it to a friend, and before I sunk another $90 (because you can't buy the disc alone, except on ebay where it's almost as much as a new wii fit system), I figured I'd search again. Fortunately, I found you guys. Again, thanks for all you have done.

Yes i did install cios. I am also using sony dvd+r discs. oh, and my wii is a 3.1-US if that helps any.
Should I upgrade to 3.2 or is 3.1 okay?

I tried cios installer 0.3 beta again to make sure and it failed.
says download ios36
initializing network ...failed -116
failed to iniate temp buffer for encrypted content. size was xxxxxxx.
i go over to wad manager. press enter.
it comes up with two files for install
cios.wad
wiigator backup launcher v3 beta.dol.wad
i click to install cios.wad and it says it installed ok.
not sure what else to do.

Ok, so I am using WiiGator's version. I put everything in the "Put into SD Card" folder and after deleting the Legend of Zelda, the message I get after inserting the SD card is: "the device inserted in the sd card slot can't be used" What do I do from there?

when i tried to install the homebrew channel everything seemed to go great until i get (what i guess is) this error message reading:
err=c10000003, reply=80000900 00000000 1001008 00000200
Did i do something wrong or did something go awry??
Some hep woul be great, thnx.
EDIT: Nevermind guys i finally got hbc installed and is now working GREAT. I ended up having to format my SD card to FAT32 instead of just FAT. thnx ne way tho guys

ALRIGHT I DID ALL THE STEPS INSTALLED THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL AND GOT THE BACKUP LOADER THAT BRINGS OUT WIIGATOR 0.3 IM STUCK RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I HAVE THE ISO NARUTO SHIPPUDEN GNT EX3PUT IN THE WII BACKUP CREATOR LET IT CREAT A NEW ISO CALLED PARTITION ANDD BURNED PARTITION ON DVD-R AND IT DIDNT WORK. If your using 0.3 WiiGator Gamma you don't need to patch the ISO.
If you still have the original ISO before it was patched then try burning that (1:1 copy).

I need some help, I did the twilight hack to my NTSC Wii (X-mas present), have the IOS249 and used DVD Dump with Wifi to get a copy of Mario Party 8. The file size was correctly 4,699,979,776 bytes.
I launch the gamma backup channel and it reads the disc to start the game launch. screen goes black and it says that it cannot read the disc?
I am using high quality DVD's with 1-16x speed, burned with ImgBurn @ 3x
what am I doing wrong. I want to fix this before tomorrow morning since it is Christmas and my kids will want to play MP8.

I BURNED THE UNPATCHED ISO OF NARUTO GNT EX3 TO A DVD AND WHEN I TRY TO LAUCH THE GAME ON WIIGATOR 0.3 IT SAY THE SAME THING THAT IT SAID ON THE PATCHED ISO "ERROR NO DISK" I DONT KNOW IF I HAVE TO CHANGE ANY OPTIONS IN WIIGATOR BUT IM RUNNING LOW ON DVDS. I NEED HELP I STILL DONT KNOW WHAT IM DOING WRONG I HAVE WIIGATOR AND I BURNING THE GAMES ONTO A DVD BUT THEY JUST WONT LOAD UP. I ALSO TRYED ANOTHER GAME TATSUNOKO VS. CAPCOM COM WAISTED 2 MORE DVDS AND IT STILL DOESNT WORK EVEN IF I PATCH OR NOT. ALSO I DONT KNOW WHAT IS A BURNING A (1:1) COPY IM SORRY IM KIND OF NEW AT THIS . I M new to wii.My wii firmware is 3.3j(mostly before 23 oct) & wiikey 1.9s.
I have read through the forum & post a thread on this but nobody help.I am sure homebrew channel able to play quite a number of game that i having black screen now.But a clarify something before I start.
I could like install the homebrew channel via twlight princess hack.
Need to clarify something cause I dun want to stop my wii from operating as it is for my kids.
I have a burned game(zelda twlight princess usa version) but my wii is japan version.Can I use the (zelda twlight princess usa version) to install the homebrew channel.During the installation,what file to chose for the tp hack.is it the japan or usa .pls help my kids want to play the need for speed game.
By the way ,pls kindly explain to me how to use the homebrew channel.

ok, so i read most of this and got all confused
i don't have my wii yet...
If i but from someone else, i should leave it as something lower than 3.4 firmware right?
also, everything will work as normal and the I just can't update right? can i still go online or not?
and is there a way to update to 3.3 without goin all the way to 3.4 (not sure what firmware it will be at)
and also, why does firmware 3.4 not work?

Over the last couple of weeks, with many hours of reading, I was able to downgrade my wii to 3.2U, install HBC, and softmod. I am able to play backups using wiigator gamma bootloader. Thanks to you guys, I have done what I wanted to do to replace a scratched disc.
Now my question: We got Wonder World Amusement Park for Christmas, and when we put it in (original disc), it asked us to update the wii. Of course, I didn't do that from all I had read here. I decided to try using the gamma bootloader to boot the disc (after all, what could it hurt, if it didn't work, it didn't work). To my surprise, it worked. Is this the right thing to do? I've also read about GeckoOs, and booting through that, but I don't trust my kids to go into the Homebrew channel to do that, but do trust them to boot with gamma loader channel. What's the best thing to do when an original game asks you to update? I've searched the forums, and couldn't find a clear answer to this question (may be there, but I couldn't find it). Thanks in advance for all your help.

I think I had know how to load homebrew channel through the reading for all this days.But I am not sure what apps to load through homebrew channel.I believe there is greokc os,gamma loader, wiigiator loader etc.
Pls kindly advise what to use if I just intend to play the burned game through the homebrew channel.My kids never play online ,gamecube etc...
Will it be ok,if I just load the grecko os after i install the homebrew channel.
By the way my wii firmware is 3.3j & willkey 1.9s.
I just want to have a good shot on it before i start to load all the stuff that need to play burned game.
After all the reading ,I really confuse what to do after HBC install.
Pls kindly advised.
